Absolutely agreed with #1! No one will top Celine Dion!
Celine is a superstar and I'm happy she was discovered because of her win in Eurovision, but if we're talking about the song, it's great but not a winner for me. I like the United Kingdom's song a tiny bit better. But yeah Céline is amazing. But so was Scott. I have a feeling people are putting Switzerland always on #1 because it's Céline (not everyone, but many). Other good songs are Denmark, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Spain and Sweden
No one can win over Celine, Best comment ever
1 Sweden 2 Norway 3 PORTUGAL 4 Switzerland 5 Luxembourg 6 Denmark 7 France 8 Turkey 9 Ireland 10 United Kingdom
Makes me sad that you put my winner in last place
Makes me sad that your winner is my worst entry this year.

I,m surprised😳because your Top-3 is exactly my Top-3 (since many years ago in my case). But I felt a shock when I read you that the austrian "Wilfried is a great singer"😳😅 Precisely, Wilfriend got 0 point because his voice and his "performance" was the worst of the worst I listened in all Eurovision history. However, Mona Lisa and the female voice assistant was not bad. Either Im agree with you about Portugal entry, but our Top-3 deserves my "congratulations" Jeje. Greetings from Spain. Where are you from?😉
I will always choose Lara over Celine. Lara forever!🤍
Eurovision 1988 was the best edition in the '80s, It's almost impossible to rank all those wonderful songs.

3 pt- Belgium
4 pt- France
5 pt- Austria
6 pt- Denmark
7 pt- Finland
8 pt- Italy

13 Norway

16 Finland
17 Belgium
18 France
19 Greece
20 Iceland
21 Austria
Thanks for the 6th place! Unfortunately he was not feeling well so he didn't do the final high note D:
I also really loved Sweden a lot, that song is amazing :)
And of course Celine was the best by far haha
Just think Luxembourg is a bit underrated D:
Aw, poor guy D: Tommy (Sweden) apparently had a really high fever during the final, therefore he also slipped here and there.
For me this was the year that beats all others hands down. Not just because of the quality of most of the songs but also because it includes my favourite Eurovision song ever, Sweden. It's well known that Tommy Korberg had suffered from a fever in the lead up to the contest which was feared would affect his voice but he gave it his all and it still sends shivers down my spine when I listen to it. I don't ever see another song taking over my number one all time favourite. There were at least ten songs this year which would have made worthy winners, unprecedented in Eurovison history as far as I'm concerned.
Sweden 12 points
Luxembourg 10 points
Switzerland 8 points
Norway 7 points
Germany 6 points
United Kingdom 5 points
Israel 4 points
Greece 3 points
Turkey 2 points
Spain 1 point
Then France, Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland & Italy.
Regarding Tommy Körberg, I agree with you completely. His song on "ESC-88" is my favorite too. I first saw Tommy on TV in 1988, back in the days of the Soviet Union, in the Soviet-Swedish program "Jacob's Ladder", filmed in Stockholm, where popular Soviet and Swedish singers performed. Unlike the groups "ABBA", "Europe" and later "Ace of Base", the Swedish stage was not popular either in the USSR or in Russia, and, unfortunately, this only performance by Tommy Körberg on "Jakob's Ladder" did not receive a wide resonance among Soviet listeners. The only thing he is famous for here is his role as a Soviet chess player in the musical "Chess". But this, again, is only among the most ardent fans of ABBA, who thoroughly know not only the songs and LP of the group, but also the solo work of each of the four, as well as their biography.
I then recorded all the songs from that "Jakob's Ladder" on an audio tape recorder, and wrote the names of all the Swedish artists unknown to me then in a notebook. Tommy opened the concert with the English version of the song "Stad i ljus". For many years I knew nothing more about him, and only from the moment when the Internet became an integral part of our consciousness, I was able to get to know his work more widely. As we say in Russia, "And along, and across."

