    I have ADHD, tourrettes, & social anxiety problems & I had a teacher who was so unaware of basic human emotions & mannerisms & so obsessed with always being a victim she repeatedly accused me of rolling my eyes at her even while I was standing in front of her, not doing it, & denying doing it & then she sent me to the office because her poor feelings couldn't a child disagreeing with her delusions.
    I even told her I was just looking around because eye contact is extremely hard for me but she was too far into her baby fit to listen. I didn't even know just looking up diagonally was considered an eye roll until watching this video. That's dumb as hell. That's on par with the time I yawned in class & an insecure teacher got mad because my yawn just had to be a deliberate insult.
    I don't know why this video came up when I searched "tommy wiseau water" but it was a good watch.

      If you are ND, you probably have multiple different types of ND comorbidities
      Even if it's because of your ADHD/autism, you still probably have dyspraxia
      So, what's one more diagnosis?

  • @mash9415

    regarding the thumbnail - i watched something that said people with mental illnesses aren't neurodivergent because they can recover, get better and get back to how they were before, whereas truly neurodivergent people can't change that and it's just the way their brain is wired. thoughts?
    also, i think a form of neurodivergence that is not often talked about is giftedness, not to be confused with just being smart/good at studies. gifted people often have overexcitabilities/intensities in different areas (look it up), and their brains just work different. in my personal experience, i show some symptoms of most forms of neurodivergence without actually fully having them.

    • @OneSpicyDisaster
      @OneSpicyDisaster  Pƙed 2 lety +14

      It’s a grey area. Bipolar disorder is classified as a mental illness. Yet it is something I was born with and alters the way my brain works. So most would consider it ND. I also have ADHD and OCD so i do have ND. I also have Cptsd. There are studies which show that repeated trauma causes the brain to be altered. Science doesn’t know enough about how the brain works yet to say that only disorders we are born with can be truly ND. So that is why i don’t think it’s fair to gatekeep, I also don’t think a situational depression like a grief after someone passes would be a ND either. So it gets really muddy.

    • @cantin8697
      @cantin8697 Pƙed 2 lety +6

      Apparently, neurodivergence is a type of mental disorder where the brain itself is actually different. For example, depression due to current circumstance isn't neurodivergence because the person's brain is typical but whatever they're going through right now is the thing resulting in "abnormal" behaviour. But most people including myself seem to just use it as a more friendly term for people with disorders.
      Also, the difference between many mental disorders and just being neurotypical is _intensity,_ for your last point. I believe this is important for people to know. For example, the difference between being a normal person who feels anxiety sometimes and having an anxiety disorder is that people with anxiety disorders find it much easier to be in an incredibly anxious state, may be anxious in a constant basis, and have their anxiety strongly affect their day to day life. But both groups of people experience anxiety, but one is more severe. The difference between being cautious over spiders and having a phobia of spiders is that I could be worried over seeing a spider in the house as it might bite me but then I go sort the problem out in a reasonably calm way, whereas someone with a phobia might cry at the mere _picture_ of a spider. So both groups of people experience caution/fear of a spider, but one is more severe. So, neurotypical people are going to relate a little bit to neurodivergence (e.g. relating to being awkward, like autistic people are; relating to being procrastination-prone, like ADHD people) but they obviously don't have the same severity,

    • @draalttom844
      @draalttom844 Pƙed 2 lety +2

      @@cantin8697 in fact depression is more of an hormonal imbalance, you are born with it and will live it all your life... so ehy wouldnt it be a neurodivergence?

    • @paigemosher8697
      @paigemosher8697 Pƙed 2 lety +2

      You really can't make a full recovery from mental illness, though. It's usually either an ebb and flow in severity of symptoms, or you may be able to get it in remission with the chance of experiencing a relapse later in life. This is also why addiction is considered an illness (can't say whether mental or physiological) since people experience it in a similar manner.
      So yes, mental illness is very much a form of neurodivergence, but it's like a square versus rectangle scenario, where all mental illness is neurodivergence, but not all neurodivergence is mental illness.

I'll go first: i currently have mdd with psychotic features, Autism, gad, and Bipolar. And my first delusion was mild in a way. ‱ Autism???
    ‱ ADHD & autism have been living in the basement and attic respectively
    ‱ OCD is now living in my walls and i’m TRYING to pull them tf out

      Heya! person with nightmare disorder/other parasomnia stuff here
      Are they hallucinations right before/after sleep? if so theyre hypagogic and they are most likely not harmful at all (except stressful ofc haha), the second dream may be either sleep paralysis or lucid nightmare (i have those a _ton_ , not a fun experience)
      The main recommendations I'd give would be to 1. indeed go to a doctor or therapist to speak about it, since everyone is different and its important to let professionals know 2. Keep regular sleeping times and go to bed on time, going to bed after 1 am rlly triggers em for me I've noticed. Maybe check out "sleep hygiene" and how to improve it and 3. It may seem impossible but try not to worry too much, nightmares and stuff are rarely a sign of smth more serious, and often it just means a poor sleep hygiene or excess stress
      Hope it gets better soon! :)

    That hairclip over the finger. I did exactly that yesterday after taking down my braids. I used to do that all the time as a kid. The tape also. I used to be a nail biter as well but I grew out of it. I'm still trying not to be a pen/pencil biter though. Because I bite my pencils still (not all of them) but damn. I used to do this one trick my granddad thought me with an elastic. Or other things. Probably my biggest issue as a child was wanting to see what would happend if I did certain things. I had intrusive thoughts as a child like: "Someone could steal that easily. Open the packet of beads. Empty it and then put the packet the furthest away and nobody could tell." or the worst one which ended up with my friend and I crying at each other: "What if I use the slap bracelet as a headband on my friend's head?" I ended up pulling on her hair accidentally and she cried thinking I did it on purpose but I had no intention to.
