- I really did hit the big perch jackpot last week. This is the best redfin fishing that I have ever had off the bank of any lake. I can think of a day that would equal, or possible beat it from my dads boat, but from the bank this wins hands down.
I fished Lake Buffalo with my dad in his boat last Saturday for just 7 or 8 small redfin. Then I went back on my own on Monday and hit the jackpot when filming this video.
Excited, I went back up there a few days later with my wife Lauretta, and managed to catch just 1 small redfin.

It's not until I edit my videos that I realise just how much I talk to myself. 🤣
your commentry is great 😅
Jealous Robbie no fishing like that in SA. Freshwater is not like Victoria. We are more saltwater and surf fishing.
@@paullubcke8554 Thanks Paul. Sadly S.A.Fisheries really do lack any decent management. It's been a problem for a very long time.
@@who-mperg4683 hahaha thanks mate. I'm a bit "out there" at times. LOL
@@robbiefishing Certainly has.
What an awesome catch, it was lovely to watch, keep them coming.
Thanks so much Gav. Sessions like that don't come along all that often.
When I had a great lot of panfish like yours that was going to be my breakfast before school. I used to get my Mum to save bacon grease and I used that to cook my breakfast fish. It added the bacon curd flavor. Nice lot of fish there. Days like that spoil me for the slower days. Good job Robbie.
Thanks mate, gee that's sounds amazing. Fresh fish fried in bacon fat, could it possibly get any better? Haha
Robbie thank you mate awesome clean content for the family . Always love your energy and great videos mate ! 👍🏻 you make us laugh. Thanks so much .
Hi Marko thank you so much for your kind words mate.
Nice big reddies ! Noticed over the years that often their growth is stunted if there's too many in a waterway.
I caught a big reddit once and after checking his gut , it had a huge yabbie that he'd swallowed whole. They're quite a savage feeder. Thanks n cheers Robbie !
Thanks so much mate. That is spot on. They're definitely all about balance. You never catch hundreds of big ones. When there's that many they're usually smaller average size. A lot of people will kill ad many as theu can to try and thin them out and encourage better growth.
@@robbiefishing the red perch is an extremely slow growing fish. a 35 cm perch might be as old as 15-20 years old. you wanna keep the smaller, and let bigger ones go, to help keep the stock healthy.
i fish some private waters, thats almost havent been fished for 30+ years. the perch in there are amazing. 1,5 kilo perch is rather common. got my biggest last summer, at 54 cm and just above 3 kilos. amazing fish, and amazing fight on a tiny 0-4 gram rod :)
Best Redfin fishing I have seen, thanks Robbie. Great to see you were having a ball.
Thanks John. Definitely one of my best ever sessions. The type of fishing that dreams are made of.
Mate you are a rippa... my condolences to you and your family... thank you for sharing your joy of fishing with a canadian bloke from Melbourne.. I really need to get to the places you fish.. you always have the greatest places and best stories.
Thank you so much for your kind words mate. Lake Buffalo is certainly a very picturesque lake to fish, absolutely beautiful. While I had a ripper session when I filmed this last Monday, it is a bit hit and miss up there at the moment. Thankfully I hit on this trip. March is the mist consistent.
Thats gotta be one of the best shore based redfin fishing I've ever seen your a legend Robbie thanks for the video 👍🏻
Thank you so much Shane. We all have good and bad fishing days, but every once in a while something magic happens, and that happened to me on this day.
Loved the video, your enthusiasm and good humour. Keep it up Robbie.
Thank you so much for watching mate.
Good on ya Robbie! what a session!
That’s awesome Robbie, great fish. Was stoked to see you get the soft plastic back! Love your vids, keep it up 👍🏽
Thanks so much mate. Haha That was very kind if that redfin to hand deliver my lure back ro me. LOL
Great little session there Robbie. Got to love the Redfin mate, I reckon they're probably the best tasting freshwater fish going, certainly in my neck of the woods. Tight lines mate and keep the videos coming.
Thanks so much Sean. I agree mate, beautiful eating fish for sure.
Only recently stumbled across your account. Loving these videos especially yabby and Murray Cray ones. I'd never thought I could binge watch someone else fishing but there's something really addictive about it 🤣🤣🤣
Haha Thank you so much Alo. I can't wait for crayfishing season to open next month so that I can lift my nets in anticipation of seeing the big white claws come up from the depths.
What an awesome session! Those minnows are like crack for redfin! Thanks for the awesome videos Robbie!
Thanks so much Ricky. They sure do work a treat.
Another most enjoyable video, thanks Robbie. Cheers buddy, take care and stay safe😅.😮 👍
Thanks so much mate. This is one of my all time favourite videos on my channel. This was such an epic trip!
What an wonderful session Robbie great Redfin. I have watched it twice. That’s what it used to be like when I was a teenager under the Echuca Wharf we used to catch about 15 and go home and cook them for breakfast
Thanks Peter. I have similar stories from here in Wangaratta. I would ride my bike down to the Ovens River in Wang, catch a few redfin, bring them home and then have a shower before school. Haha
Good one Robbie 👍 learnt from your advice thanks
Thanks for another video Robbie .
Condolences Robbie it's always a punch in the gut when you loose someone close.
I was out your side of town yesterday never been through Wangaratta before it's beautiful part of Victoria.
Thanks so much George. I love living here. I've been here all my life and have no plans on ever leaving.
That’s some bloody good fishing there Robbie well done mate!
Thabks mate. These were bug enough to pass as W.A. redfin. Haha
Awesome Robbie what a great catch and one of the best eating imports that we have in our fresh water streams and lakes
Thanks Rod, and I agree. If not THE best. I prefer a redfin fillet over a trout any day. 👍👍
Cracking vid! Great session Robbie well done mate
Thanks so much Tommy. 👍
Now THAT'S a HAUL of red fin Robbie! Like it USED to be when I was a kid! A few stonkers there for sure mate! SMOKE a few of those up dude!
Thanks UF, I was so excited that afternoon. Haha The bait session was great too. I didn't catch nearly as many, but I was treated to a pleasant surprise by-catch.

