This is why I don’t even bother with fast food anymore. It used to be all about being cheap and fast and you’d hope that it also tasted pretty good. Now, it’s not cheap, it’s only fast if you get lucky and competent people are working that day, and it’s really not any better than going to a 7-Eleven and microwaving a burrito
The best chicken sandwich I’ve had recently was from a Circle K gas station in Henderson KY. Bun was soft, spicy chicken filet was juicy, it had pickles and some kind of sticky sweet sauce. I added some mayo. And it was $3.50 which is quite reasonable these days. It was better than the last Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwich I had and half the price.

For $4.95 I can get an empanada from a local South American bakery that's double the size and much better quality and comes with chimichurri . I get it, it's taco bell and it will never hold up to a legit Mexican or Latin American place. But it used to compete on price and convenience. I just don't see the point anymore.
Problem is finding a south American bakery near you. Not everyone has one. 😢😪

They cost 3.89 near me, and I honestly think they taste pretty good. Better than most things they have- I’ve been ordering it with nacho cheese instead of the ranch and honestly enjoy it.

I'm ethnically south American 🇨🇴🇪🇨 & I make my own stuffed for my European husband and friends, especially ever since we moved to the midewest. We have one Venezuelan place & theirs are sadly not good. My Swiss 🇨🇭 father in law says he has not found a place to make empanadas 🥟 as stuffed & yummy as the ones I happily make for everyone. I follow a Cuban dominican girls recipe on CZcams & add a little of my own style to it.

5-10? It's been going downhill a lot longer (though Taco Bell was better in the 2000's than it was in the early 90's and Domino's improved from back in the day). Burger King used to be decent 30+ years ago, Pizza Hut was practically a sit down restaurant, and KFC used to use solely a pressure cooker (no pre-cooking) with I think peanut oil for their chicken, not to mention McDonalds got rid of their beef tallow fries ages ago and used to have a decent Fish Fillet (tastes like fish paper now).
Now that fast food joints have milked the pandemic by gouging prices and lowering size and quality they will never go back. Adios fast food.
And it's not just fast food sadly.
It's not gouging. It's the government printing an extra $6 trillion, which pushed up the prices of everything. Fast food just passed along those big price increases. You can thank Bidenomics.
Fast food was still cheap with good variety in 2019, i still fondly remember the limited run of grandburgers sold at mcdonalds and Arby's loaded curly fries, this stuff only started happening around 2021-22

Basically looks about the size of those fried fruit pies you (used to be able to?) get at gas stations, with apple, cherry, chocolate, etc. filling.

Those fruit pies are still a thing, but only certain gas station brands will have them, since many brands don't have kitchens anymore. You're more likely to find them in the South.
@@Alizudo I live in the South but don't get out much anymore... the pies I had were not store-made, they came in packages from a factory, they were still decent though. Back in 1980s.

The website said 280 calories for the item and 210 for the sauce, so my first thought this must be really small. if the sauce has almost the same calories.
It's kind of scary that all the sauces have 200-220 calories and the sour cream option has 45 calories.
Most sauces are similar. If not in calories, in sodium. Creamy dressing? Terrible!

It's a pizza roll basically. They make buffalo chicken ones now and you can get a whole bag for about the same price. And they are probably better
Looks more like a mini calzone. But I have tried those buffalo chicken pizza rolls and they’re not bad at first but get really meh. Pizza rolls don’t even use real cheese. It’s an imitation mozzarella. Pizza rolls are cheap for a reason.
But It’s really stupid to compare something you get frozen at the store that’s made cheaply in bulk to something you get at a restaurant; where price is also based on convenience to get something already cooked and prepared for the consumer.

Any products like that are not prepared in store they are bought in. I worked for TB back in college and it was the same with the caramel apple empanadas. They were just heated up

@@johnfischer_2 There is a thing called Shrinkflation. It is when a product stays the same price or increases in price but the product itself gives you less. Candy bars are a great example of this. They used be quite large and now have gradually become smaller but more expensive.

Back around 2001, Taco Bell released their chicken/steak quesadillas. It became possibly my favorite fast food item ever and I still order it to this day. It’s a rare fast food item that is very consistent (at least at my Taco Bell), and is great nearly 100% of the time. Never soggy or stale tasting, almost always filled up enough. Anyway, I just hope we can get at least one good item from this new menu that will stick around like the quesadilla.
Same. The quesadilla is one of the few things, along with the chicken ranch chalupa, I can depend on and don't think I've ever had an openly bad one.
@@bryantsteury8910 For sure! Another one I love is the Cheesy Gordita Crunch, but it’s very inconsistent. Issues like enough jalapeño sauce, stale, wilted lettuce, not enough cheese etc are real considerations

I worked at Taco Bell when they first added the quesadillas and we taste tested them at the manager told us to “put a little on it and spread it around to make it look like there’s a lot” I never went back after that
First chrunchwrap supreme I ever had was life changing. Now it's lettuce and tomato then all the beef cheese and sour cream is in the last bite. I just make them at home now
I like how all of these are done in one fluid take. It's impressive.

The one thing I'll give them about the size, is that if you go to their website, you'll see the item cut in half next to the sauce cup. The sauce cup is just like any other you can get from Taco Bell now and in the past. It looks massive right next to the Crispanada. And the sauce packets in the background look big too.
So they did indicate that the item would be small on their website, at least.

That's the Alaskan price. $3.49 here in Ohio. Taco Bell page kept defaulting to Soldotna AK for some reason.

Their biggest mistake was taking away the chicken chipotle melt and replacing it with a flat bread. Most locations won't even let me sub the bread for the taco shell.

Their biggest mistake is a rotating menu, its annoying having to look up the menu to see if they have anything good, and being dissapointed most of the year. I usually dont bother and go to Wendys or Canes cause i know theyll always have a baconator or chicken. Their second biggest mistake was putting some of their menu as “online exclusive”, one of those items being the quesarito, which was by far their best item, if they can make it for online orders they obviously are capable of making it so whats the point?(obviously to lure people to create an account on their site where they probably make ad money off of you and sell your information like everybody else does)

Got one for free yesterday from the Live Mas Live promotion, and I paid too much. Mine wasn't as over cooked as this one was. As small as it was I ate 3/4 of it and trashed it. Used the spicy ranch sauce to bring some flavor to the 3 cheese chicken flat bread that was also free.
Taco Bell needs to step up their game because Del Taco is coming for them.
Haven't eaten Taco Bell in ages.What he was showing us is an empanada..I can buy some from the grocery store in the frozen food section.I make my own tacos, or I go to one of the Manny Mexican places around here.That,s what,s great about living in San Antonio, you have all kinds of choices for Mexican food you don't need Taco Bell.

First of all Del Taco over taco bell any day..anyway my issue with TB is they hype an item and then a week later you cant find it because they cant keep any key ingredients in stock. I still remember their carne asada nachos..boom hard to find a week later and never seen again.
Having worked for TB for 18.5 years they generally force ship and or limit quantities the store can order based on their volume and expected menu mix from when the item was tested.

I had the same experience with size disappointment. I hadn’t even heard about it until it released on the app yesterday and it’s only the size of about 1 1/2 Cinnabon delights.
Can't beat the online only cravings box for $6.
