This franchise is one of maybe 3 or so that have not reached the Stanley Cup Final since 1967...never mind winning it...this is unbelievable

Tavares has been a workhorse his entire career. One day he'll be in the Hockey Hall of Fame, without winning a Cup.
Not guaranteed. Mogilny is not in the Hall.

It's not your fault JT. You found lots of open ice in the offensive zone this year and the puck barely came to your stick for setups and when it did you played the puck as if you were surprised to get it a lot of times. It must be tough to get good reads when you never know when your chance is coming. A lot of your goals were from loose pucks which is a very positive sign, but unfortunately you are on a team that prioritizes other players puting the puck in then net first. You should have been in the bumper spot all season because you have a great shot, but this coaching staff doesn't optimize your total game.
Completely agree. That's why I liked Tavares and Marner together. Marner is a great set up man and Tavares is a good finisher.

I actually hope Tavares stays but signs a cheap hometown discount deal, and hands off the C this summer (or next) to Matthews.
I agree, except for Matthews being captain. He has no captain qualities at all.
Matthews would get a cale makar or an adam fox. Things the leafs need! Not ilya libushkin and brodie hasnt looked much better this season. Giordano, hes near hangin up the jersey.

Keep Tavares for the 3rd or 4th line with a hometown minimum contract.
I'd give him 3 million a season for 3rd line if he wants to retire at the end give him a 4 year at 2.5 each his numbers are still good

Big leafs fan here, I’ve been on their side for most of my life. This team is not built to win. Win games during the season? Yes. Sell tickets? Yes. They’re looking closer to what they need to be, mostly because of some key additions, BUT the core, is not scoring in the off season and JT and Marner are not producing for the amount of money they’re making. Our “fan currency” is bankrupt. Big changes need to happen while maintaining some of this team. I hate to slam on these guys cause hey, they’re human. But that being said, they’re paid more than the above average person to play a game a certain way. And it just isn’t working out. I won’t cheer for any other team. Boston Pizza can suck it. Go leafs.

I can't say enough about JT. True professional. Overpaid, sure. But a solid player. Hit like a manic this series against Boston. Whatever happens, I wish him well.

Long time leafs fan. I say this! There needs to be trades that affect this. Regardless of the captain, or the core, or the bad bounce or what have you! Schenn, O'rilley, Accari all walked last year. We got nothing for them. Simmonds was not asked to return. Sam Lafferty got traded! Lol all that talent, and heres the result 😂! Instead of building a "Regular season, High scoring( oh wait a minute, that was last year) low scoring, gritty- ish team, how bout we get rid of Brad, Keefe, and Treliving Shanaplan, and hire someone that A, wants to trade matthews and pick up a player as good that stands his ground. B wants a Defence first team. C HIRE AN ACTUAL FUCKIN PLAYOFF WORTHY GOALIE, and D. Base it on a "you work and compete, Or, You dont play" operation! No disrespect to matthews, but we only won 1 game this series with him. Not only that, he doesnt defend his team, a scrum happens he runs away or just stands there like a pussy. 69 goals so what! You're clueless. Brad just got here and did what he could. There's alot of players coming off the books this year. Let's see what will happen. It's not exactly easy to just sign high quality players, regardless of position. 1. They have to want to play here. 2. They have to be available to sign. 3. They have to be priced right.
The 1 thing Brad did that really pissed me off was signing Nylander to that ridiculous new contract. He could have traded Nylander for some great assets. Nylander's value will never be higher then it was BEFORE he signed the new contract.
Agreed, agreed, and agreed. Nylander should of been gone, that should of been a doug hamilton trade. I like Domi and Bertuzzi, however the first 3/4 of the season wadnt too hot for either one of em. Trading lafferty was completely stupid on brads part. Letting the few walk was dumb, especially when they could of got something good for the 3. Luke schenn should of been signed. Other than fights, i really didnt see a big reward from reaves. The 4th line was soo bad for the better part of the year. Samsonov was terrible first 3/4 of the season. Yea. Brad is terrible at his job. I dont think Kyle Dubas was any worst honestly. I think keef should be gone, brad gone, and shanahan gone. Then we might get someone who could be worst, or better. However, im honestly just about done with the hockey nonsense.

Players always go ON AND ON about pressure in Toronto. I'm sorry, but imagine you were a footballer in England, Germany or Spain. IMAGINE the criticism you would be getting in that situation. What hockey players go through here is nothing compared to that. These guys need some perespective. I don't see protesting or rioting in the streets calling for members of management or players to go. The verbal criticism isn't even anywhere near as harsh. At least Tavares is smart enough not to complain. Other guys however... not a good look. The Leafs better clear out the cupboard this offseason.

Sorry, John Tavares needs to step down and forfeit the captaincy. Not because he is a bad captain, but because it is time for a change. John is on the decline in both skill and production and it is unfortunate that his high salary makes him unattractive for a trade to other teams. Leafs are stuck with his high salary until his contract is over. He should not be resigned. There is a younger, better, and more affordable 2nd line center out there.
1. Nobody would be better as captain on this team. 2. There aren't alot of great players put there that are available. 3. Even if there was, it's very doubtful that they'd even consider coming to Toronto because of the stupidity of so called "fans", like yourself. Nobody wants or needs to be criticized, especially from couch coaches and keyboard warriors that have no clue what they're talking about or how it feels to be at this level.

In a series where scoring one more goal was the difference, JT's 2 points in 7 games and Marner's 3 points in 7 games is the reason they didn't advance.
Really? Matthews and Nylander also had 3 each. So your comment makes no sense. Atleast Tavares and Marner didn't sit out for several games due to a headache or stomach ache. Marner wasn't even 100% healthy yet still played.

@MosquitoMurderer I think that there's jealousy between Matthews and Nylander. Not only through the regular season but think of how it played out in the playoffs. Nylander out, comes back and Matthews leaves the game? Something definitely fishy. The problem with both is that they need someone like Knies, Domi or Marner to set them up.