Thanks Bernie, you're not wrong mate.
Now that’s a Redfin session! Awesome video and lovely spot Robbie. ✌️🙂
Thanks Tubby, I really the jackpot on this trip. Just walked down the boat ramp and BANG, then walked back up the boat ramp half an hour later carrying 7 redfin. Haha

Awesome fishing there, Robbie! You'd have to be happy with a feed of redfin like that!
Thanks Frank. I was VERY happy with that session don't you worry. Days like that dont come along very often.
Wow your mother will be delighted to see you coming. LOL.
Thanks Vincent. Both parents ended up with a decent feed of fresh redfin. Haha
I'd be happy with that kind of session any time of year! Great work mate
Thanks mate, I think any of us would. This was definitely one out of the box. LOL
Great video. Such a great fish, first fish i caught as a child many years ago growing up on the Murray. Awesome getting that lure back.
Thanks mate, they really are an awesome fish to catch.... and to eat!!
Thats a bloody good feed fella
I'm not a fisherman's tackle box but I enjoyed this video. Great part of the world and only about an hour from home. Sorry to hear about your loss mate. Lost my uncle two weeks ago. That's my mum's side all gone.
Thanks so much Aaron. I am so sorry to hear of your loss too. It is a part of life though isn't it, as sad as it is.

Thanks so much Michael. Yeah all going well here thanks mate. Got a bit going on with family illnesses and deaths, but it happens. As long as it is in the right order... I can accept it. It's when someone gets terminally ill at a young age that I struggle to accept it.
I hope you have a ripper day mate.

