This project started with a total impulse buy from @dougdemuro's @carsandbids and everything went off the rails from there! I am determined to restore this @lexus LS430 to it's former glory. Taking it back to the pursuit of perfection that birthed it and beyond!

The main reason I watch these is cause it's a dream to see a mechanic so dedicated on doing the job right. Hard to find a mechanic who would either know how to do it right or even take the time to do it. Thanks for showing this cause I replaced the original motor on my older Toyota and realize I probably messed up the jam protection and auto roll up.
It's really common, my car has the same issue, I checked, yep aftermarket glass. Googled it for my specific car model and yeah, so many people asking, why does my window roll back down halfway lmao.
Vapor barrier is showing
@@rickzech6490 yeah I noticed that tiny sliver too 😂 I was like this is gonna kill him on the inside and he's going to have to rebuild the entire car from scratch
I agree 110%. God Bless Mr. and Mrs. Car Care Nut 😇 We forgive you about the key....you're a very busy guy. 😂
Well he won’t get you right this 🤡 tells you put the timing line up on tha T when it’s the line and these cares are interference engines
Congratulations on the ONE Million Subscribers. I've been with you since your time in the home garage in the 'good old days'. All the Best in the Future~!
Yep and his Quick Jack made me research them and I got me one! Love that thing!!!
Same here
That project has not been a piece of cake but no apology is needed. It has been like a good movie, you want to see the ending but not yet. 😊😊
Those threads are left uncut from the factory for a reason, very common actually, as the screws are made to cut their own thread so it’s tight on the screws and doesn’t rattle loose over the years, also hence the soft metal (think of it as a form of “loc-tite”. A lot of my snowmobile components are like that being extreme vibration and lesser chance of the fasteners comings out)
there you go! I am surprised Amd didn't know that.
This is genius, thank you for giving your knowledge on this.
Yes, I was going to say this.
Was looking for a comment like this! Hondas generator blocks and a lot of other components come with no threads and you just send them very carefully with wisdom.
Now that it’s threaded; better use thread locker.
I was in in the car business for 50+ years...started out as a mechanic and it was always my first love.
I retired a few years ago when I sold the 7 dealership auto group that I owned.
I do not miss owning the dealerships...I do miss twisting wrenches.
I employed hundreds of technicians over the years and I can count maybe 20 that I considered to be true artists that took pride in their craft.
You would be one of them.
I salute you.
Totally agree with you, they are few and far between.
This is one of my favourite CZcams channels. I never get tired of the content and AMD’s light humour.
Masterclass. Thank you. This shop being what it is, it's assumed that all those glass particles were meticulously removed. If they are still in there, I am going to have nightmares!
Dang Car Care Nut now has a million subscribers!! Is AMD on the same level as music recording artists who have sold 1 million records? I think so!! Salute acknowledgement!
TCCN has the same calmness as Mr. Roger's and the painter Bob Ross.
Who would have ever thought that watching a mechanic replace a window regulator could be so enjoyable.
You have a lot of patience, and positive spirits when working on your car. That is something I need to learn and have tried to apply to when I’m working in my own car. Always enjoy your videos!
Agreed, I've learned a few French words from Chrysler vehicles...
😂😂
Haha same here! Except this may show my age, 😅but I had many choice words on a particularly memorable wet & cold evening at Grandma's apartment parking lot with a '75 351w (5.8L) powered (it was a factory shoe horn fit!) Ford Granada sedan back in the day trying to change out a lower radiator hose as a teenager. I had learned to respect the mechanics trade after that experience.🫡
Congratulations on 1M
seems that parts QC is suffering worldwide right now. thank you for showing the struggles/problems. it makes the rest of us feel human. your calming presence is a joy to watch even in the midst of this needless frustration. it's a great example to stay patient when cars fight back, because they will.
The door sounds great! Reminded me of a Lexus I drove for a while in the ´90s which really impressed me as the smoothest care I have ever driven.
Great Job 👍👏👏 Congrats 1 million subscribers!
