    I watched this video last night after realising I was having an external *and* internal scan the following day, just wanted to pop on and reassure anyone else who's feeling a little nervous. The whole process lasted about 10 minutes max, the nurses I had were super professional and had clearly carried out this procedure hundreds of times. I'm naturally quite tight and I experienced no pain, the actual part that goes inside you is surprisingly small. I know it's natural to worry but hopefully my experience will help calm your nerves a little. :)
    Thanks for this video, It really helped ease my nerves and you delivered it in such a positive way.

I'm really scared because despite the questions I have asked to my doctor and the clinic, no one seems to take the time to answer any of my questions. I know it's probably very routine for all the staff but I've never had it done before. I wish the staff was going to be as caring as you have shown in your video, it would go a long way in easing the stress of new patients.

    I wish my technician was that sensitive to my comfort. She didn't offer for me to insert it or anything. I was given a thin disposable paper covering that didn't really cover much and she didn't put anything down on the table besides some tissue paper that is used in a GP's office visit. She didn't palpate either. The only thing that was alright was that the room was dimly lit, so I didn't feel as exposed, still a very weird and invasive experience. She didn't talk to me at all during the procedure. I really felt like I was being probed by an alien. I don't think I will ever get a procedure like that done at my GP's office again. But I have to get another one done so I'm going to advocate for myself next time. It's sad that I have to do research on the internet to make the experience less traumatizing when the doctor/technician should be the ones who are sensitive to this.

    I've read that the transvaginal wand is the same thickness as a tampon... That does not look like the same thickness as a tampon. Is this yet another case of downplaying the reality of the situation as they so often do with women's healthcare. Women seem to be constantly betrayed and told oh it won't hurt, take a paracetamol etc specifically when it comes to their intimate regions, this has been proven with the whole fiasco surrounding IUD implant and removals (UK) and pessaries that was recently uncovered and exposed how much women have suffered with no pain relief. Meanwhile men have colonoscopy with sedatives. It seems any ailment a woman has, the first point of entry and exploration is always her v@gina. It's like the medical profession are obsessed with that orifice. They could just give women pelvic MRIs which are more accurate, instead they wanna stick hands and wands inside you, I even question the safety of an ultrasound device that emits high frequencies being inserted into such an intimate area, any other time they don't want you being over exposed to scans! I half expect it I have ear-ache they will need to go through my v@gina to check it out.

      Thank 👏 you. I've had the same "it doesn't hurt" told to me that were lies. Everyone is different. I have mine tomorrow, so we'll see. But even things like speculums. The one's I've had feel like sharp metal and I bled after. Why can't they be silicone tipped or something? With all the things humanity has accomplished and we can't do basic kindness and comforts for women and people with vaginas. Things can hurt and it's important to make sure people are comfortable.

    • @brooke1639
      @brooke1639 Před 2 lety

      @@kristentortellini9137 try not to worry too much. I had a transvaginal scan last week. I'm a virgin but lied because in the UK they don't give them otherwise and I have been very worried so needed the scan. I also lied for a smear in the past too because they also wouldn't give me one of them in the past either. Anyway long story short, as a virgin the smear was 100% more painful. The transvaginal was not uncomfortable at all, it wasn't too large and if I as a virgin didn't squint or feel uncomfortable I'm hoping you will be ok. I think people describing discomfort might be partly because the issues that are being investigated may be irritated by the wand or something.
      They put lube on the wand, then a condom over it then lube over the condom, it's much shorter than I expected and doesn't feel like it goes anywhere near as deep as the smear. If they are checking your bladder they move it around a bit but you don't feel it.
      It gives a much clearer image than the regular external pelvic scan and they found I had a tiny fibroid that wasn't seen, other than that they said it was fine.
      Please don't worry too much, if you do feel discomfort let them know and they will be more gentle. Remember you have autonomy over your body.. Good luck x

