I love OLED and HDR. Sometimes, I'll be playing a game like say, Ghost of Tsushima, and I'll come through some trees or something and get hit the face with sunlight, and actually squint out of habit, because it looks so much like real sunlight. Soon, we won't even need outside because we'll have better graphics on a screen. LOL. Wait..... we already don't go outside. We're doomed.

@@JGriffin5150 No, it's out of habit because I quickly realize it and stop. It doesn't hurt my eyes or anything. It's just like when driving and you know the sun is about to come through the trees, you squint ahead of time. Same concept.
Also, who said anything about it being as bright as real sunlight? Sorry, but that was a bit of a stupid point. Just saying. Of course it's not as bright as a giant mass of fire that's hot enough and big enough to heat another mass that's light-years away.

I think by this point some where around 50% of the psvr og games should have been worked into psvr 2. Or in some super-smart way to enable the studios to be able to port them to the ps5 as stsr wars squadrons was awesome on psvr and would be nice to have it even just ported to the ps5.

Yeh, we got like 10% so far, not even close. At this point I think Curated back compat would have been better.
Would be similar to how it’s handled with some classic x-box games.
Would still require the majority of studios to patch their games, but would no doubt be quicker and cheaper for most studios to do that than port the game and go back through certification.
Might be a little confusing for the consumer, but would have given us access to a larger library, faster.

Its had 7 VR exclusive releases so far with 1 more supposedly on the way this year.
These are all typically titles with higher than average production values than most VR games with 1 noticeable exception.
I think they have outpaced other platforms for higher production value VR exclusives this year.
GT7, RE8, Horizon, Before Your Eyes, Dark Pictures, Synapse, Firewall Ultra, RE4 R. (yes I know Firewall is a mess).

I had a very similar experience with the PSVR2. I feel I’ve definitely got my money’s worth so far. GT7 also totally sucked me in; I got a wheel set and stand, too. That game is so awesome. Can’t wait for the PS5 Pro so they can release a version of the game that doesn’t need to have reprojection.
Red Matter 2 is the best looking game I’ve played so far on any headset. At least from the standpoint of being crystal clear, which makes the stereoscopic effect much more compelling. I can’t wait until more of the visually complex games can be rendered at the same resolution.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It was a very interesting video.

    • @PsimanUK
      @PsimanUK Před 4 měsíci

@@ebo5388 I only noticed it when I look out the side of the car when overtaking. There was a slight ghosting around the other cars that was a bit distracting. However, turning down the brightness of the headset reduced it. Also, more recent updates to Gran Turismo seem to have improved the image quality in VR, so it’s not such an issue now. Still, I’d like to play the game at a natively rendered 90hz, or even better 120hz, rather than being reprojected from 60hz to 120hz as it currently is. It think a PS5 Pro would give the devs the option of rendering it at a higher resolution. If GT7 was as sharp as Red Matter 2 currently is, it would look amazing.

So, while I was waiting for that to download I decided to hop into the game so I could see the difference between the old resolution and the new one. I cant even describe my shock at how crystal clear it was in comparison when I rebooted the game after the update had installed. It was INSANE. If you're tossing up getting one I definitely recommend it, or just get a Quest 2. I really like the headset. GT7 is incredible and has ruined all other racing games that dont support VR for me now. While there are some other great AAA games (Horizon, RE8, RE4), it was pretty disappointing when Sony didnt announce anything else on the way. There are too many low quality Quest ports with really bland graphics that look like mobile titles or budget titles from 2007. There are some greats like Pavlov, but as much as i enjoy it, im reminded of the wasted opportunities from Sony to do a really good FPS of their own or the lack of interest from EA or Activision to do any kind of Battlefield or CoD VR. RE4 is on the way and ill play that, but if theres no news from Sony next year then this device is going the way of the Vita.

I played GT7, Horizon COTM, Kayak VR, Moss & Tentacular as well as the free demos for the first few weeks then started to build a decent back catalogue of VR2 games.
We've also had quality ports like Red Matter 2, Hubris, Walkabout Golf, Saints & Sinners 1 & 2 and decent exclusives like Synapse & Switchback and more will come.
OK recent releases like Ghostbusters & Foglands have been poorly reviewed but will get better with patches and updates and many more to come like Vertigo 2, Wanderer and don't forget Resi 4 VR mode soon!
Let's not forget these AAA games like Horizon COTM can take a couple of years (at least) to make.

After some months of ownership, I will say I love the hardware and am looking forward to watching it become old and outdated. I love the OLED and HDR combo, as well. What I don't love, is the lackluster game support. So many games need VR implementation but likely never will. I don't necessarily want full VR hand controller and motion gesture controls. I have no idea why they haven't ported REVII or Astro Bot. I wish that Sony would put me in charge of the PSVR2. I'd make that thing the island of misfit franchises. Burnout, Twisted Metal, Killzone, Resistance, Jak and Daxter, Siren, Gravity Rush, Shadow of the Colossus, House of the Dead, Resident Evil Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles, Panzer Dragoon. There's so much you can do with VR that would be hardware sellers, and wouldn't even require a huge budget, but big publishers largely aren't going for it outside Capcom, unfortunately.
That said, Gran Turismo 7 (with a decent racing setup), RE Village, RE4, and Switchback alone have been worth the price of admission. I'm glad that Horizon added that Safari mode too, because that game isn't very fun to play imo, but it's cool to show off to people as a VR demo.

You'd be gaining stereoscopic 3D, life sized characters and environments, and thrown IN their game worlds, but in a 3rd person perspective, 'behind' your character, like on a TV. I'd also love to see Resident Evil 2&3 get VR-ified, Mega man 11(VR Sidescroller anyone) and many more.

