    Bought my PSVR2 two weeks after launch. It was my first experience with VR, so I don't have a frame of reference from other headsets. Still, I've absolutely loved my time with it. So many great and immersive experiences. I bought a steering wheel and steel frame support setup just for Gran Turismo 7, and that's mostly what I use to show it off to friends and family.
    I hope Sony decide to show it more love. It's definitely worth the price for me. Like Sony's consoles, it needs a lot more unit-selling first-party exclusive games. I think that's how they get market share.
    Great video, mate! Always love your content.

    I got PSVR 2 last summer. I own many headsets including quest 3. I love PSVR 2 I actually think its the Headset I enjoy the most. every one complains about not enough games are being released. but I have a queue of games I still have to play. I think it has been a bit of a hated system unnecessarily . the graphic quality, black level , colour vibrance is amazing. most the games are not casual experiences like most quest games are. yes it doesn't have pancake lenses, but the graphics processing power is so much better than quest. PSVR2 had literally one of the best/it’s own great VR game lineups/catalog in a year ever so far, between ports, multi-platform and exclusives. Games don’t have to be the largest scope/budget, the smaller, medium, AA/A games and experiences generally are priced accordingly, and many are stills gems and good in their own way for varying different peoples.

    I think we can have a conversation about disappointment if there are no games in a year, but as of now (the tail end of the first year), the system has had a breakout first year: about 7 VR exclusives, many of which are top-tier experiences. Let's put things into perspective: that's A LOT of exclusives. Period. And it also has some of the best multi-plat versions of games, including PCVR games playable at high quality that aren't accessible to the vast majority of VR gamers due to cost of high-end PC. This would be a lot of exclusives and top-tier games for even a mainline console! And already we have Metro announced and upcoming, and a new Astro reported to be coming.
    How many year-one exclusives would it take to be satisfied? 10 exclusives? 12 exclusives?
    I can't say that 2024 will be a good year, because it's just gotten started. But to look at PSVR2's first year with disappointment is a bit odd given its impressive showing. At the very least it should inspire a wait-and-see, rather than a doom-and-gloom outlook.

    I completely agree with your assessment on the PS VR2. I owned the original PS VR and bought the PS VR2 on release day. I love this for games. I bought a Quest 3 several weeks ago and love this, too, but for different reasons. ("Asgard's Wrath 2" is a cool game on the Quest but I like the AR apps the most.) I think Sony views the PS VR2 as an accessory the the PlayStation 5 and does not promote this headset because it does not financially make sense to do so. What the PS VR2 needs is a general adoption of VR for all platforms. No amount of "AAA" PS VR2 games will get people to commit to a $550 purchase. No amount of ads will do it either.
    For most people, strapping a computer monitor (or full computer) onto one's head is new. I consider this technology to be akin to the adoption of color TV or personal computers.
    When color TV came out in 1953, people slowly adopted it. It was only in 1965 that the major networks aired prime-time shows in color. Half of households owned a color TV by 1972. This is almost twenty years from the start and seven years after networks broadcast in color. Personal computers were for hobbyists in the late seventies. When business apps came out, these turned these into must-need devices. It took twenty years for half of households to own a personal computer. This is the same timeline.
    Early VR for the consumer market started in 1995, but I think the Oculus Rift in 2013 might be a closer start date. Most headsets in the 2015 timeline, so that might be the best start date. I think half will own a VR headset by 2035. If must-have apps hit, it might be as soon as 2030 -- six years off.

      I'm torn. I've had both PSVR2 & Quest 3 since launch, and yet, I just don't have that much desire to go back to my PSVR2 anymore. The terrible tiny sweet spot, cable, bulky front visor/chunky aesthetics, awful discomfort(Thanks to it's flimsy cheap zero padded light shield), onion ring controllers, Numberless IPD dial, no mixed reality, black & white pass through, high persistence blur OLED display(Quest 3 has zero motion blur by compariosn), god rays, mura, glare and weaker clarity make it difficult to back. It feels dated in most ways, with the exception of black levels, colours, controller haptics, adaptive triggers and the higher horse power(Vs Stand alone Q3) of the PS5, and soon to be PS5 Pro Enhanced.
      An ideal scenario for me would be a PSVR2 Revision + a PS5 Pro. But that doesn't exist right now, and most likely never will.
      Quest 3 + a PC(4090) is the best overall combination. RE7 VR & RE Village VR mods exist now on PC. We just need Astro Bot Rescue Mission & the 'shark encounter' from Ocean Descent off PSVR2 Worlds. Drives me batty knowing they've both been left for dead on PSVR1. If they get ported over to PSVR2 with enhancements I'll bite day one!
      As for PSVR2 sales. They'll never budge no matter how many amazing AAA titles land in it's library, because the headset itself is full of blemishes. One just needs to look at the thing and they'll be running for the hills. Bulky front visor, tethered to a cable, rings encapsulating the controllers....Once they get it on they'll soon realize how terrible the sweet spot is, how uncomfortable it is to wear, the god rays seeping off the white text in the home menu, the high persistence motion blur, glare etc. It's a messy headset with too many glaringly obvious issues that most people will not be able to get on board with.
      If Sony doesn't use the Quest 3 as a template, and do a revision, the PSVR2 is done, regardless of how many owners love the thing. I really enjoyed my experience with RE Village, and most of RE4 VR, including Moss Book 2. But most of the other stuff I've played left a sour taste in my mouth. At least we have Metro Awakening coming this year. :P

