  • A local fire professional recently returned after spending six weeks helping with the fire fight in Australia. Eric Zanotto has helped fight some of Colorado's largest fires, but says what's happening in Australia is unlike anything he's ever seen.

God bless every man and woman who came to Australia to help. You can check the footage, we were crying and clapping at the airport, the skies were blood red.

“NSW, the area around Sydney” for anyone curious of the actual range he was working in given that description, Sydney is the capital of the state New South Wales, which is around twice the size of Germany, with an ancient mountain range, vast forests of many ecosystems, much of the Murray-Darling basic between said mountains and the outback, almost a third of Australia’s population, and a decent area of the actual outback in its far west. It gets snow, has rainforests, deserts and most in between.

There are angels who walk among us, hidden under layers of smoke, ash, dirt, and soot, and they are our firefighters. When the fires of Hell itself come to rain down upon us, they stand up and say "Not today, and not now." From Aussie to Yank, and back again, my thanks.

It's sad what's going on in Australia. It is even more sad that most of those fire were started by people.
