Small typo in the title..... VW Arteon..... Just saying 😜
They haven't uploaded the video on the McLaren Arteon yet
Vw Artura...? I'm like haven't heard about that one before but it looks suspiciously like the Arteon.
I think they confused it between the McLaren Artura
I thought it's the name of the car in the UK 🤪
Someone cocked that up!
I prefer the Peugeot driving position over most of the car I drove.
I never sat in it, but from here, I like the look of the Peugeot 508.
I own one so I’m biased, but it’s more comfortable than they give it credit for. Steering wheel has to be lowered so you can see over it, but some drivers are too used to having an elevated steering wheel position in order to see through it. They are right right about the noise though, it just doesn’t have enough sound isolation so it doesn’t feel so relaxing at high speeds, but once the sound system is playing something you soon forget about it!
I drove one and the way its masking a speed is ridiculous. Even in 180km/h on highway you feel like cruising 120km/h. Anyway good car except rear parking camera (its horribly bad).
As a owner of a Peugeot with the small steering wheel it’s not a issue, you can easily get comfortable with the small wheel and when you come to a country road the small wheel makes it feel like a go kart
You're buying an practical estate not a sports car. I like the inperior of the Peugeot apart from the cluster. Feels too futuristic
Peugeot is fantastic. Love mine. I spent exactly 0 minutes struggling with the steering wheel when I first drove mine. Not sure how/why those who drive for a living find it so difficult....perhaps they just prefer convention - i.e German is best etc etc
I guess that some people still want everything to be exactly where you expect. And don’t get me wrong, I’ve driven a new 308 for a week and you get used to it so easy. I’ve also tried both the 2008 and the 3008 and to me, driving position is just perfect.
Great review keep them coming 👍🏻🏴
Keep vids like this one coming love the show
WTF is a VW Artura?
Please forgive the intern.
I think they meant Volkswagen Arteon.
😂
Never heard of the Mclaren inspired VW Atura? Very rare car. Some say almost non existence.
I come hear to see reviews of cars I will never get to drive, living in the States. Oh, and for the banter, which is always entertaining. Love this Channel!
Brutaly set against Peugeot 508. This car is really comfy and quiet. When you wanna to hate something, you will see all in black colours. And thats the case of this review. I-cocpit takes some time to be adjusted properly. than it is absolutely ok. How they can say, that louder Arteon, which was based on measurement, was more refine. Why they are meausure it then...I have experience in Passat, Arteon and Superb and 508 is most comfy of them. 508 have really good seats. This review is really unprofesional...
and sorry....to compare Octavia with 508 in terms of interior quality....thats bullshit...
The problem with the 508 is backseat space, the styling comes at a cost
@@joaocorreia8106 508 in estate have more space in the back than octavia and 3er. I know it for surey bexaude i drive them...
@@jporizka probably but not better than Passat or Skoda Superb.
@@joaocorreia8106 peugeot has a lot of room in the cabin, with sedans the roof line is limiting for some people (I'm 182cm and I sit ok there, although someone above 185cm might have problems), with station wagons it's not a problem. The first reason why the cabin is spacious is the very good wheelbase.
It’s really stupid to remove cars from the testing, but it is fifth gear after all…. Complete bunch of muppets
4:43 "Alen and Tara"... yep, that now stuck forever :D
Commits to measuring the cars based on 3 tests... eliminates the Peugeot based on arbitrary reasoning. Sounds legit
Against the 330e should be taken the 508 hybrid sport engineered
Same for the Octavia. Surely it should have been the VRS? But it isn't hybrid I guess
Very interesting great video guys
Had no idea McLaren made a German estate car. Gosh!
Well i don't see anywhere McLaren Artura.
I haven't been in the new 508 but last gen 2008 3008 308 all I've no problem the i-cockpit design
I'd take the Peugeot
Where can I see part two etc???
Have the 3008 with similar steering setup. Not put off sales as just produced the 1 million car last sept
508 is an excellent all rounder for me...
Hate it all you like
Where is part 2 of this shootout!
I tried to Google it nothing came out!
I’ll stick with my v60 t6. Beautiful and fast although the zf gearbox in the bmw is far superior to the volvo
I wish we could get these in our market!
Thought the U.K. had a different name for the Arteon but apparently it’s just a typo :)
as a peugeot 508 owner, I would say that this around the steering wheel is nonsense, the position behind the wheel is great, I love that little steering wheel, and none of the journalists who criticize such an instrument panel say how good it is to have all the information so high and always keep your eyes on the road. ..
Hello i would like a review with simple self charging estates, is there one ? .... i don't have a good infrastructure in my zone that's why i'm not seeking one out.
It's the location of the techometer that let the 508 down for me
Isn’t the VW called Arteon?