    • @kevinrush8830
      @kevinrush8830 Před měsícem +1

      @@80sHolic7 I agree, but I still flip between the PSVR2 and the Quest 3. Once adjusted properly, the image on the PSVR2 looks quite good. Yes, there can be some blur, God rays and mura, but this is overcome with the brilliant colors, deep blacks/whites, with haptic feedback in the controllers and headset. The eye tracking also allows for clear graphics when used in a game. Wireless is nice on the Quest 3, but the unit, with a battery, is noticeably heavy. On the PSVR2, the cable isn't too bad to deal with. Once immersed, I find the PSVR2 to be a blast.
      Sony will sell a number of PSVR2 units if they someday allow a cable connection straight to a pc to run Steam games with haptic support. If this does well for Sony, they might someday put out another VR unit, but I doubt it. The PSVR2 is quite good for this generation but it isn't perfect. It has strengths against the Quest 3. I hope that indy developers will continue to put out games for it. Vertigo 2 is a blast.

      @80sHolic7 Před měsícem

      @@kevinrush8830
      Well, the funny thing about Sony's high persistence OLED display, is that you can actually get the persistence very low once you belt back the 'VR Brightness' slider dial down to zero, which is in the VR headset icon pop up menu. That slider controls brightness and motion simultaneously. At zero, the motion clarity gets closer to Quest 3's, but unfortunately you're only left with 65nits of brightness, which makes VR games look lifeless and dim depending on what you're playing. Games that force HDR, like Resident Evil 4 & Village for example on PSVR2, create severe black crushing if you drop the slider dial too low. you have to have it at about 75%-100% to get the proper HDR effect, but motion clarity gets blurry as result. Double edged sword in the end. Q3 imo, finds a better balance of blur-free motion with reasonable brightness that doesn't look dim at all. It's just too bad about it's lighter black levels and less vibrant/rich colours.
      Quest 3 by comparison has near CRT blur free motion at a noticeably brighter 85nits(Compared to PSVR2's 65). And sure, the Q3 maybe be a little heavier, but I'm totally cool with that because it's THAT much more comfortable with an elite strap + Silicon User interface when pressing against your face. PSVR2 kills the bridge of my nose. I'm going to have to look into getting a 3rd party light shield instead off Amazon, because I still want to give the headset a chance. Not ready to give it up entirely just yet, especially if an Astro Bot Rescue Mission port gets announced, or if they magically decide to port over the Shark Encounter from PSVR worlds from PSVR1. ;)
      And i have yet to try Vertigo 2. I was thrown off because it has teleportation based movement instead of analog, and it supposedly has a handful of bugs that still haven't been ironed out compared to the PC version. Oh well, it IS on sale. I think i might just have to give it a shot! :D
      Resident Evil Village & Moss: Book 2 are still the ultimate PSVR2 showpieces imo. RE4 VR Mode, has it's moments for sure, but it's so inconsistent with it's resolution and graphics and the knife parrying in VR felt like a mess.

    The price can definitely throw down new comers from wanting to purchase it giving the price comparison to the PS5. I know that in your last podcast some of you mentioned that you would purchase a $1K Quest, but the issue is that most gamers are cheap and that would definitely not drive sales. In the gaming industry, consoles are usually sold at a lost while the profit is made with the games.

    I absolutely love my PSVR2. I honestly think it's all about expectations. When I stopped hoping for Sony to release games like Uncharted VR (not gonna happen) I started discovering a ton of new IPs created for VR by minor studios.
    I liked Horizon Call of the Mountain, Resident Evil 4 was stellar, GT7 is unbelievable ......Red Matter 2, C-Smash, just started Switchback.....honestly I feel like I experiment a lot more.
    I only need an Astrobot sequel or port and I'll be happy.

