  • Being the best known and most popular luxury watch brand in the world, Rolex watches have little trouble selling themselves. Many, many people are quite happy to buy one just because it says ‘Rolex’ on it, paying little mind to what that name really stands for. Well, before you buy a Rolex, here are three things you should know.
    Featured Watches:
    Rolex Submariner 5508
    Rolex Submariner 14060
    Rolex Submariner 114060

I purchased my Rolex Submariner back in 1983 or 84... I loved the stainless steel look and the durability of the watch. I was getting into underwater welding and all the guys that dove wore them. And James Bond wore one (back then it was a big deal because it wasn't an Omega). So I cut grass for $10 a yard and saved all the money from odd jobs and in about two years I brought my pickle jar full of paper and coins to Hausmann Jewelers and purchased my watch. My constant companion.

I thought I knew quite a lot about Rolex but this video has taught me so much I didn’t know.
Strangely I like the company much more now.
It’s English origins and the passion of the founder make it a much more human story somehow.

The owner was German. The case maker was English, the movement Swiss.

You should have a Leica camera in the video instead of the Japanese one. Otherwise fascinating story well told. I learned a lot.

EXPENSIVE TO CLEAN! LATER MODELS DON'T NEED TO BE CLEANED AS OFTEN AND THE NEW ONE WILL LOSE TIME. I HAVE ABOUT 6 AND MY FAVORITES ARE MY TWO TONE "BUBBLE BACK" (ROSE GOLD BEZEL AND STAINLESS WITH A LEATHER BAND) FROM THE 40's STLL PERPETUAL AND SELF WINDING, THE OTHER ONE IS A TWO TONE 18k BEZEL SCARLET AND JUBILEE BAND IN 18k TWO TONE GMT WITH A SCARLET BOTH KEEP TIME IMPECCABLY. THE BEST WATCH IS PATEK PHILLIPE CALATRAVA, IT IS TRULY A DRESS WATCH IN SOLID 18k.

Rolex sounds like Apple. Come out with something already invented. Make it prettier and lead everyone to believe it was your brainchild.

This exact point was made in the video. It's not about coming up with the idea yourself, it's about making this idea applicable and useful to the people who would use the product, in an effortless way.

How about. What constitutes a perfectly designed date window? Why some of the best most expensive watch brands put very little thought on that? or why bother with it at all?
