    The main reason I watch these is cause it's a dream to see a mechanic so dedicated on doing the job right. Hard to find a mechanic who would either know how to do it right or even take the time to do it. Thanks for showing this cause I replaced the original motor on my older Toyota and realize I probably messed up the jam protection and auto roll up.

    Those threads are left uncut from the factory for a reason, very common actually, as the screws are made to cut their own thread so it’s tight on the screws and doesn’t rattle loose over the years, also hence the soft metal (think of it as a form of “loc-tite”. A lot of my snowmobile components are like that being extreme vibration and lesser chance of the fasteners comings out)

    I believe the screws are designed to make threads in that soft pot metal when installed. I ran into the same thing when installing a new side mirror on a BMW. The screws go in very hard the first time due to lack of threads, but make a nice thread even though they don't look like a self-tapping screw.

      Pot metal is a soft, malleable metal. I think the intent of the design is for the material to be compressed outward by the screw, rather than removing material with a tap, resulting in very weak threads.

Many years ago I replaced front and rear lenses, front grille and emblem, some door parts to both doors, front suspension parts and other items. They all helped the truck go longer, but after several more years then at 30 total years with me and it's last smog test a failure, it was time to go.
    In 2020 I got the RAV4. It's a joy to drive.
    Thank you AMD for the engine coolant removal/replacement AND how to verify it's done correctly. It worked so easy!
    This year is the 8 speed automatic transmission fluid change using your instructions. However I think my XTOOL D8BT will help with that job. Your recommendation was why I bought it.

    • @konstantinaleksiev6671
      @konstantinaleksiev6671 Před 2 měsíci

      I have seen self-tappers a lot in plastic, aluminum or magnesium in the automotive , however special screws are used in that case. They should be not a metric screw with non-symmetric thread profile.

    • @gillpratt
      @gillpratt Před 2 měsíci

      @@konstantinaleksiev6671 A quick search online of "Window Motor Lift Self Tapping" shows that the part was likely not defective, and most replacement lift motors expect self tapping screws. The problem is that the original screws were not self tapping and new self tapping screws were not provided. Perhaps later model cars that used the same lift motor used self tapping screws. Maybe there is a note somewhere saying that if you order a new motor for this model car you should order new screws also.

    I agree with you. The vapor seal is important and should be replaced. I always say, “the engineer put it there for a good reason”.

    The key you found was not broken they were originally presented in a credit card format which started with the first LS 400.I have an hideway for my valet key after locking my keys in the boot some years ago.The best spot is in the bung space forward of the rear wheel arch on a magnetic cord inside the chassis,easy to get to and safe from the elements.

    I love this channel! I did this repair last year on my 2005 Tundra Limited. I took the easy way out and bought an entire aftermarket assembly. I spent more time trying to line up the plastic door panel clips than I did replacing the entire assembly. I also unfortunately used Gorilla Tape to hold up the window. What a pain getting the residue off the glass.

    I'm just an old lady that enjoys watching a man work on cars. One thing I'll be picky about is..... did you vacuum the broken glass out of the door? You probably did, but it wasn't on camera.
    I like watching you because it's REAL, real issues to handle. Thanks!

    You could use a clamp on the window gear before removing the motor to hold the gear spring in position. On those interior bolts that may come loose, that is where I would use lock tight.

    Something interesting regarding progress in design of automotive doors, some new cars have a very large opening in the inner doors skin to allow for a large one piece cassette to be installed, that has the window, window motor/regulator mechanism etc, pre-mounted on the cassette. This makes it very easy to work on or install at the factory. Beats having to work through such small opening’s in the door. If you need to work on anything inside the door, you just remove the whole door cassette, lay it on your workbench and there is everything laid out right in front of you…..

    • @maxpool162
      @maxpool162 Před 2 měsíci

      I would not say it is a new design though, it has been like that at least in Audi 100 C3 from 1982, basically inner part of the door with glass, regulator, runners and upper window frame was bolted to the door frame as one unit.

    You definitely a great Master Mechanic. Have you ever get a chance doing a review with the one of the most hidden gem that Lexus ever made, the SC430. This car is a timeless car that will be eventually a collector's item in my opinion. If you don't mind to do a review on this car? I cannot wait for you to do it, as I know you very good at it because you are very honest and tell people about the good and the bad about any cars, specially for those cars that you've been previously reviewed.

    So even Lexus parts can have problems. I tried making some stainless steel exhaust manifold studs from scratch and had to chase the hole threads. Using thread cutting lube helps. It's a pleasure to watch you work and not cut corners.

    Ahmed, I noticed , or at least I didn't see you moving a nice thick workman's knee pad around on the floor during the extended amount of time you were on your knees. I hope that you are actually using one when on your knees. I just retired from a job where I spent a lot of time servicing low shelving, and always used knee cushions. I have no knee problems yet , and I want the same for you, because you deserve it.

    I think you'll find that the 3 motor mounting screws are meant to be self tappers and cut their own thread so there is less likelihood of them working loose with vibration.

    There is NOTHING wrong with the motor part! You're supposed to make thread in the window motor by screwing it in the soft Aluminum. It's a one time-only type deal so that the motor never comes lose.