    I have to say the PSVR2 has made me a hard core VR gamer. I had the first one but sold it after a month. The last year has been in my opinion phenomenal.
    Just playing RE4, GT7 and Walkabout has given me my moneys worth and a lot more. At the same time I am also a realist and realise there aren't going to be those types of games in VR every month, it's just not realistic to expect that.
    Anyways if you just objectively go through the exclusives as well as the impressive ports, you cannot deny it has been a pretty epic first year of the headset despite the narrative.

    Great video. Had mine since launch. I have read they are working to improve the reprojection quality. I hope this is true as the discomfort I feel in some games really makes me feel queezy. I don’t think I have really made the effort to push my friends to buy it yet. I have told them to wait as the games roadmap isn’t very high profile. That’s the point right? People want to see the Sony titles and sadly there just aren’t many apart from the ones around launch. I am personally glad I got mine and don’t regret it.

    I think it needs the ps5 pro to push more games through at 120hz and we'll see even more then. Bought mine to enhance my sim racing experience in gt7 and it has delivered. If they got that to native 120 that would be incredible. Other games have been a bonus and there has been quite a few to be honest. Again we are a year in and a AAA game takes 3 years min to develop. So I'd like to imagine there is a AAA or 2 that are about 1.5-2 years in now. If the pro comes out end of year they will coincide with that.

    Im so happy with my psvr2. I don't get why ppl think that there are no games to play, I struggle to keep up with all the games that are releasing.
    I have enjoyed pcvr and quest for years, but some times it was hard to find games that had solid gameplay and kept me enjoying it for hours. Most games was fun for an hour or two. Its fine for content creation, but games you could dive deep into was missing.
    Pcvr had some great years back in 2018-2019 with Asgards Wrath, Stormland, Boneworks, Saints and Sinners and ofc Half Life Alyx. But after that quality died slowly.
    With psvr2 we got 4-5 aaa titles and a handful of great indie games in just its first year. And many of them are real games with alot of hours in them. And more will come.

    So I'm definitely wanting to get a new headset for 2024 however I'm really not sure which to get. I'm torn between the PSVR 2 and the Oculus 3. I have the Oculus 2 but I'm not a huge fan of it due to the image quality and I do get motion sickness with some VR titles like Resident Evil 4. I believe I most likely will still get some motion sickness with the PSVR 2 and the Oculus 3 but I'm down to give either one of them a try. I'm mostly interested in how they both compare when connecting them to a PC. I have a strong Laptop with a 4080. I also have a desktop that has a 4090 but I don't have too much room in that space to move around in so I'll most likely be using the VR headset for PC gaming on the laptop 4080. Which of the 2 headsets do you believe would look better in PC VR? I hear the pancake lenses make a big impact but I'd also think that OLED black levels would also make a huge impact as well. I also would assume that the PSVR2 is more comfortable but I'm not sure on it. Since the PSVR2 will be coming to PC later this year do you think it'll beat out the Oculus 3 with a high end laptop connected to it?

    • @GAMERTAGVR
      @GAMERTAGVR  Před 2 měsíci

      The safe bet is the Quest 3. Pancake lenses give you a much wider sweet spot and without the use of eye tracking a higher fidelity image. You’ll also have wireless VR and colour pass through with Mixed Reality and a much bigger library of games.

    • @Liamo051
      @Liamo051 Před měsícem +1

      It depends on what you’re looking for. IMO the best experiences on psvr are some of the best experiences in VR in general… there’s just not tht many of them.
      On the other hand quest has a humongous library of games compared to psvr (or any other vr headset really).
      What I would say is if your really wanting to play the big ps exclusives like horizon, gt7, switchback, synapse and RE games go for the psvr. If your indifferent about those titles and still have many meta titles your just as interested in, go for quest.
      Personally I bought psvr because I’m always on ps and the exclusives library very much interested me. PSVR is also better from a technical standpoint, with features like haptics, headset rumble, and eye tracking, and additionally with no headset charging necessary (granted the tradeoff is that the device is tethered). But overall I must say if I didn’t have a quest 2 already, my decision would have been to pickup quest over psvr simply because there’s a much wider selection of games that tend to be at cheaper prices.
      In your case what I would do before making your decision is look at the psvr2 library and decide how interested you are in playing the ps exclusives compared to the games that are on meta, and also ask yourself if you’re okay with buying a headset that has a very limited library where top games come out a slow rate. The make or break with the headset really is how many games there are already that interest you, because if there isn’t you might be waiting a long time to find something that does

