- Baselworld 2019 was an interesting event for a number of reasons, and not all them good. The big headline was the retraction of the Swatch Group, which left a lot of empty space in the display halls, followed by the disappointment in Rolex’s meagre turnout, with no big, exciting announcements made. Funny thing is that in amongst all the hubbub, Rolex quietly added a watch to its website that is unlike anything anyone ever expected-and that’s the watch we’ve got here today.

This is a common problem of Rolex's modern GMT masters. I can't remember how many times I have seen that 😅

Yeah that was unexpected for such a reputable watchmaker. An exorbitant watch such as GMT Master II shouldn’t have these kinda imperfections. Disappointing. I bet GS would’ve avoided this kinda imperfection.

It doesn't matter if it's the first watch in the series, their quality is obviously down from how it was years and years ago. Not worth buying this brand now.

Regarding the bloodbath on the GMT hand. I get the feeling Rolex QC couldn't give a toss about their product. Hans Wilsdorf will be turning in his grave. Rolex, take note this is unacceptable!

In reality, it looks like a linen dial.
Almost amazing, till you see the q.c. errors (noted by many observers here) and consider the widespread availability of low price watches that have a meteorite dial. Just saw a discounted Invicta Pro Diver with a meteorite dial on sale for $264.98..... Disappointing and I like Rolex.

Quality control issues: a black spot at the 8 o'clock marker and several red spots spilled at the base of the GMT hand triangle. Unacceptable for a Rolex!!

Getting a precious metal Rolex at retail is easy.. they are almost begging you to buy them at most ADS. It’s the dial in this case that makes the difference.

Maybe "No One Expected This From Rolex" was a reference to the sh!t-for-paint job on the GMT hand at 4:49. But no... I think people have actually come to expect that, as we've seen it so often. But at $40K? [tear drop rolls down cheek].

This was clearly Rolex testing the waters, thats why they didn't say anything about it. Just a test to see how ppl react to it. If it works great, they'll do it again. If not, they kill it off and more than likely pass the design off to Tudor at a more affordable price and win still.
Rolex should look into their quality control, perhaps learn a thing or two from Grand Seiko

Very interesting and well executed video. I have a meteorite dial microbrand diver on order and was pleasantly surprised to see rolex showcase the dial and was also surprised by the information you provided on the particular meteorite used. Great video.

lollipop YUMMY I got one and it does not have that imperfection. Rolex quality control is amongst the best and this imperfection makes this watch a keeper.... and is not 44k is 38k.

I really like the etched meteorite face, but it doesn't work with the red and blue outer dial in my opinion. If it was white and black/grey, it would look like the surface of a meteorite in and out of sunlight. Forgive me if im making a huge mistake and insulting the Great Rolex.
I don't agree that it doesn't work. That said, it would be cool if they had gone with say an all black ceramic, like the old LN. It could be argued that the colors detract from the beauty of the meteorite. All that said, at $40K and a waiting list as long as that meteorite took to form, I don't think it's anything I need to be too worried about.

Your attention to the details, camera and light work altogether makes a video always very pleasing, one of the industry best. Well Mitiriorite must have a quantity barricade but again Rolex may focus on making porcelain dial same way following Seiko. This material is also so soothing. Rolex will make lot of improvements I am sure.

This isn't the first time I've seen QC issues from high end companies on this channel. Patek had some bad bubbles on the print on their dial in an earlier video.

It is a nice mix of casual and flashy. I wouldn't expect it on a diver so I can understand why they have done it on a traveling watch. Because If you travel allot it is more likely to be seen and noticed by other watch enthusiasts.

I thought that too! This particular piece looks like it has a few quality control issues. You'd be gutted if you waited a few years on a list, forked out a heap of cash and THAT was what you ended up with!
You guys do realize that's its pretty much impossible to see any of that with the naked eye, no matter how close you look...right? You could find this stuff on literally any watch? But hey, gotta keep up with the "grr i hate rolex" for the likes i guess lol
