  • At Baselworld earlier this year, Rolex finally put us out of our misery by releasing a stainless steel version of the ceramic red and blue GMT-Master II, a colour combination previously only available on the white gold 116719BLRO for a rather expensive £25,600. But now that flagship model has been watered down into a stainless steel watch for the masses, how will Rolex differentiate the most expensive GMT-Masters from the rest?

    It took me almost 2 years before I got to see this model in real life. And I am absolutely smitten! These are exactly my colors, and when I had this watch on my wrist I knew almost instantly that it would become the mainstay of my watch collection. I have not seen a brand that does two tone better than Rolex. The amount of gold used in the two tone is not by any means skimpy, and I would say generous. For the price, I believe that the watch holds tremendous value. And, again, the combination of the black, brown and Everose are so unprecedented and work so beautifully together. I have put myself on a wait list and, at age 71, I do hope that I get at least a few years to enjoy this watch! :)

    The more I look at it and think about it the more I realize how cool this watch is. It can be a tool watch, a daily beater, but that rose gold and the CHNR toned down bezel colors makes this an exceptional dress watch also!
    Well done Rolex, well done 👏🏻

    Quirky is an accurate description. I am GMT wearer since 1990. On my 4th version currently the Batman but I would LOVE to see a bluesy two tone GMT. Would likely kill two tone Submariner sales but the Sub is quite boring compared to a GMT. The GMT, which Rolex themselves calls the Cosmopolitan Watch, is the new leader in competition with the Sub. This new rootbeer version has me thinking twice about buying one. I'm old enough to wear a two tone I'm just not crazy about the color scheme. Looks like copper and earth tone (mud) brown. BUT, it is a Rolex. So one wears it MORE for the name recognition than the actual color combination.

    The everose is stunning to see in person. It blows away the other precious metals in depth and hue. Its a richer look IMO. I also thing the TT version of the CHNR 126711 has more "pop" as it contrast the everose giving it a bit sportier look than the solid everose that is more sedate in its hues. The new Pepsi got all the press at its lower price point but its not even close of a visual impact as stepping up the ladder to the CHNR in Everose. My guess is Rolex feels the CHNR didn't need to be hyped up.

    This to me is the best GMT. I never found the pepsi to be my thing (though the crowds make it addicting because of all the hype) but this one and the steel and rose gold just look amazing. I call them chocolate and caramel. They look so elegant to me that I do not even see them as sports watches. This color combo is just perfect. Wish the Datejust had such a warm combo.

    The most popular version of GMT II (over last 3 decades) was always the red / black bezel on stainless steel. I can't understand why Rolex omitted that particular colour combination from their collection. As far as brown bezel and brown dial version of GMT II .. as well as blue bezel and blue dial, were concerned? They were available as bi-colour and solid gold versions, way back in 2000. I bought my brown bezel bi-colour GMT II at London Canary Wharf, back in 2002 (at the time r.r.p. was £4100.00)

    • @ZCT808
      @ZCT808 Před 6 lety

      I'll save you the time Martin. Seiko watches are for losers, and they are not even chronometer rated, and per their website need servicing every 3 years. Fuck them. The Omega Planet Ocean used to be pretty amazing right around version 3-4 of their original 2500 movement. Sadly the new 8500 version sucked balls, being both too bulky and uncomfortable. The 316L steel is pretty soft and is a total scratch magnet. These days if you buy one it will depreciate by 30-50% below MSRP within weeks, and keep falling from there.
      Conversely you can buy a Submariner, and in 5, 10 even 15 years, sell it on for about what you paid for it, or simply keep it forever. Plus unlike Omega they promise a COSC beating -2/+2 which is pretty amazing for a mechanical watch.
      If you can find a late model 2500 Planet Ocean in good condition for a good price, it is a very nice watch, and a fraction of the price of a Sub. But honestly, if you can afford it the Submariner is really the best of its kind, a total classic piece.