Been rocking the VR2. I enjoyed the VR1 experience of it before starting back in 2016. I've enjoyed the VR2, waaaaay better to play of course. Love most games so far with it. Except those with snap movement or snap turns. Horrible!. Some games don't have the settings to change movement play styles. We're In 2023!. There should always be a setting to change movement, always!. I also use the VR2 screen to play a lot of games. Gorgeous!. Recommendations: RE: The Village, Demeo(excellent!), No Man's Sky, GreenHell VR and Vampire Justice*. Hella-fun!.

I thought Horizon Dawn on the PSVR2 was going to be like the non VR games-that it would be an active experience where I'd be moving around a bunch, swinging a spear, dodging huge robot dinosaurs, and shooting arrows and stuff and when I found out it wasn't going to be that AFTER I bought it, that kinda broke my heart.
I've had it since the beginning too and I haven't even played the Horizon VR game because I'm so bummed about it being this dumbed down "introduction to VR and Sony VR2" showpiece. So It's been sitting there on the system unplayed. I've been playing GTR 7 VR this whole time instead and while that experience is incredible, it's not good enough for me to recommend someone dropping the over a thousand dollars on a PS5 and the PSVR2 to get it. No way. ESPECIALLY with the lack of games and experiences.
Disappointed? I hate to say it, but YES. Cyberpunk 2077 in VR. GTA in VR. Innovative creative experiences that push the limits of the hardware and the software as well as the creative possibilities of the medium. That's what I was hoping for and kind of expected from Sony, but what I think we got was...something else.
It's hard to say what happened because I'm sure Sony invested a ton into the PSVR 2, but I can also see how it doesn't make sense to invest what I think it would take to create true nextgen translations of titles like Horizon or Cyberpunk 2077 much less create new titles. It'd be a HUGE risk dumping tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars or, who knows, maybe over a billion dollars into the PSRV2 and it's games with such a small market. I've never ran a multi billion dollar company and I don't know what kind of choices they were facing, but I am disappointed.
I guess it's still not VR's time to shine. Still too much of a tech nerd's funny looking little goggles market. The last thing I'll say is that looking back on the Quest 2 vs. the PSVR2, I'm surprised at how well the Quest holds up. I LOVE The way the Quest is self contained and untethered and one of the most exciting things to me about the medium is its potential to revolutionize fitness. Also, being able to move around in 3D without having worry about a cable is kinda the way it should be. So big wins for the Quest there as well as being designed for activity. The PSVR2 feels fragile and like it's gonna fly off my head or move out of place if I move my head too fast, but I feel like I can practically do gymnastics with the Quest 2 on which is DOPE. I'd love to see multiplayer VR games that involved running, jumping, dodging, shooting, etc. and could be played in large spaces like indoor soccer fields so you could run around and have giant VR bosses that were like 30 feet tall trying to stomp on you or something and you have to run or jump out of the way...
The PSVR2 needs software. It needs games and experiences and maybe even apps. I'd say call to devs to get on it, but devs gotta eat, so I'm not sure what the solution is. Maybe devs can be subsidized by Sony or crowdfunding? New business model maybe? I don't know, but I still have hope and I'm still not selling my PSVR 2.

This is because of the OLEDs. Sometimes no sound, sometimes can’t set the play area, etc. . After spending untold lost hours fixing each glitch I finally had enough and no longer use it. I’m an older tech geek but no longer am challenged by fixing things. At this point, I expect that once it works it should always work unless something actually breaks. In the end, VR is not ready for prime time . What’s the use of having an expensive Italian sports car if it constantly breaks down ?…………ps - can’t even make an expensive VR to work and we’re worried about AI taking over the world ?…really??

I would be beyond impressed if Sony managed to get some good games onto the psvr like the quest, contractors, blades and sorcery, breachers, ghosts of tabor and such, they’re amazing games but just such a lack of selection makes me stay far away from psvr and just stick to my quest, it’s selection is the only thing holding me (and it) back. I got the first psvr and was so disappointed with its game selection

hey. Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord is Sony Pictues Virtual Reality published game.
It`s not exclusive, but you can`t declare thats multiplatfrom is good and at the same time nagging that you don`t have exclusive games. And personally I am not too interested.
We had Synapse, Switchback VR. Not first party, but exclusive nontheless. Foglands is out in a week. PSVR2 first since Sony helped devs with a game. No release date at Steam right now.
Very soon RE4 (that`s what I am waiting for FR).
So its`s all fine. I don`t need VR GOW. Maybe some Uncharted would do (stiil no need) or Ratchat & Clank (now that`s interesing idea) with visual style of the latest game.
VR market is very specific niche. It needs different games. Horizon Call of the Mountatin is a bit bland both in gameplay and it`s childish story shying away from any attempt at drama (main characted is not rough enough, considering his background, attempting to save villain). Guerilla really should invest in some adult writers.

Hmm, only one super quick mention of the (once you've seen it, you can't unsee it) static fuzzy mura filter effect that you can't get rid of when looking at those deep blacks though 🤷
You really shouldn't be doing PSVR2 review videos if you can't be upfront with people and address one of the biggest downsides to the headset. The mura is some of the worst I've ever seen in any VR headset I've ever used. And the sweet spot, like you did mention, is so small it's ridiculous.
Also, you failed to mention that the controllers built in batteries only last about 3 hours before they need charging, if you're lucky. So, if you plan on having a good long VR session on PSVR2, forget it.
Greatest VR headset indeed... it'd need to be wireless first wouldn't it 🙄
