    Wow! That's quite a project and i think you're right, save it for the spring and it will also give you time to think about it. Cheers from Eastern Canada! 🇨🇦

      Thanks. Right now everything outside is frozen and im not found of crawling underneath anything in the snow and later having horrible nerve pain. Most of the work is just me not listening to common sense 3 years ago. Should have taken the heads off back than and we would have less work. Oh well you can't foresee everything. Maybe it's a good thing cause all the bad stuff from the previous owners can be sorted out once and for all.

    I will definitely be following this series. My father also worked on GAZ 53B for a while. If memory serves, about three engines were replaced. For one, the piston blew a hole in the block. Another had its flywheel broken while unloading cargo. One of the fragments of the clutch box punched a hole in the engine cover.

    • @SuperMAZ007
      @SuperMAZ007  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Do you know if these where factory engines or rebuild ones? I have heard all sorts of stories how the engine did self destruct over time. The GAZ 51 engine is even easier to blow if handled incorrectly.

      @@SuperMAZ007 The dump truck on which the Father was driving in the documents was GAZ 53B. I don't remember the exact year on the plate. But it has probably already undergone at least one major overhaul. The cabin had a smooth roof, but the front grille was already new, white. Also, the sides of the cargo box were from SAZ3507. Therefore, I can't say whether the engine whose piston broke was original or not. The engine whose flywheel broke was from a GAZ53A. The last one installed was from a GAZ53 fuel tanker. What happened next is unknown. Father changed his job, and the car itself was also sold elsewhere.

    I like how the truck is also a shed for storing lawn mowers 😂 Interesting channel and content, Ants Pants sent me here. Tnx Mr. Sild

      That happens to every vehicle eventually it becomes a shed or storage place of other junk. Thanks for watching :)

      No Ants u have to fix the kirovets first before taking on new projects😁

      Duno If that is a great idea now but I feel I should have gotten a ZIL truck instead. But than again sometimes you got to work with what you have.

    Thats an interesting v8 like you said y-block clone

    Thanks for the video Steve. That engine reminds me very much of the Chevrolet V8 engines. It really doesn't look that bad inside. If you get the oil pump figured out, basic tune up and some new head gaskets I think it'll fire right up. 👍

    • @SuperMAZ007
      @SuperMAZ007  Před 8 měsíci +2

      It fired up even with the bad head gasket, however it just lacks in power and is performing kind of poor. Oil pump is the least of the issues cause thick diesel oil will do the trick. I don't know if I can pull the main bearings out and get them swapped as well. I have to consult with my friend on that. I have to admit this is one of the nicest engines from the inside that I have seen. Usually they are all sludge up to the brim cause no one changes the oil.

    Looks like a Y block on the outside, completely different inside lol. Soviets did this quite often, I'm not sure why. Another example is the tokarev tt-33. Looks like an FN 1903 clone on the outside, completely different inside. I'm guessing they make a carbon copy inside and out as a starting point, and then change it to suit their needs/address short-comings on the inside.

    • @SuperMAZ007
      @SuperMAZ007  Před 7 měsíci

      Kind of that sums it up right. Ford at least had a seal for the rear main. This engine has the old grease-filt seal that is notorious for leaking. The first carbon copy ZMZ-13 was really good. But the so called abridged version you see in the video, was a bad idea from the start. Lot of the issues came not from bad material choice but poor quality lubricants used. Never had heard any oil pressure issues or premature engine failure with the same engine that was exported to places where they had good oils.

    Are all Gaz engines alloy as opposed to cast iron for Ford y block ? Thanks for sharing 👍💨💨

    • @SuperMAZ007
      @SuperMAZ007  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Yup all are cast alloy from the beginning to the end. Not a great material choise cause alloy blocks tend to corrode if run with water and not cleaned in years. I think they used a more durable alloy casting but it is not uncommon or unhear of the block became useless. After it had been severely over heated. One thing they did fix better than the early Y-blocks. They fixed the notorious rocker issue that Ford could not fix.

    Steve nice truck . Very rare. Where did you get it?

    • @SuperMAZ007
      @SuperMAZ007  Před 7 měsíci

      Ten years ago these where still very common. Now they have all been cut to scrap or made into tractor trailers. The price of gasoline and the availability of parts made them go extinct. I both this truck from a scrap dealer, who wanted only the dump bed. The rest he did not care about.

      @@SuperMAZ007 Thank You for answer. I understand. I have that same model gaz 53 a with that same v8 engine . This truck's have quite good opinion. Of course need many attention but is worth it. Many of them is register on history car plate. Regular opinion is that zil 130 is better but gaz 53 is a lot less techical built complicated. Anyway very nice history truck. Nice work. 👍👍

    • @SuperMAZ007
      @SuperMAZ007  Před 7 měsíci

      @@ollenkka195 Good to hear that. ZIL has one downside, you can't get anything for it from Russia. Majority of ZIL trucks got scrapped in the early 90s and 2000s. So what is left usually needs total rebuild. I know some people have swapped the V8 out for a diesel engine. For me it is not worth it cause im not gonna drive it that much anyway. Also swapping the diesel engine is is not a straight forward process.
