Rabies is actually what's thought to have at least partially inspired stories about Vampires. Apart from the aforementioned symptoms you can also experience aversion to water (including the holy variety). Also nausea and vomiting (which explains sensitivity to garlic), insomnia and hyperactivity (walking during the night) and excessive salivation and agitation (which probably where the stories about drinking blood comes from).