Your attention to detail is really impressive. It's a pleasure watching you work
Just a tip they make a tool to hold the window up with suction cups. This would avoid glue from the tape getting all over your glass and paint on the vehicle.
Goo Gone is much cheaper than a special tool that you hardly will ever use.
@@mmarciniak Nah it’s 16 bucks on Amazon. Lisle 63900. Well worth it
Or rip the weatherproof molding.
I use the suckers, no glue goo, and strong enough to act as temporary security (if you put them on the inside !)
@@mmarciniak about £12 for a home use one, keep them clean and they’ll last, I bought mine for house double glazing panels.
I can't wait to see the next project. I thought i saw a gold LS430 kicking around in the background over the last 12 months.
Not only honest but a perfectionist. Thanks again AMD
Thank you and please, keep the video coming on this car, and regular updates on how the car is performing and holding up.
"That's OK." means it ain't OK. The Million mark, Congratulations!
When you said Ecru is reminded me that in 1990 after the LS had been out for about 6 months there were many complaints about the Lt beige floor mats and Lexus changed to Taupe, we replaced many for free. Then in 2001 after all those Lexus engineers that were there in 1990 retired or left the Ecru showed up again ! Many complaints later changed to darker color.
AMD, Let's never apologize . 😉😉😉
Trump could learn to apology from AMD. Honestly is the best policy.
@@Michael-yi4mcamen brother
@@maddydog 👍Thanks 🇺🇸
@@Michael-yi4mcAlways a silly lib bringing politics into where it doesn't belong. 🤦
To be humble is something we all should learn.
I've done "some" of what you've done to your car when I had my 87 Ford Ranger. Many years ago I replaced front and rear lenses, front grille and emblem, some door parts to both doors, front suspension parts and other items. They all helped the truck go longer, but after several more years then at 30 total years with me and it's last smog test a failure, it was time to go.
In 2020 I got the RAV4. It's a joy to drive.
Thank you AMD for the engine coolant removal/replacement AND how to verify it's done correctly. It worked so easy!
This year is the 8 speed automatic transmission fluid change using your instructions. However I think my XTOOL D8BT will help with that job. Your recommendation was why I bought it.
Nice work on your car! Hope the future driving shows how the car can help to make it a pleasant one!
Love it. My 2002 LS430 says Hello and Thank you to you.
Love it, brother, that car deserves everything you've given it.
I believe the screws are designed to make threads in that soft pot metal when installed. I ran into the same thing when installing a new side mirror on a BMW. The screws go in very hard the first time due to lack of threads, but make a nice thread even though they don't look like a self-tapping screw.
The issue begins if one of those threads made with the screw gets in a bit crooked...
Some of them are like that but usually window motors are not like that
The screws should have made the threads the first time going in. It's not common in the window motors but it does happen
Pot metal is a soft, malleable metal. I think the intent of the design is for the material to be compressed outward by the screw, rather than removing material with a tap, resulting in very weak threads.
Bingo yup its not supposed to have threads to lock it
Thank you for sharing your work, very interesting and congratulations on your 1 million subs.
That old L’s is super lucky to find its way to a loving owner.
Admirable patience, exemplary professional execution of the work. Compliment! Greetings from Germany
This looks exactly like my wife’s old car. Same color, same interior, same wheels and she put very dark tint on it. If it was ever registered in the state of Texas and serviced in Houston that is it haha! It was a great car. You’ve got it looking fantastic. They don’t make them like the LS430 any more. That was a special car.
Yes, I'm quite excited about the upcoming project. I can't wait...
Brilliant video. I love watching you work as you are so determined to do everything right and not take any shortcuts. Well done.
The car looks beautiful. It's a pleasure to see an honest mechanic who pays attention to details. God bless you.
Hi, I love working & fixing cars. And you are doing very good job. Good luck with your NEW LS430!
Looking forward to the final costs video. Frankly, I'm shocked as to the amount of New OEM parts you have been able to find for this car.
Love your videos. Like others have said, your patience and positive attitude are an inspiration!
i love how you do not give up until everything works perfectly!
