oh my goodness! the nonverbal cards at 0:33 are such a good idea. Immediately went to make a set for my friend. have a great day guys! drink some water!
i just finished them and called the friend, they loved it and were so happy with the idea! im happy with how they turned out :)
Amazing!đđ
I already have non verbal communication cards, buttons, and I always have my phone with me for my text to speech đ
I have a semi verbal autistic character in my book so I was researching it so I don't offend anyone, so I had my character use those cards.
BTW, Since I always get asked, no it's not published anywhere.
Iâm the friend đ»
OH WAIT so rolling your eyes doesnât literally mean rolling them?! How has no one told methis before?! WHAT? i did that all the time when I was little, I used to practice rolling my eyes so often lmao
Same đ
đđđ
WAIT IT'S NOT?
yeah i never practiced i just figured it out when i got told off for it and i was like oh. guess itâs just a funny name.
BRO SAME WTF IM PANICKING
I have ADHD, tourrettes, & social anxiety problems & I had a teacher who was so unaware of basic human emotions & mannerisms & so obsessed with always being a victim she repeatedly accused me of rolling my eyes at her even while I was standing in front of her, not doing it, & denying doing it & then she sent me to the office because her poor feelings couldn't a child disagreeing with her delusions.
I even told her I was just looking around because eye contact is extremely hard for me but she was too far into her baby fit to listen. I didn't even know just looking up diagonally was considered an eye roll until watching this video. That's dumb as hell. That's on par with the time I yawned in class & an insecure teacher got mad because my yawn just had to be a deliberate insult.
I don't know why this video came up when I searched "tommy wiseau water" but it was a good watch.
I think it came up because many ADHD people have trouble remembering to drink water, so that's how it's related.
âLetâs have our faces mushed together, it makes no senseâ
Finally someone agrees that that Is disgusting!!!
Oh my goodness, I've never seen anyone talking about the "rolling eyes" thing.
I also did the mirror thing!
And I also got in a LOT of arguments with my mom because I couldn't make eye contact and she'd accuse me of rolling my eyes at her.
Omg i really like those nonverbal cardsssss
I had the cookie experience yesterday. A friends mom was walking over with donut holes and I looked at them. I didn't want her to know I wanted them because I didn't want to be rude, but she was able to tell. Like girl, HOW?
As somebody with ADD I use to daydream as a kid in class but it wasn't my fault.
4:04 does anyone have the link?? I canât find it and I really wanna take the test
HOW DID IT TAKE SO LONG TO FIND OUT THAT THAT'S WHAT SOME PEOPLE CONSIDER EYE ROLLING!
No wonder so many people in school thought I was rude.
3:01 *triggered*
The fact that my parents used this against me in an argument.
6:47 Lmao I thought I was the only one who did the hairclip thing
definitely not only one :) I did this too, this clicky sound it makes is so cool ^^
I completely forgot I even did this until I saw that video. Hell, I'm pretty sure I rarely even wore the pins I had and just clicked them like that instead.
Nope. Was it the noise or the slightly-pinchy pressure/release/pressure pattern you liked?
â@@devlandiablo Can't remember for certain as I was really young when I was having that as a stim (I used to use hairclips, I don't anymore). The pressure/release/pressure thing stands out to me though.
Lmao that eye rolling one was relatable, I remember that happening once or twice. I'd like the sensation that happened when my eyes flicked upward, then my mum would get angry and accuse me of rolling my eyes when I didn't know what I was doing
Iâm looking into getting a dyspraxia diagnosis for myself, but Iâm scared that what Iâm experiencing is too linked to my other diagnoses (autism and ADHD) and isnât worth going to my doctor about. Should I just leave it or should I do more research?
You can always talk to your doctor about your concerns and see what he thinks. đđ
A lot of dys- abilities (dyspraxia, dyslexia, dyscalculia, etc) seem to just come included with ADHD/autism
If you are ND, you probably have multiple different types of ND comorbidities
Even if it's because of your ADHD/autism, you still probably have dyspraxia
So, what's one more diagnosis?
regarding the thumbnail - i watched something that said people with mental illnesses aren't neurodivergent because they can recover, get better and get back to how they were before, whereas truly neurodivergent people can't change that and it's just the way their brain is wired. thoughts?
also, i think a form of neurodivergence that is not often talked about is giftedness, not to be confused with just being smart/good at studies. gifted people often have overexcitabilities/intensities in different areas (look it up), and their brains just work different. in my personal experience, i show some symptoms of most forms of neurodivergence without actually fully having them.
Itâs a grey area. Bipolar disorder is classified as a mental illness. Yet it is something I was born with and alters the way my brain works. So most would consider it ND. I also have ADHD and OCD so i do have ND. I also have Cptsd. There are studies which show that repeated trauma causes the brain to be altered. Science doesnât know enough about how the brain works yet to say that only disorders we are born with can be truly ND. So that is why i donât think itâs fair to gatekeep, I also donât think a situational depression like a grief after someone passes would be a ND either. So it gets really muddy.
