      I'd buy over leasing.

    • @ricochet48
      @ricochet48 Před rokem +3

      They want you to lease because that's where the money is. Even assuming a wheel replacement, you buy it in like 16 months if it's $1,200 (note they fire-saled the E500s last month for like half that). If they release a new model every year though like Apple, then it might make sense for those that want the latest & greatest (buy they are paying way more).

    • @thetds101
      @thetds101 Před rokem

      @@ricochet48 the insurance makes a world of difference. When leasing it's easier for the consumer to get repairs done IMO. And since it's geared towards the stylish consumer, most would want a different scooter after 1 year. Purchasing means that wouldn't be possible. If you decide to rent, it allows you to swap for a different color, or a new model, when available.

    • @ricochet48
      @ricochet48 Před rokem

      @@thetds101 I understand the concept, but recognize that people pay a huge premium for it (which is why Unagi pushes it and does not care much about those that buy outright). How many people want to upgrade a scooter every year... this isn't an iPhone (but it's marketed to those that are moronic enough to 'upgrade' to a new iPhone every year). You can buy for $1,200, spend $50 in new tires and sell in a year for half that and still be $240 ahead than if you spent $890 to own for a year through the rental program.

      The only thing I find really elegant about the design is the tapered stem that is wider where it needs to be. That's very nice, albeit subtle. The rest to me looks very humdrum and not particularly eye-catching.

    I really wanted to get the voyager but living in NYC, it’s practically impossible. With the classic, I literally felt every bump in the pavement, EVERY SINGLE BUMP. I’ve had to get off and walk on certain stretches of road because the vibrations were so severe. I’m shocked they didn’t add shocks to this model because its desperately needed. Aesthetically, this is by far one of the best looking scooters ever and the durability is mind blowing. I could not possibly recommend this scooter for people who live in cities with rough roads.

      You need to get some suspension on your scooters. Right outside your store in NYC you see how terrible the roads are, there is no way you say your scooters can ride on anything like that or anywhere else in Manhattan. You have a nice design and unique look but I wouldn't buy that scooter even though you offered it to me for $450 when I wanted to return the rental. And the retail price of $1K to have such a dreadful ride when there are other scooters with way better ride quality for the same price and more range is unjustifiable. Also need to make the stem more sturdy. It felt like it would break eventually. What happened to your Model 11????

      Food for thought- for Unagi.
      #1) Please make it or update firmware/ software so we can have a cruise control mode (maybe double- tapping the throttle to engage cruise control..).
      #2) Make a more rigid kick stand (seems kind of weak at the pivot point).
      #3) Make a better charger port cover.. lol It's kind of hard to uncover at times (I have no nails long enough to help pry the cover out to charge it).
      #4) Make an Unagi-branded cell phone mount (I've bought 3 now from Amazon, and all of them are hard to install and don't fit good- the mount gets in the way of the throttle/ brake leavers due to the way the scooter's handle bars are shaped and not being perfectly round)
      #5) Make an Unagi- branded scooter bag/ satchel to fit on the scooter's stem, but enough to carry a phone and/or charger for on the go charging.
      #6) Be nice if there was a plug-in USB adapter module that can be tied into the power connector on the handle bars so we can charge our cell phones from- especially now with there being an app for the scooter.
      #7) Please update firmware/ software so there is an option to turn kick-to- start on or off.
      #8) And... dreaming here... make it to where we can unlock unlimited top speed (not just the 20MPH).
      That's just my ideas. Great scooter though!!

  • @powerpopjoey
    @powerpopjoey Před rokem +6

    If you're riding around a campus or similar short distance journey ON SMOOTH SURFACES, it could be a decent choice. But, I don't think it's really an appealing option for most people looking for a commuter scooter on city streets / in the bike lane. Not unless you want to experience a horribly uncomfortable ride.
    A lot to like concerning everything you mentioned: Portability, weight, power for it's size, simple design, etc. But, it really does have a very limited potential market. In fact, I think some people who buy a UNAGI (in error, not fully understanding what it's designed for) will seek to upgrade soon after. Hopefully they don't consider the harsh ride quality (due to the tires) to be a common experience and just give up on scooter riding altogether.
    I appreciate all options in the market, and I think that resources like ESG can help niche market items, like the UNAGI, find the correct buyer.
    As always, an informative review.

    I rented this for about 4 months on NYC streets ans just like someone else said I felt every single possible bump in the road. Just the dividing cracks between concrete tiles on side walks I felt. Seriously this could not have been made for a daily commuter. This is strictly for a college campus or maybe a large factory campus. THAT'S IT. I went and bought a new Ninebot G2 max with suspension and what a world of difference. Triple the range, faster top speed, more torque and acceleration than the Unagi while being just single motored. And best part I ride on NYC streets and have no knee, ankle and neck pain. When you ride them one after the other the difference stands out even more drastic. I love the lightweight of the Unagi but the trade off with ride comfort with the heavier G2 Max is MORE than worth it.

  • @fabiodias5527
    @fabiodias5527 Před rokem

    I've never ridden an Unagi. Even though it looks SUPER cool, I still think a better lightweight option could be the OKAI. My older OKAI that got stolen climbed up hills better than my current Apollo Air, plus had a super dope look. My biggest concern with the Unagi would be ride quality especially because of those tires. If with a scooter like the OKAI that does have some sort of suspension the ride quality was a bit on the tougher side, I could not imagine ridding an UNAGI. There's always going to be trade offs with the scooters we end up buying, but after testing the ride quality of the Apollo Air, it's tough to go back to something so stiff and bumpy like the OKAI and how I imagine the Unagi feels based on those tires.
    Unagi and OKAI, in my opinion have it all to make DOPE looking scooters like the Apollo Pro, but at a more affordable price, covering the basics of a daily commuter style scooter.
    I wish the Apollo Pro design eventually came to more affordable scooters like the Apollo Air... which is starting to look a bit outdated.

    One and only reason I don't buy it is because it has only electric brake. Should implement atleast one drum brake like E-twow scooter. One of the reasons I got E-twow instead of this one. Don't trust Unagi braking.

    I want this scooter so bad but it's a huge issue that it's only for rent and not sale. Renting is a waste of money!

    ahh yes you get more range in dual motor mode wtf? that got to be a mistake. if that is true then why would you ever use single motor mode?

      It’s not really similar demographics of riders the WW pro and Unagi voyager. Unagi riders love the power and portability of such as light scooter. -Vosk

    It is too feminine for me. Not just because of the small wheels but also the small wheelbase and deck, no suspension. Just not for me. Seems like a high quality teenager's scooter. Cheers !
