That's like the arrow next to the picture of a gas pump on your dashboard tells you which side of the car the filler opening is. The people who came up with it thought it was obvious, and yet people are still just now discovering it.

I was today years old minus quite a few years when I discovered that "fire" meaning to take away someone's job came from a synonym of the older term "discharge" with the same meaning.
Also when I realized that when the Beatles sang about "Mean Mr Mustard", they weren't saying he was cruel. "Mean" in British English just means "cheap" or "stingy".

01:52 Regarding our wine cask units, I've heard it said that the Firkin quantity is often described in twos; e.g. it's two firkin long, two firkin big, two firkin heavy etc. Not my joke, but it still amuses me 😉

The one about the measles is both "Oh Wow, that's incredible!" and "Oh wow, that's terrifying." at the same time. 😲😧
And, tbf, from looking it up for myself, it looks like this research just came out in October 2019, so most of us were probably "today years old" when we learned it.

Here's another math fact. There is more than one type of multiplication. The dot, X and * actually each mean something else. When you aren't doing the kind of math that uses them (vector calculus mostly) you can typically use them interchangeably but, they don't actually mean the same thing.

Some of these are things I didn't know cause I just don't care about those things. (I don't follow sports so don't care who owns teams, don't want to pay quadruple the price for an iphone so I don't care about the few cute extras as they aren't worth the $ to me, have never & will never care about twitter so I never wondered where the name came from, etc.) However out of the other trivia, I did learn something new! I now know "buttload" is an actual measurement. It looks like a "butt" is pretty huge compared to a standard "barrel" & I doubt I'll ever have that much wine in my whole life since I don't like the taste of alcohol & only use wine occasionally in a sauce, but hey it's good to know more precisely what I'm saying when I use the word. I will now be looking for more opportunities to use it in conversation. 🤣

And because of the advent of the internet more people than ever have the ability to look up information and educate themselves. Now I hope you use this opportunity to not generalize people based on select ones.