Apparently, neurodivergence is a type of mental disorder where the brain itself is actually different. For example, depression due to current circumstance isn't neurodivergence because the person's brain is typical but whatever they're going through right now is the thing resulting in "abnormal" behaviour. But most people including myself seem to just use it as a more friendly term for people with disorders.
Also, the difference between many mental disorders and just being neurotypical is _intensity,_ for your last point. I believe this is important for people to know. For example, the difference between being a normal person who feels anxiety sometimes and having an anxiety disorder is that people with anxiety disorders find it much easier to be in an incredibly anxious state, may be anxious in a constant basis, and have their anxiety strongly affect their day to day life. But both groups of people experience anxiety, but one is more severe. The difference between being cautious over spiders and having a phobia of spiders is that I could be worried over seeing a spider in the house as it might bite me but then I go sort the problem out in a reasonably calm way, whereas someone with a phobia might cry at the mere _picture_ of a spider. So both groups of people experience caution/fear of a spider, but one is more severe. So, neurotypical people are going to relate a little bit to neurodivergence (e.g. relating to being awkward, like autistic people are; relating to being procrastination-prone, like ADHD people) but they obviously don't have the same severity,
@@cantin8697 in fact depression is more of an hormonal imbalance, you are born with it and will live it all your life... so ehy wouldnt it be a neurodivergence?
You really can't make a full recovery from mental illness, though. It's usually either an ebb and flow in severity of symptoms, or you may be able to get it in remission with the chance of experiencing a relapse later in life. This is also why addiction is considered an illness (can't say whether mental or physiological) since people experience it in a similar manner.
So yes, mental illness is very much a form of neurodivergence, but it's like a square versus rectangle scenario, where all mental illness is neurodivergence, but not all neurodivergence is mental illness.
Your second point is absolutely correct, though. (This would've most likely gotten buried in my first reply, so I made another.)
Ok ok ok ok ok. I NEED to know if anyone else does this. Do you assign colors, personalities, shapes, or tastes to words, numbers, items, or thoughts? Hear me out, March is green, 3 is neon pink, left is thin, and the jumpy boots in Subway Surfers are evil. And I don't actively do this, it just happens. Does this happen with anyone else???
7:57 was great lmao.
also that one about meltdowns was very informative
wait... rolling your eyes ISN'T that???
NOBODY TOLD ME THIS
4:00
What test did they use omg I need it lmao
Itâs posted on my community posts
The first one is so relatable to me cuz like sometimes I will simply turn my eyes to look at something and it will look like rolling my eyes and this . Who sits next to me was like "omg why are you rolling your eyes" and I had to explain that I didn't mean anything bad
So you're telling me rolling your eyes doesn't mean rolling them?
OK it took me YEARS to figure out the eye rolling thing! I blame my taekwondo teacher for dramatizing how eye rolling works but that was like ten years before i figured out that the sides of the eye are optional...
The hairclip at 6:54 takes me back!
Lil question for all the peeps who have any psychotic condition or psychotic features with any mental illness, what was your first sign of realizing that you were losing touch w/ reality? I'll go first: i currently have mdd with psychotic features, Autism, gad, and Bipolar. And my first delusion was mild in a way. I believed that everywhere I go ppl were watching and judging me and that if I made eye contact w/ them they would be able to see into my soul and look at all my cringy and weird secrets. Yep...
Mine is when I feel like Iâm slipping back into something thatâs happened in the pastâŠâŠ like back into a deja view moment but not coming out of it? Like a flashback I supposeâŠ
Okay explaining all my f*cked up comorbidies:
âą OSDD(my previous diagnosis) shows up
âą C-PTSD is recognized
âą me & my therapist revisit my old OSDD diagnosis
âą turns out itâs DID
âą Autism???
âą ADHD & autism have been living in the basement and attic respectively
âą OCD is now living in my walls and iâm TRYING to pull them tf out
so yea OCD is more of a suspicion but iâm working with my therapist to get it diagnosed, DID & CPTSD is diagnosed, and AuDHD is a very high probability and my therapist thinks i have them both but i canât afford to get screened-
so yay!
~Q
When I was younger I heard the phrase ârolling your eyesâ and I assumed it was actually rolling your eyes. For years I practiced rolling my eyes, and when I finally got it I learned that people consider âlooking at the ceiling for a few secondsâ to be rolling your eyes.đ€Š
Annnddd Iâm going to make myself some communication cards.
