The Lexus That The Dealership Couldn't Fix is Finished! I'm Sad and Happy at The Same Time

- We discussed the story of this 1994 Lexus ES300 that the dealership and a few other shops couldn't fix. Now it's the day before delivery back to the owner as the car is 100% fixed and it's making me a bit sad.
This car has been in the shop for close to 4 months and through all the work we put into getting back to running well I truly have grown fond of it and while i'm happy that it's going back to it's owners who are very happy and excited to get it back and running well, I will miss it dearly because it's truly a special car in exceptional shape.

I just inherited a 1997 ES300 with 66,000 miles from my aunt. She's tired of paying insurance on a vehicle she doesn't even drive. So, she gave it to me.
You're BLESSED. I own one as well. Take care of it, and yourself.
take care of that car. make sure you do maintenance when needed and change the oil on time. it will last you 6 times the miles on it right now.
Wish every mechanic was dedicated as you are!! I think I may as well an ls430…
Amen. The dedication is to be commended.
💯 I Agreed...👍
It s hard to be as dedicated when you re not paid enough. I love to diy my car but would not want to be a full time mechanic.
@@MsHaiducu indeed! Time is money. But due to his dedication and way of presenting the information he managed to built such a great channel with 1m loyal subscribers
Yeah, like money is priority dedication. LOL!
Job well done. I have not seen anyone else take more pride in their work than you. 🙌🏻
Exactly... fixing a customer's car and feel so happy! Wish Ahmad is near me!
You would hope a doctor has.
That ES300 in that color is one of my favorite cars. Classic lines. Just beautiful.
Love that 2 tone
Pearl White I think it is called.
AMD, Congratulations to the owner who put his faith in TCCN. As I always say - For All Your Toyota, Lexus & Scion Repairs, Make TCCN Automotive Your First Choice in Last Resorts® 😉🤣
Or, the 1st go-to place.
Yeah, don’t waste time and go there first and avoid all kinds of shenanigans.
AMD, I was so pleased that you like the "Top Creeper" I sent to you. I got a big smile when you showed. I hope it serves you well and makes working in the engine bay easier.
Hey that was nice gesture sir ,he deserves it , I want to thank you!
@@jansenwilliams6494Sir? did you bother looking at my picture? Definitely not a sir
That 1994 car will last longer than any new car today.
Yes, but only because they stopped making Lincoln Town Cars back in 2013. 😁
Much, much nicer.. as the old saying goes, they don't make em' like they used to.
It’s only running now because AMD took the time and is skilled enough to keep it running.
At 12:50 it’s suprised me that the trunk lid did not go down to bumper level, considering the original (Camry based) ES250 had the trunk lid go down to the bumper level.
@@themidcentrist that's a shame. The 4.6s are indestructible.
Love how you said you wouldn't give name of the manufacturer of the aftermarket idle air controller, but flashed the name three times(7:47)in upper left hand corner. Priceless.
An ES 300 with 74k miles is a great find. Great job CCN.
As long as it didn't sit for a long time & dry rot
I have 2000 model with 45.6K mile on it but not as pristine looks as in video
The absolute BEST car I ever owned was my wife's 1995 Lexus es300. "WOW" what a car. She bought it from a used car dealership with 90k on it. I was very skeptical at first and advertised against the purchase; However, after a brief test drive and a pretest smog check (I live in California). We decided to buy it. I still recall every morning hearing her start it up and drive off to work. Well this went on for year after year after year....I often recall saying to myself "Wow, is that car ever going to break down". Well, year after year turned into 12 years and 110 thousand miles later...I kid you not.. Absolutely NOTHING BROKE..All the maintenance I did myself. One brake job, oil changes, one Axel, air filter, tires and coolant flush. I eventually sold the car to my friend and he finally changed the timing belt. I later learned the car was destroyed in an accident.
