Middle NZ Vol 02 F

2. Sincere thanks to a good friend who made these videos around the lower North Island and upper South Island at the beginning of the 21st century.
He wishes to remain anonymous but has made them available to me for editing and upload to CZcams. He began taking New Zealand rail videos with a small point and shoot camera which in those days of unknown frame rate capture which I believe is part of the reason for the somewhat jerky motion.
Nevertheless, the photography is awesome and these few videos are a good record around and during the so called "The Twins" era when the original pair 1199 and 1200......
There are several liveries changes showing with and lots of Dc and Dx action still in the North Island. Also some great shots and sounds of the DQ class working out of Picton, great to hear their EMD drone and distinctive traction and dynamic brake sounds. Also some rare Eo action to come...
I have taken out hundreds of still camera shutter clicks and other extraneous noises. Although it's impossible to remove distorted wind noise which is still a major problem in many video recordings, I have in many clips either lowered the clip sound level and/or blended in newer cleaner sounds from my own archives. It is not perfect but I hope you find it a more pleasant watching and listening experience. Many of course are just as recorded.

Most the second half of this video is following a steam excursion headed by Steam Inc Ja1271 from Paekakariki to Woodville via Te Apiti, with some freight action in the gorge. Then through the Wairarapa to Masterton, re coaled and then back to Paekakariki ......
