  • Peter Green loved to jam. After Peter left the band in 1970, Jeremy abruptly quit in early 71. Peter came back to help the group during some tours and with the band performed some epic jam sessions. During the group's live performances in 1972, Danny along with Bob Welch brought in their own version of extended jams. This improvisation was added to one of the songs Peter is most famous for.

When I first heard FM's jams during the time Danny was with them (courtesy of CZcams), I immediately thought them far better than those of another band famous for its jams, the Grateful Dead. Amazing that Danny would just have gone along for the ride, as he seems heart & soul involved. Not only that, but listening to this one, I wouldn't have suspected any tension between Danny and Bob Welch. Bob's attempts at rousing the crowd sure bug me, but apparently they didn't bug Danny, at least not when they were up there playing.

I agree. Danny's heart and soul is evident. Probably not the best choice of words when I stated going along for the ride. I based my comment on experts and their knowledge of Danny. I'm not saying he didn't enjoy jamming, which I heard John didn't like to do, it was he preferred songs. The 1972 examples of the group jamming were more structured in my opinion. However, if you listen to any live rendition of BMW performed in 71 and 72, few follow the same script. As far as Welch is concerned, I do believe they worked well together on stage because it sounds like Bob didn't try to upstage Danny. He stuck to playing rhythm and throwing out short riffs like the one you hear at the 52 second mark.