    Can't get enough of this headset. Absolutely mind blowing and I am stacked with games. Can't keep up!
    I don't think it's true they aren't pushing it. They've done a lot to bring quality games to it. They can't be aggressive with marketing cos it's not like standalone where u just advertise the HMD and that's it, they can only sell it to the PS5 owners.
    I think a lot of the issues you mentioned are down to proframmers cos some games have no reprojection or mura. Sony are fighting a losing battle in terms of sales or enticing people who are curious about VR, standalone is the obvious choice for that, but they're the only ones truly bringing triple A To VR outside of mods.
    Reasons I am totally satisfied with PSVR2 and not tempted by standalone -
    * Triple A VR
    * Head haptics
    * Not having to charge my headset every 2 hours of use
    * reliability
    * comfort
    * ease of use
    * eye tracking is insane
    * OLED screen, so nice.
    But yea hopefully devs will more often squeeze rhe best out of it in future. We know what's possible, we know the games that have released under par were due to the devs not the hardware.
    But I'm not blind to its short comings.. main 2 - needs 3D movie support.. and they need to sell spare controllers even if its just via Sony direct.

    So I use mine nearly every say, sometimes for several hours.
    I have to confess that I went all in on GT7, been a Gran Turismo player since the first and I love it, so bought a decent rig, an 8nm DD Pro and upgraded pedals with a load cell brake. So admittedly quite a bit has been spent.
    But it's fantastic. I love it so much, it's my happy place. I play one player content and online racing, and I can't go back to flat. It's just not the same as feeling like you're sat in the car. The interiors are brought to life. The character of the cars shines through in a way that the flat screen just can't match.
    I live in fear of Sony dropping VR, which they might easily do, and when GT8 comes out, there being no VR option. I will mourn that day, and I don't know, it could spell the end of my 27 year relationship with GT, because I don't think I could go back to flat racing.
    I play other games on it too, been loving Ultrawings 2 recently, No Mans Sky I have hundreds of hours in, but for me GT7 is the killer. Genuinely love it.

    PSVR 1&2 is all i use for my gaming needs, there are still a few flat games left in my backlog but i find it hard to return to a tv screen after seven years full of VR. It feels stale, outdated and underwhelming to me. I'm still tied to the PS ecosystem for VR, but it's already hard to keep up with everything i want to play at the moment so that's fine by me. Maybe i'll buy the Quest 3 Lite in the future because i have zero interest in AR/MR and just want access to the VR content on that system too eventually. For now i play GT7, RE7, RE8 and RE4, Alvo, Breachers, Wipeout Omega, Astrobot, Vampire TMJ, Vertigo 2, Saints & Sinners, Galaxy Kart, Synapse, Ultrawings 2, Skyrim VR and whatnot on both PSVR's and i'm having a blast doing so!🔥

    I've have had my PSVR2 for about 4 months an honestly its amazing!!!, as for the library... experience wise its by far the best platform for ports. AAA exclusives have been short in coming along but those that have dropped are top tier. I really dont get why this thing hasn't got the love it deserves !!! Although I do agree Sony has played its part on not selling this to the public as well as they should have. But for my money it still delivers the best VR experience out there!!

      I think it's been terrible for ports. Look at the terrible ports for Green Hell, Project Wingman, Hellsweeper, Vertigo 2, ect...

    I bought PSVR2 in May because I trusted Sony to put out some great games which will be optimized out of the box. So far I am satisfied, I would say the RE4,RE8,GT7,HORIZON are enough reasons to own it if your are a VR enthusiast and dont mind spending money for VR headsets. I had my expectations fairly low with games releases as I am coming from PC VR.

    For me GT7 alone justified the buy. But i'd like more first party AAA games, or even just modes, like a free roaming VR mode for spiderman 2. Oh and Fresnel lenses suck.

      @@martinsimracing1255well they are not they still take years. Making mods for psvr2 is not easy the whole game has to be redesigned and developed. PC is completely different world so stop comparing them. Doing PC mods is sooooo much easier. Don’t you think if it was that easy they would all be doing it for psvr? People have such unrealistic expectations for the headset which is what’s dragging it down

    I play Swordsman, Pavlov, No Man Sky, Gran Tourismo and The Walking Dead. I was gonna try Legendary Tales but after I went back to play Battle Talent on the Quest 3, I never realized how good of a game that already was. I heard Vertigo 2 wasn’t as good as it was on PC so i didn’t get that either but im hoping Ghost of Tabor comes to PSVR2 soon

    Good video, dude - and feelings and thoughts that I think we are all sharing.
    Let's hope Sony lower the price of the PSVR2, and give more people a chance to get into such a good headset, as I think price is the biggest issue.