Our shop just serviced a 2005 Chevy Avalanche. Vehicle owner installed an aftermarket MAF from Orielly 6 times over a period of a year. We chose the GM OEM part and that solved his problems. You’re only saving money for the pain medication you’ll be taking for using that cheaply priced/manufactured part. Listen to AMD, he’s taking the time to educate his followers. 👍🏼
6 times the fake isn't it more than the genuine one
Well, I mean, the original failed once and as far as the owner knows it would fail 5 more times too. ;)
@@geoepi321975usually they have a limited warranty so they probably got replaced for free.
Well if you buy a maf sensor after 10years its an upgraded part from oem
"The poor quality remains long after the cheap price is forgotten." -my Father
These were the cars I loved when I got started in the automotive industry as a painter back in the late 90’s…
Love seeing a fellow technician dedicate themselves to a car. Even if it isn’t his or hers very own. Taking pride in your work is sooo important in this field. Even when things get challenging, the final moments of fixing something right and sending it off to a happy client makes it all worth it. Love watching this channel and the work you do!
Is anyone else super impressed with how organized and clean his shop is. Mad respect.
Thats fantastic! “Nothing is unfixable” is so true. I can imagine many nights you lay in bed running thing’s possible through your head.
he technically lucked out finding out new in box MAF. That said, he could try to search for a used one from a wrecker.
My mechanic's version of this is "I can do anything you want if you have the time and the money" (usually in relation to proposed performance mods) . Dealerships are not the place for other than routine services.
It would have been unfixable if he had not been able to find those vital parts.
Good for another 300k to 400k miles 👍.
Well the original parts became defective after 75k miles, so probably not.
Happy to see the old solid ways of patience, persistence, focus, hard work, and caring about one's work.
Man this gentleman should win an award for best mechanic of the year, he's truly genuine. I truly appreciate his work ethics and honesty.
Hey absolutely love the old Lexus😊 incredibly reliable 😊
when a master technician doesn't want the car to leave, that is called true passion. That's why this man is so good at what he does. outstanding
Exact same car I owned when I was 19 years old. I paid $19k for a 2 year old Coach Edition straight from a Lexus dealership. Best car I ever owned, by far!
I admire you and your conviction. This mechanical resurection video is also posted on Easter Sunday. What a coincidence ....or perhaps a purposeful act. God bless a mechanic like you. Fact is cars have become overly complicated. This happened as a result of pursuit of fuel efficiency. There are now too many parts, too many complicated mechanisms and diagnosis and repair can frequently be a nightmare or nearly impossible. Thanks for saving this beauty. Mid 1990s Lexus ES300 can still be seen quite often on the highways in California and Nevada where I live.
I have a '93 Chevy Camaro Z28 that spent almost seven months at an "old-school" mechanic shop that was determined to fix a backfiring issue. I originally took it into a local shop near me to do a tune-up since it had a slight idle and hesitation problem. After replacing the spark plugs and wires with brand new ACDelco ones, it didn't fix the issue. Then they literally replaced every ignition and fuel system parts with new GM/ACDelco parts, except for the fuel pump and the optispark distributor, which were both discontinued. The optispark was replaced with an ACDelco remanufactured one, and the fuel pump was replaced with a new Delphi aftermarket. The idle and hesitation went away, but then the car began backfiring when you apply half throttle to wide open throttle. At this point I already sunk a butt-load of money into the car. I took it to another mechanic I knew, who recommended that I take it to an old-school Ford/Chevy mechanic that he knew in a small podunk town about 50 miles away from me. I told the guy, that there was no rush, and the mechanic originally spent about three weeks working on it on/off, and finally concluded that it was a bad fuel pump and replaced it with a Carquest Premium pump. Not five miles down the road, after picking the car up from the shop, the car was still backfiring, so I immediately turned around and dropped it back off. I told the mechanic to take his time and for the next six months, the guy worked on/off on it. Any test you can think of, compression test, leakdown test, fuel pressure test, etc., he performed it. At that point, we kind of narrowed it down to one thing. The remanned optispark. Unlike other traditional distributor cap and rotors, the optispark distributor is non-adjustable for timing. We didn't originally want to delve into it since one, it was already replaced, and two, the thing is a pain in the ass to get to, since you have to remove the radiator fan shroud, the water pump, the drive belt, and the harmonic balancer, just to get to optispark. I mean it was already replaced with a part remanufactured by ACDelco, why shouldn't it work? We finally decided to replace it with a new Summit Racing aftermarket optispark, and lo and behold, the backfiring went away. It goes to show you that even first-party remanned parts are bad out of the box, just as much as you can get a bad brand new part. But the mechanic was pretty determined to find out and fix what was wrong, and even though his shop is 50 miles away, he gained a repeat customer because of that.