Yep
I love this show 😍
I wish we had more wagon options in the US market. The lone Volvo is just a little too upmarket.
best of two worlds or worst of each? once the battery is gone, the fuel consumption is much higher than the equivalent petrol engine...which means that for long runs it's not a big deal. They cost much more, the boot is smaller...Well, I'm not convinced
To me the Peugeot is by far the best looking of the 4 cars. I’ve tried some of the new Peugeots and I love the driving position, and I’m a bit tall.
Vicky is a ray of sunshine as usual.
Filthy
Part 2?
Don't know if I'm either just mashed or immature, but these inuendos are madness lol
She loves it little filthbucket
Where’s part 2.
Great cars
I’ve missed something in this review: what about performance as soon as the battery runs out and/or you’re using the ice to charge the battery, then you’ve got a different winner. These are not cars you use just for short distances, they should be able to replace a nice diesel powered version of the cars, so what about these plug ins when driving distances are not 30 km but 300 km?
It depends, i mean, they work as a normal hybrid once they run out of battery, so you won't be getting full power at all times, but it does deliver ir in shorter accelerations. Either way, at least the vw, skoda and bmw can do very well without any battery (120km/h-->6L aprox). I don't know about the Peugeot, i would try to avoid anything french as much as possible.
The performance doens't really run out when the battery is empty
For those who didn’t see part 2 on the track the Skoda beat the bmw….. honesty
Why does everyone assume it’s cheap to run an electric car….30p per kw now and about 2 miles per kw is not the bargain it used to be….I’ve got a Mercedes’ GLE 350 de hybrid and it does 1.5 miles per kw so 20p per mile…..diesel costs about 12p per mile for me currently so I’m tempted to run it on fossil fuel which is madness!
2 miles per kW? More like 3.5 for me. Charge overnight at 5p per kW and supplement with solar. Use some free chargers at supermarkets. So overall less than 1p per mile.
@@cblack772002 seems like a lot of effort to me…good luck!
@@ianbrown1255 effort ? That single plug is a real first world struggle. Can't imagine standing at a fuel pump with plastic gloves on so I don't get diesel on my hands. No that seems like a lot of effort.
@@cblack772002 We all know that this is just an interim step anyway and it’s primarily for those that want cheap running costs and don’t want to pay road tax, fuel duty, benefit in kind tax at only 1% under the pretense of going green…. What a ridiculous situation when I can buy an electric car through my company and avoid most taxes normally associated with running a car by being subsidised by other road users.… anyway got to go and order my Porsche turbo Taycan….. as they say if you can’t beat them join them!
@@ianbrown1255 agree with you here mostly. If by interim you mean hydrogen then its a non starter. Energy wise its a huge waste of resources something like 100kw of energy to get 40 out the other end. I benefited from all the subsidies at peak and I'm really not the end of the market that needs supported. VED can't remain at zero. I dont think the environment benefit is false though. Especially with home solar accounting for 2k miles last year.
What on Earth is that jumper Plato is wearing?!
Anyone else think splitting the videos in multiple parts is boring.
Given the hike in energy prices, electric cars are no that cheap.
peugeot 508 all day long ❤👍😁
Quite often the BMW showed 67db but they called it at 69db? Mmmmm……….🤨
Everyone left the competition
Um ok great start, where’s the rest?
And then there is that jumper.
A German car feels more refined than a French one. What a surprise lol!
Skoda baby!
30 miles is just not enough. The Prius was giving 30 miles 20 years ago. You get the feeling that the manufacturers do the bare minimum to tick a box and be competitive with their rivals.
There all the same car apart from the Peugeot the skoda vw and the BMW are made in the same factory
I think your test is somewhat flawed! I think you should have scored them points and then totalled then all at the end. Had you tested boot space first then different cars would be eliminated. The 508 was eliminated based on “you” guys not getting on with the i-cockpit, but loads of people do, so it’s a preference thing perhaps.
This is not “squid games” 😂
Well the Volkswagen technically falls out here since it’s a shooting brake…
I think a Passat or Golf Variant would be a better choice for this comparison in my opinion.
What's the difference between an estate and a shooting brake?
@@binov9 Traditionally, an estate is based on a 4 door car while a shooting brake is based on a 2 door car (just like the terms sedan and coupe, respectively). Now, the terms coupe and shooting brake have been stretched to refer to cars with 4 doors that have dramatically sloped rooflines. (Think BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe or Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake). I don't agree with the commenter's suggestion that this small technical difference should disqualify the Arteon, though.
@@hammycow26 thanks! Great explanation. With recent cars have both their 2 door and 4 door versions (not much of difference between them) like 3 series and 4 series, it fades the ‘actual’ term of estate and shooting brake then?