Can't wait to see the cost on this baby!! Thanks for another great video AMD!
I'd like to see the final cost of this restoration when you make the final video.
I love this channel! I did this repair last year on my 2005 Tundra Limited. I took the easy way out and bought an entire aftermarket assembly. I spent more time trying to line up the plastic door panel clips than I did replacing the entire assembly. I also unfortunately used Gorilla Tape to hold up the window. What a pain getting the residue off the glass.
You are an artist! When I see such quality of work, atttention to detail, it even makes me feel good about...myself. Jobs well done.
Thanks for the work you do and the documentation you provide for DIYers like me. This project motivated me to get a GS430 and restore it in similar fashion
You have enless patience :) I hate the car doors... but I like watch your videos: expertism is overall.
She’s looking fantastic AMD thank you for inviting us along 👍👍👍
I agree with you. The vapor seal is important and should be replaced. I always say, “the engineer put it there for a good reason”.
Hello from Russia! Newer missing your episodes! You have a golden hands! I love this Lexus! I am a fan of youngtimers too!
Thanks AMD! I bought a 2000 es300 back in January and watching these LS videos is very inspiring! I know the right way to do things! Mine only has 104k miles and is very clean. I hope to completely restore it, but it’s a slow process. I got rid of all fluid leaks and restored the suspension. Getting some bodywork done next month! Wish I was a little closer, I would ask for an inspection!
Congratulations on 1M I've been watching your channel since the small garage Days.
Lovely solid door sound.
A lot of those motors come without threads with the intent being to install the screws and they cut their way into the soft material
I appreciate your detailed information!
And yes. Details details. Clean glass and smooth operation. I've always lubed the rubber tracks with a high quality lube. 303 aerospace protectent.
I really like the way you talk us through your thought process
As a machinist watching you tap the aluminum housing on that window regulator i was wondering if you had a bottom tap for that last hole. And i love seeing the restoration on such a beautiful car.
Thanks AMD. Great video as always. Love your passion.
Yay, congratulations, the key worked !!
Congratulations on attaining 1,000,000 subscriber!! Your channel's content is exemplary and your communication skills are so far ahead of your peers! Many thanks from a very satisfied subscriber and best wishes for continued success!
I have watched your videos over time and appreciate all of your advice. It is so refreshing to see someone so dedicated to giving honest, truthful information!
One of my longtime friends always convinced me to stay with Ford since he had them. Well, that is going to change. I have not been able to find an honest Ford dealer in all of California.
Thanks to you and your amazing library of work, I am going with Toyota for my next vehicle 🚗
I hope Toyota knows you are helping convert customers to them!
Hello AMD! Wondered what happened to the key! So glad it actually works. Again, I am amazed at your patience in doing the job correctly. So enjoy your videos, but especially the resurrection of the LS430.
I can't wait to see the next episode! Keep up the good work
Congratulations Ahmed 👏👏👏
Passion, expertise, integrity, humour = +1M subscribers. Great stuff, Congrats!
Hi AMD,
I did a search for “high mileage RAV4” and saw a 2020 RAV4 hybrid with 469,000 miles. It had 10,000 mile oil change intervals. Was being sold by Toyota of Greenberg Pa. Lots of service besides oil changes. Excellent testimony about durability of A25A FXS engine. I agree with you that 5,000 mile oil changes are good insurance.
Love your videos! John
Just a fantastic car and also one of my favorite CZcams channels. Such a down to earth perfectionist.
You are an awesome mechanic God bless you and your family and your shop :)
This man is foggin awesome- just love the insights and practical knowhow!. Greetings from Copenhagen, the danish capitol of sweden :)
Damn that car looks good
Dealing with the same issues perfect timing
One million 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 congrats Amd
Congratulations Ahmad...
People who are car nuts such as myself I feel wish they had the talent, tools (and know how to use them) plus your knowledge and car repair ability. I (now 70) always enjoyed and still enjoy turning a wrench but do not have the skills and knowledge to work on today’s computers operated vehicles. To know how to diagnose, troubleshoot and fix problems in today’s world is exceptional. While my favorites are the 60’s and 70’s muscle cars I have had the pleasure to own a few later models but would not attempt to deal with them on anything other than the basics. Your patience is another great attribute plus your dedication to your customers is superb. They are indeed fortunate to have you and your team. Yes I truly enjoy your videos and look forward to seeing the new project.
