Celine is a superstar and I'm happy she was discovered because of her win in Eurovision, but if we're talking about the song, it's great but not a winner for me. I like the United Kingdom's song a tiny bit better. But yeah Céline is amazing. But so was Scott. I have a feeling people are putting Switzerland always on #1 because it's Céline (not everyone, but many). Other good songs are Denmark, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Spain and Sweden

I,m surprised😳because your Top-3 is exactly my Top-3 (since many years ago in my case). But I felt a shock when I read you that the austrian "Wilfried is a great singer"😳😅 Precisely, Wilfriend got 0 point because his voice and his "performance" was the worst of the worst I listened in all Eurovision history. However, Mona Lisa and the female voice assistant was not bad. Either Im agree with you about Portugal entry, but our Top-3 deserves my "congratulations" Jeje. Greetings from Spain. Where are you from?😉

For me this was the year that beats all others hands down. Not just because of the quality of most of the songs but also because it includes my favourite Eurovision song ever, Sweden. It's well known that Tommy Korberg had suffered from a fever in the lead up to the contest which was feared would affect his voice but he gave it his all and it still sends shivers down my spine when I listen to it. I don't ever see another song taking over my number one all time favourite. There were at least ten songs this year which would have made worthy winners, unprecedented in Eurovison history as far as I'm concerned.
    Sweden 12 points
    Luxembourg 10 points
    Switzerland 8 points
    Norway 7 points
    Germany 6 points
    United Kingdom 5 points
    Israel 4 points
    Greece 3 points
    Turkey 2 points
    Spain 1 point
Then France, Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland & Italy.

Regarding Tommy Körberg, I agree with you completely. His song on "ESC-88" is my favorite too. I first saw Tommy on TV in 1988, back in the days of the Soviet Union, in the Soviet-Swedish program "Jacob's Ladder", filmed in Stockholm, where popular Soviet and Swedish singers performed. Unlike the groups "ABBA", "Europe" and later "Ace of Base", the Swedish stage was not popular either in the USSR or in Russia, and, unfortunately, this only performance by Tommy Körberg on "Jakob's Ladder" did not receive a wide resonance among Soviet listeners. The only thing he is famous for here is his role as a Soviet chess player in the musical "Chess". But this, again, is only among the most ardent fans of ABBA, who thoroughly know not only the songs and LP of the group, but also the solo work of each of the four, as well as their biography.
I then recorded all the songs from that "Jakob's Ladder" on an audio tape recorder, and wrote the names of all the Swedish artists unknown to me then in a notebook. Tommy opened the concert with the English version of the song "Stad i ljus". For many years I knew nothing more about him, and only from the moment when the Internet became an integral part of our consciousness, I was able to get to know his work more widely. As we say in Russia, "And along, and across."

  • @irondasgr

Well, just for the history, our greek song (that some of you really like as I can read below) was selected through a very eventful national final when the audience by having the result announced started to boooo - while the whole country was watching, there were only two TV channels back then - the jury members were pretty much annoyed by the low quality of the songs presented and the song received extremely bad critics from the press and the media onwards, even though it was said that it was the most decent among all other entries. Still now it is retained to be one of our worst entries so far and everyone for sure jokingly refers to it when one has to as it is seen as "picturesque" (in a certainly negative way). Personally, I was doing my english homework when the show was playing that night and half of my mind and ears were paying attention to the songs coming from the room next door. Without even watching, only partly listening dull song after dull song I put a remark on this one as best. I was a hit back then.

I'm not chauvinistic when it comes to my country Belgium, but this song is one of the best entries we have ever had, so I really don't understand the whole negative vibe around it. Most definitely one of the best entries of that year. And by the way Luxembourg should have won it by far the best song of 1988. Norway 2nd and Israel 3rd. Céline is a great performer but to be honest I really don't like this entry, and France and The Netherlands are way overrated!!!
