I mean, there is a difference. Piramid: You pay to get money. MLM: Just a shop with points. For all I know, it's just some people prefer to earn a quick buck by scamming others, or just not having a plan to actually teach their recruits how to do this. Also, a genuine question, that buggs me, why all MLM stories from USA include "I bought a lot of those items and then didn't have anyone to sell them to" or some variation? Can't you buy it AFTER you have a customer?

    • @Charoula1608

@@minedantaken1684 No you can't buy stuff after the fact. That's how they get you. That's how they steal your money. They don't care about your customer's money. They want yours. You need to have stuff before. Some of them even force you to buy a certain amount of stuff every month.

I was involved with pyramid scheme too a couple years back (a friend introduced me to them).Too stupid though to realize what it really was at the time. I was just a broke ass college student who wish to make easy cash, and when they said that they could give me that opportunity, I was immediately hooked without a second thought.
It was after a while that I come to find out what a multi-level marketing really meant.
But just like your mother, it was all good for me too because the product that I was supposed to sell was sanitary pads. And I happened to be a girl, so it works out to me because I just use the products myself, and I also gave some of it to the girls in my friend circles.
It was the fact that I was indeed have been fooled that actually get on my nerves.
I hope your mother come to her senses someday. I've been there, and those fuckers in the scheme can be really convincing, they literally brainwash us. Some people even come to give blind respect to the leader of the group. It was at some point that it almost look like a cult worshiping the leader that made me feel skittish about them.

They target immigrants bc they have trouble understanding English and therefore finding jobs and personal finance might be difficult. At the surface it looks like they are trying to help you but the longer I stayed at the meeting the more suspicious it was with all the incentives they have. The special rings, the product being insurance, and weird events they hold. They are an MLM but so many people fall for it because they make it seem like you’ll be your own entrepreneur but the truth is you don’t get much out of it.

My boyfriend got contacted on LinkedIn by a pyramid scheme. He’s a coding engineer and they almost got him because he loves the idea of making more money on the side.
Turns out they had collected a ton of engineers, claiming the company needed their expertise. The company had a huge online meeting for new recruits, and luckily I listened into the meeting. Halfway through the meeting I told my bf that company is a pyramid scheme. You could see the wires connect and him get embarrassed that he almost fell for it.
They were just feeding engineer’s egos and that made so many of them blind from seeing they were just being used.
My bf is a very smart person, this just went over his head for a minute. At the end of the meeting where people could ask questions, he asked some very hard hitting questions. The moment the company realized people were hanging up from the meeting because of his questions showing they were a pyramid scheme, they shut down the meeting immediately.

And the people responsible for the scout group (the adults) are there just because they enjoy it. Nobody is giving them all the money necessary for all the equipment. So yeah, scouts go selling cookies or whatever they decide to sell so that they can buy all the equipment themselves. When I was 17 I got an "interview" for one of these companies. I was told I didn't need any education and I could "make full time money with part time work". My interview was held in some sketchy office above a plaza that I'm sure you could probably rent by the day. The recruiter was this early to mid 20 year old woman that was super pushy during our presentation. The entire "interview" lasted nearly 2 hours! Not sure why I stuck around, guess I didn't wanna be rude. When she "offered me the job" I said I wanted to think about it, she didn't take that well. I was by far the youngest there, as most of the people were college kids or middle aged adults, but I'm still proud of myself that I was able to say no, and walk out on the "job offer". I ended up finding a retail job a couple weeks later, it sucked ALOT but I stuck around for 5 years (while I was in college) and I also met my wife there. Guess everything happens for a reason.

Recently I was recruited to one of these companies too. Our interview is not long but after I'm recruited they make us spend 2 days to be "educated" about sale and marketing. The so-called teacher said he was a sale expert which is the highest place in the company. He said he is still studying and has already earned so much and that he values hard work. It basically feels like being brainwashed. Eventually I sensed something fishy about this company and left after the first day and I didn't regret it.