  • @HelloFellowYoutubers
    @HelloFellowYoutubers Před měsícem +1

    It’s a niche luxury item but if you can afford it and like to play good VR games occasionally then it’s a great option because it’s implemented so well and by far the most comfortable. I compared it and the Quest 3 for a month and kept the PSVR2 despite its limitations.
    That said, the lack of backwards compatibility was unfortunate and the lack of 3D movies and marketing is baffling. The price is fair but clearly not right for the market, which is all that matters.

    I bought my psvr2 and ps5 about 6 months ago purely for Gran Turismo 7 in VR, ive always had playstation consoles but they have usually taken a back seat coz im an Xbox man really but, whenever im playing racing games its always gt7 in vr. I also have Pavlov and Sierra squad that i play here and there, im not into pc at all never have been so psvr2 is perfect for me, totally worth the money imo and the pulse 3d headset works very well but is not the best build quality

    I got psvr2 at launch because I had played half life Alyx back in 2020 at a friends place and then tried meta quest 2 a year or so after that. I didn’t have any headset of my own and knew psvr2 was on the way so I purposely held off buying a quest because I already had RE village which was a day 1 release with psvr2. RE village is as much fun to play as half life Alyx but it’s also only slightly less immersive due to some cutscenes playing in flat screen while playing.

    I’m glad to see so many people enjoying PSVR2. The more people into VR the better.
    I started with PSVR1 and enjoyed it for a few years but the idea of going back to a wired headset is as unappealing as going back to a corded wall phone. It seems like ancient technology now.
    To those confused by people complaining that PSVR2 doesn’t have a lot of games, it’s more accurate to say it doesn’t have a lot of games that people who own headsets not made by Sony haven’t already played.

    PSVR1? *Yes!*
    PSVR2? Tragically, no. I'm gutted by how different the PSVR2 experience is, notably the library (see 1:50 for an incredibly brief example set).
    It's been a gut-wrenching experience in spite of how much I love it & use it, such as a Gran Turismo 7 racing league (even though *Gran Turismo 7's VR mode still uses the same custom offline-only UI made for GT Sport in spite of how vital the missing data is in online multiplayer), but *because* of the PSVR1 raising my hopes high enough to be compelled to buy the PSVR2 at launch. 💔

    I had a PSVR1 and was not a fan of the graphics. Super cool and fun to play, but as an audio video guy the resolution was pretty bad. Is the PSVR2 an increase in resolution?

    • @ArturKwaszyn
      @ArturKwaszyn Před 2 měsíci

      Oh yes, definitely. It has a dual panel with up to 4k resolution. Actual resolution depends on the game, but plenty are super sharp, like Synapse, GT7 or Pavlov.

    I am a PSVR 2 owner, and here's my point of view:
    Why I bought it - When PSVR 2 was announced I've decided to buy a PS5 console and subsequently PSVR 2. That's because it's specs sounded awesome, eye-tracking, Sony was a gaming company yada yada yada. I love games and play a lot of them, so for me spend extra money for gaming hardware is totally reasonable. And I thought it will be similar to PSVR 1 in terms of exclusives and console-like life cycle, like 7 years before PSVR 3. Also when I bought it I was a Q2 user and in love with VR. Right from the start I knew that it will not be a substitute for Q2, it will be a different beast, exclusives, sitted gameplay, good haptics and oled screen. And Q2 is more of fitness and social games, and PCVR also.
    Do I regret it now? I'm now owning it for 10 month, and have played it only for about 30 hours. It's pretty small amount. Yet I don't regret it. I can play it once a week. It has some highs and lows as a device and as a platform. I think all knew what they are. For me exclusives are great. Also some games that utilizing eye-tracking or oled screens are awesome too. I'm kinda slow and chill with it because I think games are too expensive, and I'm waiting for bigger price cut off in sales. For me it's always a thrill using PSVR 2. And for my friends too, they prefer it more than Q3!
    Though I will never advice someone who wants to start in VR to buy PSVR 2. There's better options...
    Ah by the way, I don't feel that Sony abandoned PSVR 2, I wasn't giving their support too much of high hopes. I think we get a bunch, and we always have plenty of multiplatform games to play. The only bad surprise was blurriness and optimisation problems for a lot of titles...

    I got one on launch day, I've had the best and worst of times with it in terms of quality of games. The headset is quality and the controllers are amazing apart from the grip button. I'm still holding out hope for more amazing games with the same level of quality as legendary tales.

      @gogreengameon2146 Both resident evil games were really good but the reprojection really makes the visuals suffer. I've played through both games multiple times but that's because the game is good, not particularly because they look the best. Which is not to say they look terrible.