@@binov9 Exactly, it's all just marketing. The manufacturers will call these cars whatever they want (regardless of technical definitions) if they believe it will get them more sales. If they want to target traditional buyers, they go for boxier, wagon-like styling and call it an estate; if they want a sporty car aimed at young people, they go for sleek styling and call it a shooting brake. Whether a car is more of an estate or shooting brake is usually very subjective (the only car recently made that fits the true definition of a shooting brake is the Ferrari FF and its updated variant, the GT4C Lusso). I just wish that here in the States we had the opportunity to buy anything called a wagon or shooting brake.
Bmw was 67 db, you cant say around 69 when it was 67, one thing about fifgt gear was they were never fair and whole team has a lack of knowlege about cars, you cant have a favorite brand and because of that hate every other brand, we know she hates bmw
Would have been more quieter with sunroof shade closed.
I’d take the Peugeot, I’ve never found the steering wheel an issue in them.
funny looking mclaren that vw....
Maybe it is a VW Arteon, not an McLaren Artura? :D
What's a VW "artura"? Mentioned in the title......
Actually, that's a McLaren Arteon.
Vw arteon!
Hmm Arteon is bigger than all of them there
I’d have the BMW 330e.
I "like" Fake Airscoops 🤮.
It wasn't enough those fake airscoops from front bumpers on M pack... Now they make bigger Grilles, but they are Fake. Plastic with stripes, and no air vents.
Whoever proof-reads your video titles needs shot. 2nd video lately that has got a vehicle name wrong. One was the electric VW T6.1 labeled as a Vivaro
Artura? Lol, amateurs.
For the interior the 508 would have been my 1st choice. The others 3 look so boring.
wow what an awfull shirt on that guy
When you dismiss a whopping 2db in noise difference (which is a lot more than people think) with a "but I think the car I personally prefer *feels* quieter", you might as well skip objective noise measurements alltogether 😄
Thumbs down for that level of BS.
Not a big fan of Phev there abit of a con but I would pick the BMW any day and definitely not VW or Skoda as there having a great time recalling over 110,000 of all there PHEV due to Fire Risks even the new T7 Multivan is affected . Thats VAG Build Quality for you 🤣
Get a life. Car makers recall cars all the time. VAG build quality is a benchmark for most, the head of Stellantis admitted that recently.
@@Olliebobalong Well I work on cars for a living and so far this year about 60% of our work load are VAG cars with and average age of 5 years old with not to many miles on them needing expensive parts such as Audi A1 1.4Tsi Needing a DSG gear box at 46k costing £3000 no.2 a 2017 Golf 1.0Tsi new Turbo at 31k costing £700 the best one a 2017 Golf R came in needing its 2nd replacement Clutch pack with 48k costing £1200 plus the owner got quoted for 2 new front Rims 4 months out of warranty to Brake Dust Damaging the Lacquer on them £1600 🤣 and you call that the benchmark of quality you absolute joker .
@@ben3291 yeh I don’t care. Abut 60% of the cars on the road are built by VAG. You work on cars for a living, you just said. Don’t be surprised if the most common cars on the roads are the ones you see the most. Doesn’t stop people from buying them does it.
@@Olliebobalong because people think there getting a quality product when the dealer talks a load of BS but in fact your getting a badly built German Car made with the lowest rent parts . And you know the recall I just mentioned you know what it's for them using low quality batteries with not enough insulation to cope with constant charging which can blow a fuse which also cannot handle the Voltage which can cause electric shock or fire . Your just delusional and you thinking 60% of my work load on VAG is because 60% of cars sold are VAG so that means with your logic I fix all 60% of them making them great cars in your mind 🤣 your such a fool.
Let me also add here in the UK the best selling car is the Ford Fiesta I've owned one in the past and it was faultless I see a few in the shop but only for servicing or MOTs and if any do come in for Repair work like with other mainstream cars they are usually over 7-8 years old usually for common Parts and costing Roughly £300-£500 to fix not 4-5 years old with most German Cars Especially VAG cars.
ALACANTARA......ALANANTARA😂
McLaren Arteon
Very personal takes here, not objective at all.
It just proves; just because a car's expensive (BMW) doesn't mean it's any better than than a cheaper model. Skoda was just as quiet and had better range; and was no less well built. I have the non-EV petrol version and it's the best car I've ever owned by a country mile even over my last car (a Mondeo Ghia).
VW Artura? 🤭
69 comment then? 👀👆
If you want to get from place to place comfortably, reliably and economically, buy the Skoda. If you want to be seen, buy the BMW. The other two don't quite hit the spot and I agree about the awful Peugeot steering wheel. The VW is fine, but its just a Skoda in drag for a lot more money.
I wish we had more wagon options in the US market. The lone Volvo is just a little too upmarket.
