    For anyone in Utah, avoid Brent Brown Toyota at all costs. You’ll def be subjected to paying a mark up, hidden fees, and very poor customer service. I would recommend Mark Miller Toyota; they give you the out-the-door price right from the start (with no mark ups or fees).

      I'm not in Utah but very close Wyoming. Thats good to know. This is the truck I want.. minus 5k in options...maybe thats where they stick it to you on off the window sticker. Ill give mark Miller a call later I guess. See who offers me the best for my super low mileage trade in. 2015 ram with 29k miles should fetch a good trade IMHO. Lime green and manual trans just speaks to my soul. They're so rare that I fear ill have to order from the factory

    I got my 2021 TRD Off-Road Army Green 6-Speed Manual brand new. Have 26,000 miles now. Great truck.
    HOWEVER - I will say this: first gear is just a smidge faster than granny gear. DAILY I get folks upset when they’re behind me because when I take off in 1st, around 15MPH I have to shift.
    Isn’t till 2nd when it gets going. But DAILY I watch folks behind me get upset because my truck isn’t “going fast enough for them” I guess.
    Also - know that 6th gear is for 75MPH Zoe faster. If you let off the accelerator at 75MPH or slower, when you go to resume speed and press back on the accelerator, you’re going to feel a “clunk”/jerking sensation…. It’s apparently “normal”.

      @@atitudlanggam3125 ironically, a few weeks ago, I got to talking to one of the guys I do Jiu Jitsu with. I'd seen his Taco before. We were cooling down the other day. Told him about my "clunk". Turns out he's in charge of QC at the Toyota Plant. He hopped in my truck. We go on the highway. He felt what I was talking about. Said essentially its normal. It's that drivetrain slack and NOT doing any damage at all. What I've changed in my driving habits is anything below 75MPH and I go down to 5th. No more "clunk". Now if I stay in 6th and am going below 75, you'll feel the "clunk", but again, it's momentary. Truck handles fine. No damage. I think this speaks to the importance of doing Jiu Jitsu 🙂.

    Love the pro but I will have to disagree about the rev matching. I have a 2021 TRD sport manual and it rev matches beautifully and sounds great doing it. Likely just takes a bit more than one drive to get the feel of when and how to do it.

  • @chopstx4u207

    It’ll feel much better on shifting after removing the clutch accumulator. That thing is like training wheel and makes shifting sloppy.

  • @Shravan.R.Prabhakaran

    man people talk about these big throws as if theyre something bad.. id say for a truck the big throw in the shifter makes it look trucky and feels more manly...

  • @MrKongpvu
    @MrKongpvu Před 2 lety +2

    Ben you are usually pretty spot on but you assumption about the manual is probably because you have not compared it to the auto for it's intended purpose in off-roading. Rev match a 4wd? Auto crawl better? Comparing speed? It's about how much power and when to use it that a manual is superior. Crawl is slower and more controlled also. I never use the off road modes to off-road and neither does anyone I know. They simply switch to 4wd lo and lock the rear when things get serious.

    Really like the look of this truck, inside and out, and I'd love to have a truck with a manual transmission like that, but they put reverse in the wrong position without a solid gate, which is kind of a fail really. Reverse should be over past 6th gear, or there should be a solid gate that has to be lifted if it's going to be on the left by 1st gear. Otherwise, getting a feel for the thing is just a pain in the a$$, making it more annoying than fun. You were also shifting pretty early, so I have to wonder if the performance might have been better if you got the revs a little higher before shifting. Like you said, it's a truck, not a sports car, but still, a 3.5 should give decent acceleration.

    • @japonplays1410
      @japonplays1410 Před rokem +2

      The reverse shift is very natural and isn't a hassle, as you might think. Theres no 'mush' going into first, theres also no hesitation or mistaking which gear you're about to put it in. Honestly more convenient than having a gate you need to lift, and easier to switch back and forth between 1st and reverse for turning around in tight spaces

    • @un_controlled
      @un_controlled Před 8 měsíci

      @@japonplays1410 I agree. I have a '23 TRD OR MT. Going into R requires a bit more force than you would use to go into 1st to get passed the gate. Even when you are trying to quickly shift into 1st, never an issue with accidentally putting it into R

    I owned a 2020 Tacoma TRD Offroad and I hated it. The most annoying vehicle I've ever owned to drive, terrible seating position, constant gear hunting, anemic performance, etc and the payload capacity is worst in class. I fell for the hype surrounding this truck and I've never been more disappointed in a vehicle. Toyota needs to get serious and update this truck into something that's comfortable, powerful and capable enough to actually be worth the absurd asking price. Reliability isn't everything, a truck needs to do a lot of things well and Tacoma fails overall. I'm interested to see what Toyota does with the redesign, but they have a lot of work to do to make me consider buying the next gen model.

    • @jpl8085
      @jpl8085 Před 2 lety +2

      That is why i have always hesitated to get a Tacoma. Too many things Toyota is falling short on with this truck. The only real positive is that this may be the only damn truck you can get in a manual anymore.

    • @Do-UR-Research2749
      @Do-UR-Research2749 Před 2 lety +2

      You would feel differently about reliability if your rig spent 4 months combined in the shop for warranty work during a 2 year period. With no dealer loaner and not owning a second vehicle.
      That's what I had to go through with my brand new 2019 diesel Chevy ZR2. Tradeded that turd in and bought a 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro with a manual and couldn't be happier.

      I loved my Diesel F series trucks, the Hondas were good to me, my Toyotas never left me stranded. But the Chevys and the only Dodge I've owned were both POS which left me stranded.
      The ZR2 left me stranded 550 miles from home for two weeks waiting on parts.

  • @Snappydadshoes
    @Snappydadshoes Před 2 lety

    Well...I own a TRD sport with the manual. I've never rev matched it. Never even thought of that. My last car was a 2015 Mustang GT. Sure, rev match that. It was also a 6 speed. The throttle in the manual is horrid. Get a pedal commander, its like a new vehicle. Or get a tune. It'll fix the sluggish issue between the manual and the automatic. The manual actually has better final drive, 4.30 vs the 3.91 of the automatic. In 4 low, the manual has a better crawl ratio 44:1 compared ot 36:1 of the automatic. Oh also, the manuals are harder to find making them more desirable. Just FYI. Buy whatever you like.