Your dedication touched a nerve! I'm actually a BMW guy but subscribed, Thank you for your dedication to both old and new without "putting down" the classic tech. Looking forward to more stories like this one!
AMD and Peter of Toyota Maintenance are on the same page. Two top blokes.
Thank you for saving this es300 AMD!❤
I've got my '99 ES rolling to 247K miles.
Needs a whole timing belt job, new transmission speed sensor, new brake booster, new valve cover gaskets.
After that I should be good for 10 more years.
I love your honesty and channel. I don’t own a Toyota but have a 2004 Honda Element and they too absolutely dislike aftermarket parts! Thanks for your video and may God keep and watch over you and your family.
There isn't anything that likes aftermarket parts. ALL aftermarket parts for ALL makes for ALL brands are to be avoided at all costs
What a gorgeous vehicle.
This guy and his crew are gold. ❤
And that's why you're a master tech. And a successful one at that. Wish the world had more ppl like you with honesty and dedication.
That ES is mint, so worth saving. That customer was so lucky to find your shop. I also love searching for parts. It’s a triumphant feeling when you finally get the right one. Your customer is going to be so happy. Great job!
If every worker put that much effort in what they do, it would be Heaven on earth.
...and a paradise for the capitalist class that pushes junk that breaks down on consumers.
GX with the head gasket leak. AMD is so trustworthy that I bought into it for a second.
That was funny! 😂
Keep 'em running!
My first day working at Lexus of Kedron in Brisbane back in 1993 , I was 22 yrs old and they gave me a brand new ES300 as I was doing customer service pick up, I was crapping myself as OMG ,I drove this for a few months as we changed them over every 5000klms , it was a privilege .
If I was the customer, I’d be impressed with a 4 month turn around. Exceptional job
Nice. I had a 93. I bought it used and abused. It drove great. It did have an oil leak. Passenger power windows became a problem. Head gasket was now an issue. And it ended up at the graveyard. I can imagine a good running car will give comfort and appreciation…
I love the old Lexus. I sold a 1995 SC300 last year with 203k miles. It idled and ran like new. Very little maintenance needed. Great car.
Why?
Congratulations. This was a testament to your dedication as a professional master mechanic.
Jimmy and daisy dog mobile mechanic here! Just. Fixed a 300 es lexus for a neighbor. RTs ate up 11 wires and a multitude of issues. Fixed up for him and he's so happy! Rebuilt his fuel injectors, new intak manifold gaskets, tranny service coolant system, charging system rewired ,tons of maintenance issues, made it like new.hes so happy.takes a brain old school and dedication.love your videos God bless
AMD [looking at LX470] "This is one of my favourite colours."
Me [looking at AMD's shop walls] "You don't say."
Joking aside, great work on saving the ES300 from the scrap yard - the owner should be very happy.
I watch each & every video. I really like listening to your thought processes in figuring out a fix for problems.
Wow. This guy is at a different level.
As a technician in another life, now a driveway mechanic, parts availability for these older cars has become a real issue. Things like a simple IAC valve, would never imagine would be an issue to find. Even things as simple as a windshield are getting hard to find sometimes, and these are things I never imagined would happen with my vehicles 20 years ago. I horde parts, especially when they come on clearance and are a good name part, especially if it is an OEM maker of the part. Just in case.
