When a Chilean asks "do you want to be my girl/boyfriend?" They don't say "quieres ser mi novia/o?" Like the rest of Spanish people, they say "quieres pololear conmigo?", I would translate it to "do you want us to be in a relationship". So the boy is pololo and the girl is polola. Fun fact, "pololo" is a word from mapudungun, the mapuche language, and it refers to a species of fly, so I guess it was born from mothers to lock the boyfriend of their respective daughters, and it evolved to being used by the whole country, not just the mapuche territories

Awesome video and very informative, great work
Thank you! So many Americans know so little about this subject. It was also nice to hear from nice people who actually live there!
Aww man Barby, it's too bad that you had to treat Guyana and Suriname as the same country, especially culturally (because ok, granted, physically they're kind of the same). Suriname is way more diverse ethnically, e.g. they have the highest percentage of Indonesians in both South America and the Caribbean. There's more interesting stuff to get into. I won't do that right now. It's just a bummer that you took these countries, which are already relatively unknown, and then crushed the chance to highlight something cool about them.
I agree with you 100%
I agree. Suriname represent.🥂
Hey Geography Now I LOVE your content. I'm from Chile and was very pleased with your summary of it. I laughed out loud (in a good way) with your friends' attempt at a Chilean accent 🤣🤣🤣 in answer to your question about 'pololos' yes we do make a verb out of it; if asking a person if they're dating (as in if they have a girlfriend or a boyfriend) you would ask "estás pololeando (or pololiando)?" or if asking if someone would like to be your girlfriend or boyfriend, you would say "te gustaría pololear (or pololiar) conmigo?"
Love your videos! Keep up the good work!
WOW THANK YOU
THIS REALLY HELPED IN MY EXAMS
sarcastic^ i never viewed an explanation like this
This video is great, I've learned a lot!
Two years ago I was planing to travel in Australia, but visa wasnt ready on time so I went to Paraguay, which is close to where i live. Ended up being one of my favorite trips.
where do you live bro? I´m from Asuncion
@@Gustavo-hb3mx sry I took so long. I'm from Brazil. Asuncion still is one of my favorite cities

Priscilla Jimenez well, it’s actually shortened in the Paraguay video. The full name is “La Muy Noble y Leal Ciudad de Nuestra Señora Santa María de la Asunción”
Nope Ecuadorian and peruvian food are not similar AT ALL!!!
And "Laura" is no longer recorded in Perú, actually it's been like 8 years since she moved to Mexico, and her program is recorded there since then.
Peruvians hate her, and as well she had jail time for collaborating with Fujimori's dictatorial regime.
Henry Geldrez yup Ecuadorian food is way better
@@juanchabla6886 no it's not, and all the continent knows it.
Our food is way better you guys just copy our food
@@juanchabla6886 you wish!
@Juan Chabla I've been to Cuenca and the only condiment you know is Cumin. Peruvian food is WAY out of your league. Not to mention your disgusting habit of putting ketchup on cebiche
Feels nice looking at THE GOLDEN ARROW HEAD IN THE BACKGROUND (national flag) Guyana is a great place.. any other Guyanese here?
this really helped me understand what south America is about thank you
Chile's accent is *T H I C C*
So is the Ecuadorian lady in this episode _(waggles eyebrows)_
Shut up.
Suriname also has a notable Javanese population

As a Brazilian, I could mention that Uruguay was the only country in South America that didn't get separated from Spain, but from Brazil. Cool video anyway!
love this series! can u do one for the various parts of africa (west africa explained, east africa explained, etc.) and asia (south asians explained, etc.)
I know it is small, but maybe Scandinavia, Extended Scandinavia, or the Nordics?
I am interested in learning more about Extended Scandinavia. For example, what is that exactly, and what geographical entities does it entail?! Please let us know if you have any more information about this!
only if it includes finland, if not then meh.
Countries of the World Songs I believe Extended Scandinavia includes Finland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and the Åland Islands alongside the traditional Nordic Countries (Denmark, Sweden, and Norway).
I’d argue you may want to thrown in the Republic of Karelia in Russia as well as Estonia (if you’re including Finland, that is, seeing as Estonia is the little brother of Finland). Also Greenland, perhaps, though they aren’t exactly “Nordic” or “Scandinavian” anymore, given most of their population is indigenous peoples.
Sweden = Germany of Scandinavia
Denmark = Netherlands of Scandinavia
Norway = Switzerland of Scandinavia
criticalhard Finland’s only Nordic cause it was Viking territory, but they’re really different, because they don’t even speak an indo European language.
4:43 Portuguese is Spanish with a soft Russian accent
Portuguese is the wrong spanish
@@luckyrowmax no, just no
Yeah Both Russian and Portuguese sounds drunk but cool at the same time
No '-'
@@luckyrowmax Portuguese is older and more complex than Spanish so I think its the opposite
Sucesso, mano! Um salve de São Paulo!
Great job on South America and Central America!
I am Colombian, very proud of my heritage. An ancestor was the last governor of Panama in La Gran Colombia and another ancestor helped Simon Bolivar win against the Spaniards the war for independence, he gave Bolivar fresh horses after Bolivar got to Boyaca after coming from the mountains with his men.

This was awesome ! I feel like I understand so much better . Looking forward to the Venezuela edition . So sad.
I think here in Brazil we don't have many exposure about the others countries in South America in the news, music and etc, so we know quite more things with the countries we made border in our state (if is the case). I'm from Rio Grande do Sul state and I grow up seen Argentineans and Uruguayans in Brazil, so I feel more approached with them, it's quite easy to find someone here who have relatives in these countries, we have some similarities with the culture with Uruguay (in my state). It's so good we can easily travel between the countries because of Mercosul, I hope I can travel for all South America!
Looking forward for ASEAN explained. Godspeed!
This was so cool, thank you so much .I plan. To see many of these places someday soon , especially colombia
A very interesting fact about Argentina is that it is the powerhouse of rock music of South America. We have dozens of top notch musicians.
not only south america but from every hispanic country.
Miguel Mateos and Soda Stereo really come to mind.
I loved! loved! this video! I’d love to visit South America one day
HI Barbs
! I hope you are doing well... I know the Peruvian episode is coming up! Please mi mindful that we Peruvians (the majority at least) DO NOT FEEL WELL REPRESENTED WITH SEÑORITA LAURA... There are wat more interesting things to learn about our culture! Good luck with the episode! Thank you for all you and your team do to educate the world!