I know the techs aren't supposed to day anything, but she asked me "did your doctor ever say anything about PCOS?" And I said that I had heard about it. But when I went back to my gynecologist she said everything looked normal, but I'm going to be honest I'm sceptical with that response. Overall, it was painful and I hurt the rest of the day, but was gone by the next. I've heard that many people don't find it painful, I even asked the tech and she said it shouldn't hurt. I have suffered with heavy periods for years and got referred to have a ultra sound scan. When I had it done. She said she could do an internal examine with a probe. I said I was quite an anxious person and found smear tests quite painful. The nurse and younger girl then laughed at me when I said I wasn't sexually active and never had been. I found the whole experience upsetting and humiliating. Surely I am entitled to have an internal scan to find out what is wrong even though I am not sexually active. @aaliyahpatel2819 Před 3 lety +10

    This is the first video I have found which has stated that the patient actually has a CHOICE to have the transvaginal scan. I have had a blood test showing hormonal irregularities so have been referred for an ultrasound scan in a week of my pelvic floor I think? I have no idea what this entails and so have been trying to research it and found out there’s two parts to the examination! But i am only 17 and a virgin and am very very anxious about getting down there just out for the doctor to see! And so ideally I wouldn’t like to have the second part of the scan done. I know this is in Australia but do you think it’s the same in the uk in terms of consent and stuff- or do both parts of the examination HAVE to be done to look for cysts? Can this be seen with just the abdominal scan? Does this give enough of a picture? Also do you get told of any results during the scan or nothing until results are sent to your doctor? I am really nervous as I’ll be going into the hospital on my own and always have a fear of getting lost! ( I have social anxiety) Also is it common practice to have a female doctor do the scan? Sorry for the bombardment of questions but you guys are super helpful!

    • @256shadesofgrey6
      @256shadesofgrey6  Před 3 lety +3

      Thank you for your message! I think, no matter what country you are in, you have a choice as to what is done to your body. These scans don't need to be scary, or be horrible experiences. They do have medical relevance and can be very helpful for some people. If you are feeling nervous about the whole thing I would suggest writing down any questions or concerns that you have so that when you go in, you have it all there and you don't have to try and remember it! Know that you have every right to refuse a scan and every right to ask questions. You'll find that a lot of people in this field are very understanding if you let them know how you are feeling. Hormonal imbalances occur for many many reasons (stress being a major factor) so there are lots of different avenues to wander down. Take deep slow breaths (through the nose) to help if any anxious feelings arise and just know, you always have a choice. Its your body. With love, Petrina

      Hi Courtney! You may have to discuss this with the technician. When I was scanning, if the lovely patient had been sexually active & was comfortable with having an internal scan then we would go ahead with it. It allows us to view the ovaries better so we can give more info to the doc. However, the decision is entirely yours and whatever YOU are comfortable with. Take care, Petrina :)

I have one of these next month and I’ve been bleeding STREAMS for around 2 months now, I was given medication so it to stop and it hasn’t worked, I’m just so stressed about doing this because every time i go to the toilet it’s like a bloody murder scene so i can’t even imagine what it’s going to look like there, I’ve just turned 20 and never had anything like this before and i don’t know weather to laugh or cry😩

      This sounds very stressful for you. Irregual menstrual bleeding can be very confronting however it is also a sign that something is out of balance. Stress also makes this much worse so perhaps finding someone to talk to about it, or finding ways to calm (meditation breathing, yoga etc) so you can start to listen to your body. It isn't attacking you, it's just pointing out that something is out of balance. I recommend this resource in the meantime www.wombenwellness.com/
      Back to the scan, it can be done while bleeding and it is something that commonly happens. They want to check if there is anything physically happening to cause the bleeding. Again, do your best to take long breaths, rest & listen to your dear body. Take care, Petrina

The internal pelvic ultrasound can sometimes be a little uncomfortable and depending on why the patient is there, it may be a little more than uncomfortable..but just remember that at any time you have the right to decline or end the scan if it hurts (You don't have to do anything you don't want to!). The internal scan gives the sonographer much more detail of the uterus and the ovaries but we are still usually able to get an overall idea of those organs from the external scan. Too invasive and very degrading for a woman. With all of the advances in technology you would think a less humiliating technique would be performed. My Doctor ordered this without discussing what the ultrasound entailed. Guess what? My body, my decision and I have last say.