Parts are getting way more expensive, my 1996 Camry with the 2.2 needs new oil pump gasket and seal, I figured while I was in there, I would do the timing belt, water pump, crankshaft, camshaft seal, and thermostat. $200 Canadian for the seals (cranksaft seal on back order). Dealer wanted $100.00 for oem thermostat. Sourced that one out of the states for $50.00 including shipping. Ordered timing belt kit from Amazon was good deal for under $200.00. TKT-200 kit
ITs an antique approaching 30 years old. It's the same as working on something in 1994 that was manufactured in the 60's. 15 or so years on a car, then the parts start to drop off as the cars on the road start to drop off.
Im an older guy and its great to see someone with passion, honesty and dedication to their trade! A not so common thing these days. Not to mention ...love seeing these solid, old cars brought back to life.
Gorgeous 90s Lexus. Very nostalgic, another one saved AMD well done.❤
You worked on this car as if it was your own. That's what makes TCCN stand out from all the other mechanics out there. 👍👍👍👍👍💯
I'm glad that you actually filmed the finish product. Most show only give you problems but never show the finished product.
I’m happy that you have the privilege to review Lexus products for us!! Will be better for everyone and especially your business!!
I wish I could take my cars to your shop. This video really demonstrates your passion for Toyota/Lexus. I used to have a 87 Celica GT Liftback that most shops wouldn’t give the time of day. Despite it having less than 100k miles (I got it with 54k miles in 2009) and being extremely clean. Thank you for all that you do.
I am not even a car nut and I watch your videos. You are a gem of mechanic and person.
My dad had a 1993 since new (same one, same colors, only rims were the trident OEMs ones, dual pipe exhaust, a beauty, a symphony), one of my best childhood memories were with that car. Then I bought 1998 ES300 champagne grey on top, dark gray bottom, everything as the 1993 one but improved, the platinum edition with AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension) which I kept until 2018 (Yeap my sweetheart, for 20 years), now with a 2019 Highlander... But his highlander XLE is almost like having a high ES with AWD, power, reliability, comfort, ready for another 20 years. Great videos Car Care Nut Channel, love your honest, responsible and deep focusing tutorials. Share same passion with you. God bless you as well and please continue making these wonderful and very helpful videos.
He’s a real nut for car care folks
Thank you and have yourself a wonderful day
What this man did is just beautiful
Dude I have this car. Seeing a video for a mechanic reviewing it makes my life complete lol ❤
Great video, thanks for your dedication. I had a 2001 ES 300 in this color combination which I drove for 12 years. I now have a LS 430 along with 2 RX 350s. Great reliable cars.
It speaks volumes about the automotive industry when the 1994 ES300 still runs perfectly without leaks, requiring only minor repairs while the 2017 RX350 has the engine out for repairs. Long live the 90s Japanese products!
I remember the company president had this same car. I always admired it when I'd walk pass it in the parking garage. Not a huge fan of two-tone paint jobs, but there's something about this Lexus that works. Good job saving it!
I used junk yard parts to replace a 91 truck MAF sensor. $1000 at dealer and $100 at junk yard …. Worked great.
It does my heart good to see you a caring repair man 1,000 points we learn much from you thanks. John Morin Milo, Maine
Love my 93 es300. 201k miles and has gotten me through college
Many car dealers er stealers dont have 2 percent of your kindness, knowledge and dedication. THANK YOU!!!
That thing is cherry. Kudos on getting it completed.
I completely understand you when you look with so much love at the cars that cross the threshold of your service. Today I went for a drive with my 2007 Avensis and I was looking at her and actually I couldn't part with it because it brings me so much joy and beautiful moments. Show us the Supra project, otherwise I'm looking forward to the next video.
I love listening to your understanding of the systems in the cars you work on.👍
This is why I’m subscribed. Thank you for taking on challenges and sharing.
Well done!
That’s true workmanship!
👍👍👍😁
🎉🎉 honest guy. no unnecessary repairs. approaches diagnosis like Sherlock Holmes
I have had battery drain issues on my Toyota for years, and the dealer cannot find the root cause. Finally, the issue was fixed after I replaced the starter.