Tw: hallucinations and generally bad mental health
So uhm Iâm starting to hallucinate again (a specific things that really terrifies me) and had the scariest nightmare Iâve ever had (I couldnât wake up and I still donât know if Iâm dreaming or not cause if it) and idk what to do, anyone got any advice (Iâll be talking with my therapist of Thursday donât worry yâall)
Iâm glad you will be seeing your therapist. Make sure you tell them how bad it is. Make sure you are getting a lot of sleep. (i get weird auditory things if i donât sleep enough) make sure you are eating and drinking enough. If you have meds make sure you are taking them properly. No illicit substances. (i donât know how old you are). even the green plant will make me have a psychosis so i donât do anything. If it gets too bad before then go to hospital. đđ
@@OneSpicyDisaster thank đ, substances scare me and Iâm underage, surprisingly I donât have any med :/ and Iâm trying with the sleep, when I posted that comment I couldnât will myself to go to bed, like I said really disturbing nightmare) I wound up sleeping 8am-4pm (really wish I hadnât slept all day ;/) anyway thank you đ
Heya! person with nightmare disorder/other parasomnia stuff here
Are they hallucinations right before/after sleep? if so theyre hypagogic and they are most likely not harmful at all (except stressful ofc haha), the second dream may be either sleep paralysis or lucid nightmare (i have those a _ton_ , not a fun experience)
The main recommendations I'd give would be to 1. indeed go to a doctor or therapist to speak about it, since everyone is different and its important to let professionals know 2. Keep regular sleeping times and go to bed on time, going to bed after 1 am rlly triggers em for me I've noticed. Maybe check out "sleep hygiene" and how to improve it and 3. It may seem impossible but try not to worry too much, nightmares and stuff are rarely a sign of smth more serious, and often it just means a poor sleep hygiene or excess stress
Hope it gets better soon! :)
okay so with the autism/eye contact thing, i really did not understand that eyes was the first instinctive thing that people looked at when they looked at another person. for so long i would make sure i was facing one way and looked another way with my eyes because i thought nobody would notice. they noticed. every time. i was so confused.
BRUH THE EYE ROLLING THING
That hairclip over the finger. I did exactly that yesterday after taking down my braids. I used to do that all the time as a kid. The tape also. I used to be a nail biter as well but I grew out of it. I'm still trying not to be a pen/pencil biter though. Because I bite my pencils still (not all of them) but damn. I used to do this one trick my granddad thought me with an elastic. Or other things. Probably my biggest issue as a child was wanting to see what would happend if I did certain things. I had intrusive thoughts as a child like: "Someone could steal that easily. Open the packet of beads. Empty it and then put the packet the furthest away and nobody could tell." or the worst one which ended up with my friend and I crying at each other: "What if I use the slap bracelet as a headband on my friend's head?" I ended up pulling on her hair accidentally and she cried thinking I did it on purpose but I had no intention to.
Rolling my eyes gives me a headache. Pretty ironic considering my profile pic. đ
I'm not nerodivergent but I appreciate you sharing theese so I better understand tysm!
ROLLING YOUR EYES _ISNT_ LITERALLY ROLLING THEM???
I'm pretty sure add isn't a diagnosis anymore
No itâs all ADHD
Yeah it most similar to ADHD inattentive type but I think weâre still getting it out of vocabulary.
Yeah it isnât, now itâs ADHD-PI (Primarly inattentive)
I don't think so. It's just ADHD. They can go into more terms though for a more in depth diagnosis, like ADHD, ADD, or combined.
â€ïžâ€ïž
Hiii!!!
hi!
my trauma made me multiple people:'D (I also don't remember anything from my younger childhood)
Psychosis- I crash here from time to time, and also, I broke a few things in the kitchen....brilliant
does anyone know where to make one of those wheels that nicole was using (around 3:50) bc i REALLY wanna make one now
Could someone post the link to the test about varying support needs, please?
www.idrlabs.com/autism-spectr
I'm sad I didn't see Dyscalculia on the thumbnail! It's in the same family as Dyslexia and Dysgraphia. I happen to have ASD and Dyscalculia. Anyone else out there have it? I've literally NEVER met anyone with it.
Anyone has a link to that test from soundoftheforest?
2:47
can i ask for the link of that autism test thing? I have adhd and im confused if im autistic, already autistic and if i need more support yk? ty !
Itâs on my community posts about a month agoâŠ. Sorry iâm just quick checking comments right now with a migraineđđđ
does anyone know the test she was talking about at 4:05?
That's rubbish I need the link I'm suspecting very heavily that I am neuro divergent and it's took till 42 for someone to pick up that I'm neuro divergent. I need more knowledge I need to get this diagnosis correct.
Iâm 42 as well! I just got diagnosed with Adhd and I highly suspect Iâm on the spectrum as well! I have been diagnosed with bipolar and OCD long ago as well as C-PTSD. Anxiety and Depression. I think all of those would be explained away with Autism though.
I have the link in my community tabs
Can someone please help me find the test that she mentioned at 4:00? /q
The link is posted on my community tab about a month ago đ
@@OneSpicyDisaster ok thank u âșïž
I deleted a bunch of posts so it should be easier to find đđ
Is misophonia considered a neurodivergency?
No.
Misophonia is not listed in any of the contemporary psychiatric classification systems. Some investigators have argued that misophonia should be regarded as a new mental disorder, falling within the spectrum of obsessive-compulsive related disorders.
I'd consider it more of a symptom of neurodivergence, but since it can be a disorder on its own with no accompanying diagnoses, I think there's a discussion to be had around that.