This thing is looking great! I missed the body work vid, I'm headed there now!
I own a Discovery TD5, 15 years old, so why to goodness am I watching someone who lives in Chicago when I live in the middle of nowhere in Wales 🏴 uk? I will never own a lexus, but you are so entertaining I can’t help but watch, thank you for your style in everything I have watched of yours.
One more step in the journey of the lexus !!!
Really curious to know what exactly you bought for the hidden project that we've all been waiting for. Excellent job restoring this 430! So much work is done!
Congrats on 1 million subs
Hi AMD
Despite I don't have the same model Lexus but I got different car I always learn from you new things.
We both from the same country origin and you are the best example to break the boundaries of the sky limits .
God bless you please keep doing what you doing.

😄🇺🇸 the key is the original. That is hilarious and glad you have a backup. Always a learning adventure with your videos. God bless.
Greetings from Australia 👋 Absolutely loving your video's 😊
I wonder when he's going to notice that little bit of vapor barrier sticking out from the door card. ;)
Us mechanics are always trying to impress ourselves. It’s called pride.
I was not going to say anything.... it was such a tiny sliver of orange.... but I was was wondering if he was gonna catch it. lol
Wow what a huge tip showing us how to set the window regulator to the correct default position. It's nice to see you sharing the wealth of your experience with the rest of us. Here's to 1.1M subscribers in the near future =)
So even Lexus parts can have problems. I tried making some stainless steel exhaust manifold studs from scratch and had to chase the hole threads. Using thread cutting lube helps. It's a pleasure to watch you work and not cut corners.
That door thunk is a dream. The lexus looks sharper than ever
Closed end holes need a bottoming tap. You know that but may not have one. Great work. Love these vids.
The key you found was not broken they were originally presented in a credit card format which started with the first LS 400.I have an hideway for my valet key after locking my keys in the boot some years ago.The best spot is in the bung space forward of the rear wheel arch on a magnetic cord inside the chassis, easy to get to and safe from the elements.
Hey, just noticed you're at 1M subs! Congrats! You deserve it!
Love how you tried to bury the supra behind the boxes. Getting
to be a long term resident in the shop
They do not thread the holes because if it was returned with threads created by the screws or a tap they will know it was installed and used.
Interesting possibility. Though I abhor thread-cutting screws.
About removing the glue on for the seal.
I would use some car polish to remove the left over glue.
The solvent in the car polish helps remove the glue and do not damage the paint.
The mounting holes are not tapped.
"But that's OK" 🤨
You have the patience of a saint.
The last vehicle I saw with that many miles on it was my Dad's 1978 GMC Gaucho, a full-sized 3/4 ton van. It had the 350 with steel crank and 4-bolt mains. By the time he sold it, it was burning a bit of oil and the body was shot, but it would still burn rubber on demand.
Love these series
You could use a clamp on the window gear before removing the motor to hold the gear spring in position. On those interior bolts that may come loose, that is where I would use lock tight.
Looking awesome!
When I had to replace the window in my old Toyota Yaris, I also replaced the plastic vapor seal in the end, interesting that it doesn't seem to be that common even among mechanics. However, I just used some old thick plastic sheet instead of buying anything special. Worked fine as well.
It's nice to see how it's properly done and that I didn't do anything wrong there. It's funny that also all the bolts were exactly the same as on the Lexus.
Congratulations on the very well-deserved 1 MILLION subscriber milestone! Here's to the next million 🍸
My arms and back hurt just watching this wonderful mechanic do his work as well as my knees. Working on cars is physically demanding as well as the mental stress is insane and that is not even dealing with the customer, excellent work great content really enjoy your channel
Looking good. Once it is done I would love to see a before and after.
Brilliant job. Not for the faint-hearted!