Sickness and death are both very hard subjects to approach, and when it's a family member your world is turned upside down ..
One thing I always tell anyone who faces this , is to tell the person what they mean to you , tell them if you love them .....it takes great strength from you , but makes you even stronger... never waste a moment, laugh ,cry , have a tin .... but make it memorable.....
Mate our best wishes to each and everyone, more so to the person In question...we are thousands of miles away , but it spirit we are closer

Super session - great average size and such beautiful coloration Robbie!
Thanks Frank. Isn't it amazing how fish always have more vibrant colours when caught in clear water.
honestly love the videos such a cool guy
Thank you so much mate.
Robbie your wife is good to you. Your heart is in the right place. She loves you for you treat her well and vice versa.
Thank you Michelle. I took her up to this spot a few days after i filmed this.
Brilliant when all the conditions are just right and it's a fish a chuck. Those were some hard fighting perch
Thanks Grant. You're not wrong mate, trips like this don't happen all that often.
What an awesome Redfin session, your Mom is in for a great meal :)
Thanks so much Larry. She said she loved every single bite.
A couple of cracking reddies there Robbie, nice work.
Thanks so much Neil.
What an awesome session Robbie. Your Mum will enjoy that lot. I had a bit of a laugh at about 17 minutes in, when you caught another and "Mum will enjoy this one" an advert popped up.....a woman snoring while sleeping in a mattress adverts. I thought , "Robbie I hope Mum is more entheustic than that". Perfect timing for an advert like that. But again great session thanks for sharing.
Hahaha that's so funny. 🤣 Thanks for the laugh, and thanks for watching.
what a beautiful lake, the view is impressive
Thanks mate, it really is a magnificent Lake to fish.
You ripper Robbie! Nice fish mate and great video. I live in FNQ and my favourite fishing is chasing sooty grunter in the freshwater creeks by myself, especially on surface lures at sparrow fart. Keep doing what you love doing because that's what it's all about. Cheers mate.
Thanks so much mate. Sparrow fart is the best time of the day by a mile.
Outstanding session. Enjoy the fillets 😄🐟
Thanks mate. My parents enjoyed them immensely.
Nice work! Fewer redfin in the water means more native fish, so the more you catch the better.
Great session Robbie🍺👍🏽
Thanks so much Allan.
This is awesome. I can’t wait to get to Victoria on my trip around Australia and fish here. And like always the best fishing videos
Thank you so much. I'm not sure when you're coming down, buy I find Lake Buffalo fishes best around March and April. I had 3 trips last week and this was the only successful one.

Mate! Excellent work. You were in the right spot at the right time. A redfin fisherman I know always reckons you catch them better on a windy day especially if the winds behind you as they come in close waiting for something to blow from offshore like insects etc. I look forward to the day I bag some that size. Always love you vids👍
Forgot to ask you, what pound line do you use?
Thanks so much mate. Great theory about the wind, I must remember that.
I am using Platypus Pre-test 5lb monofilamemt line on this reel mate. 👍
Beautiful country.
Thanks Pat, it sure is beautiful up there.
Great detective work Robbie, the culprit was caught...... good feed and hope you are all good with the personal stuff mate.
Thanks so much for your kind words mate. Haha That was very kind of that redfin to bring my lure back to me. LOL
Well I think whenever you talk it’s either interesting or funny. You could just catch a tadpole and be happy Robbie. It’s all about being out and enjoying life 🤗
Haha thank you so much Sharon. Being happy is what it's all about.

Thanks mate. I was certainly on top of the world thst night. Haha
What a solid session!
Thanks mate. Short and VERY sharp. Haha
oh man wish i had those days haha although i did had a good session before never had large fish like you had. but its definately a great feeling wen u walk up to a boat ramp, cast out and get a decent amount of good perch
Thanks mate. These days sure are uncommon. I was so wired that evening. LOL

Certainly has Sash, in the biggest possible way.
Great feed there Robbie! And you should do a review on your bogs, haha! Glad you like them. 🤙🏻
Thanks for the feedback mate, they're so bloody good. I'm totally going to review them. Haha
Great video mate. 10/10 action
Thanks brother. The week before me and my old man fished for 3 hours from his boat and only caught a few small ones. I think this was a case of right place and right time.