What a wonderful passion you have! You sir are a one of a kind!
Thank you for taking part of your time (and we can see how busy your shop is) to make these videos.
Congrats on exceeding 1 Million Subscribers!! I love the level of detail that you go through on these Lexus and Toyota vehicles.
Congrats on a job well done by the TCCN team. Very happy for you guys and the owner of this beautiful ES. Happy Easter AMD!
Great job AMD. Thank you for your patience and your due diligence in finding out exactly what cause the problem with the beautiful Lexus ES 300. You are indeed a mechanic that is in pursuit of perfection. Nothing ever leaves your shop without you combing though all possible issues.
I was listening to you talk about the car and how it became a mission for you and your team to fix it. ❤ You also are very aware of the engine that you’re working on. Thank you and happy Easter
Love the Lexus final update followed by a shop update! Great video.
Your passion for cars is incredible!
The topside creeper is what I was saying you needed early on. I use it for working on my land cruiser and tundra and it saves my back big time.
That is a beautiful car and the owner should be happy to have found such a talented technician like yourself who appreciates it as well. I hope you sleep well every night because I believe you deserve that for your dedication to your customers.
Thank you for fixing the ES300. I hope they get to enjoy it for a long time.
I love the passion you bring to your work and the attitude of striving for excellence. That is such a rare commodity these days. Great review of the ES300 project.
your dedication and mindset towards borderline MECHANIC of how something works IS AMAZING im learning so much , and greatful you exist because i wouldnt have had any knowledge about things in depth like the way you presenet videos
You have to love the car not just know how to fix them and know what a good replacement part looks like, i appreciate your skill and that you share it with us!
Don’t stop what you’re doing! You’re an amazing mechanic!
Such a gorgeous car, thanks for putting in the time and effort to save it.
I wish I live close to your shop, great mechanic and honest.
I dont know anything about cars, but after watching this I`m both impressed and sad and happy.
Car owner is going to be very Happy. Nice job.
I love the shop tour at the end!! Thank you for bringing that back, so great to see:) May the Lord bless and keep you as well!
I appreciate your commitment to fixing this Lexus the right way. Spending the time researching to get the NOS parts to make it run. Great job👍
You saved a good car.
Thanks for taking the time to keep it on the road. Congratulations to the owner, can only imagine your smile when you go drive your machine.
Just Amazing care and dedication!! Taking care of customers like you would care for your own cars.
Best vid I've seen you do. Thoroughly enjoyed it, thank you.
I have a 2000 es300, purchased in January with 103k miles, so watching your journey with this 94 is very interesting to me! Before I bought it, I knew very little about Lexus and Toyota, but it’s a beautiful car and I found your channel right after I bought it and was very happy to see it’s a classic! I live in Ohio and would seriously consider driving to you for any serious mechanical work!
Once again a beautiful story with a very happy ending. Wow that car was 30 years old and looks beautiful. The year my niece was born and now she is a dentist. Brings back a flood of happy memories and how fast time goes by.
Your shop progress video's are even more interesting then the Vehicle Reviews ! Great job AMD on that 1994 ES 300. Showing why your shop can get the job done when dealers have no patience for keeping older vehicles on the road.
Ahmed, I feel the about the color of the Lexus ( which is the focus of this video) with pure love, in the same exact way that you feel about the large SUV color you spoke about. It's such a classy looking 2 tone with that silvery bottom color under the off white upper. They had the same paint combo available on Camry's of that time period, and they were very popular here in RI and Ma. I almost bought a 2000 Camry in that color, but I detested how the used car dealer treated me, and never found another.
I am so so sad that you are not in my state! Your knowledge and dedication for repairing vehicles is Truly Amazing! God Bless the Car Care Nut!
Amazing growth . I have watched you sincegreat you did repairs inside your home garage. You are well deserving of your great success. keep up the good work and videos.
Gosh I love this guys work ethic, subscribed! Gorgeous 300 too!