The best winner ever! Celine Dion made me into Eurovision besides the Mormon brothers from Sweden!
My favourite is Luxembourg. But other than placing luxembourg so far down, this list is actually quite accurate to mine opinion.
Lara Fabian wow amazing
WoW
Your last is my first
I agree 100% about Chante ur de Charme being a worthy 2nd but oddly it never features when Gérard sings the oldies or brings out a compilation album.
My Top 5:
5: Ireland
4: United Kingdom
3: Israel
2: Iceland
1: Switzerland
Ireland’s „Rock and Roll kids“ were maybe copied of Germany’s 1988 entry... 😂🤔
Well, just for the history, our greek song (that some of you really like as I can read below) was selected through a very eventful national final when the audience by having the result announced started to boooo - while the whole country was watching, there were only two TV channels back then - the jury members were pretty much annoyed by the low quality of the songs presented and the song received extremely bad critics from the press and the media onwards, even though it was said that it was the most decent among all other entries. Still now it is retained to be one of our worst entries so far and everyone for sure jokingly refers to it when one has to as it is seen as "picturesque" (in a certainly negative way). Personally, I was doing my english homework when the show was playing that night and half of my mind and ears were paying attention to the songs coming from the room next door. Without even watching, only partly listening dull song after dull song I put a remark on this one as best. I was a hit back then.
well it didn't disturb your English knowledges! They are quite good!
Linda Kristine Kjørlibråten
Hehehe... thank you. What I still can't explain is how on earth I decided not to watch the show that night when I certainly knew that it would have been completely impossible for me to concentrate on those exercises.
Well, other artists are worth your attention! In 2002 my country Norway was out for a year. Well the party must go on and I picked out my own favourites.....! :-)
I really like the Greek entry for some reason :D
La chica que yo quiero, quiero made in Spain...lo que se oyó ese verano en España.
❤️ United Kingdom!
Putting Croire after Clown is... unbelievable to say it in a polite way ;-) Anyway, Stad i ljus was, is and will always be my 12 points of 1988!
My favorite on "ESC-88" TOMMY KÖRBERG. "Stad i ljus" 12 points.
It is a pity that the time of beautiful lyrical songs at Eurovision has sunk into oblivion and now this contest has turned into a big garbage dump.
yes CELINE du Quebec, im fan esc same 1988 from Quebec City's Canada
Agafya which contest did You see first?
2005 or 2006.
I'm not chauvinistic when it comes to my country Belgium, but this song is one of the best entries we have ever had, so I really don't understand the whole negative vibe around it. Most definitely one of the best entries of that year. And by the way Luxembourg should have won it by far the best song of 1988. Norway 2nd and Israel 3rd. Céline is a great performer but to be honest I really don't like this entry, and France and The Netherlands are way overrated!!!
There is something pretty awkward and claustrophobic about the belgian song. I don't hate to listen to it but I am afraid that if I were to make my own top, I'd place it somewhere around the end too.
This is probably my least fave year of the 80's. Celine was pretty much unbeatable, and apart from UK, Sweden, France and my guilty pleasure Turkey, the rest range from "alright but not great" to "very weak" for me.
Our song is killed because of thise forgein baking vocals
Go search"melhor cançao de sempe -voltarei"
4:41 And Canada has won the Eurovision.
sorry but Greece had their worst entry and Luxembourg one of their best.
According to you. Not to me. Saying "sorry" before doesn't make your opinion more valid than mine ;)
I love Luxembourg,Norway,Yugoslavia and UK that year. The rest is bla bla.
Iceland the winner
But I disagree about your thoughts in Portugal, Iceland, Luxembourg and Yugoslavia, Portugal was okay, Srebrna Krila was still better than Riva, Sokrates is one of my favorite Icelandic song and still better than their song in 1989 and Lara Fabian and her song is one of the best this year
PORTUGAL The EST!!!

Lara Fabian was my no2 in that year.
Why Britain came second is a mystery to me, one of their weakest entries.
The song from Switzerland is extremely terrible and scary.