Awesome session mate, thumping reddies
Thanks buddy. I really did hit the jackpot that day. WOW
I’m so jealous, I went with a mate of mine to Bostock Reservoir in Ballan on the weekend and all we got was 1 Redfin each but very small. You’re killing it mate well done
Thanks mate. There's a lot of luck involved. I went back here 3 days after filming this last week and caught 1 small redfin. LOL And... 3 days before i filmed this my dad and I had a really slow session. There's a lot of "Right place at the right time" involved.
Glorious evening on the reddies mate. I love my BOGS gummies, wear them around the farm down on the surf coast constantly. Beware of the fit assist finger holes on upper boot, I got wet feet through those fishing a small productive reservoir Noth of Ballarat yesterday. Got 2 nice rainbows & one horse reddies like yours. Cooked a feed of snags up for family relaxed in the sun on the grass bank everyone happy, any never saw another person. I have fished your country since I owned my first HQ Holden 1989 and have some beautiful spots way up Dandongadale, Abby yards, etc....I have watched EVERY single video you've ever uploaded luv them nightly ritual now...I rarely comment but was inspired by you tonight mate.
Hi Simon thank you so much for your kind words mate. My first car was a HQ Holden. 202 auto, high beam dip switch on the floor. I loved it, but geez it was thirsty. LOL It was a 1972 Prem.
I deliberately chose the boots without the handles. Best decision I made. Haha As soon as I saw the holes it was a definite NO from me. LOL
One thing that the bogs do a lot better than the gumboots is hold their shape. I can slide my feet right in with no hands. With gumboots I need to use my hands to hold the top open. Haha
Your a classic. Yep the good old 202 red motor, my first car wagon HQ,. 2nd car sedan HQ, 3rd car panel van HQ,. 4th car GTS Sandman 308 Ute......wrapped it around a tree at Tolmie leaving the pub around 1993 .... Shame imagine what it would be worth today. Had my old fj40 short wheel base land cruiser (& a XR400) living in the shed at the parents 10 acre get away house in Tolmie, Bunsons Rd. I regularly took the back tracks into King Valley and fished up from top crossing & every other tiny bit of water around. Arrrrr those were the days. You are incredible the way you take time to reply to EVERYONE, you legend, luv ya without meeting you!
@@007slyman Thank you so much mate. I'm glad you didn't get injured in the prang. That entire road has a speed limit of 80kph now from the start of the climb on the Mansfield side all the way to Whitfield.
When I had my Ls in the early 90s, I learnt to drive in my old man's HQ wagon. It had a 161 red motor in it and barely had enough power to pull the skin off a banana. Haha
Wow👍Awesome buddy!!!!!!
Thanks Tommy. Definitely a memorable day.
You were on fire 🔥 Robbie mate lol 😝

thats as good as it gets mate, nice one. ps. keep talking its great.
Haha thanks so much Mick. Days like this don't come along too often mate.
Amazing video
Thank you so much.
Wow great catch for the day. We used to get these in large numbers at the spillway at lake William Hovel back in the 70s 80s. In later years they just disappeared
Thanks mate. Yeah they're a funny fish like that. They seem to fish best during, and after wet years and then thin right out during dry years.
I've caught them in the big deep hole below William Hovell, but never big ones.
Yea the ones we got there years ago were never big. The trout on the other hand were pretty big with many over 6 pounds. I did have a bit of a poke in the hole 2 years ago and lost something very big and heavy. Bigger than a 6 pound trout. Someone said it may have been a cod. Never seen any cod there back in the 80s but after all these years who knows? Have you cought any Murray Cod in the King River above Cheshunt?@@robbiefishing
Good work mate.
Thanks so much Ross.
Nice redfin nom nom! Didn't look that windy! hahaha
Haha It was blowing s gale at the car park. I suspect that as I walked down the boat ramp I was sheltered from the wind a bit.
When I share the bait fishing video that I filmed afterwards you will see how windy it was. LOL
Epic work
Thanks buddy.
