  • Walk through with me as I learn how to replace the passenger side mirror housing on my 2018 Honda Civic Si coupe. I don't know what caused the housing to break, but can only assume someone hit it in a parking lot.

    Thank you very much for this. The key point, for me, was prying the mirror off of the gimbal. I had no idea that it was merely snap-fitted onto the gimbal, and that it could be gently pried off. I was about to return the housing and cap that I had bought and buy an entire new mirror assembly. After watching this, I was able to wrap up the job quickly. 😊

    You have truly blessed me with this video. Every quote I got for this was to replace the whole mirror which would run me over $1000 for my 2021 civic hatchback. I knew there had to be a way to fix just the housing/skull cap and you were the only video I could find on how to do this. I took the chance of doing this by myself (plus my father to assist) which saved me over $900. Thank you so much!! All the best to you!

    I know how mine got broken I was merging off a interstate ramp and they had construction cones up, I didn't see them until right before I merged back into traffic and the other driver would let me in and my passenger mirror clipped the top of a cone with the bottom of my mirror and the housing exploded all electronics and skull cap fine. I bought the parts in 2018 after it happened and the dealership wanted $250 labor to replace the housing, I decided to do it myself, however I was misinformed by other posters that I would have to take off the door paneling and take the mirror off to fix it. I subsequently kept putting it off and then I stumbled onto your video and saw that you didn't need to do all that and what the process was to accomplish it, so after having the parts for almost 3 years I finally replaced the housing today and it looks brand new. I also got lucky and when I pried off the mirror the white actuator came off with it, still attached to the mirror. Made the process even easier. Thanks so much. :)

      Order the parts from a Honda parts distributor. HondaPartsNow dot com or a local dealer’s web site. Note: search with your VIN, not just year/make/model. Also, if using local dealer, order on-line and then pick it up. You will pay more to just go and deal with the parts department.

    Where do I buy the parts ?

  • @JasonPrice1
    @JasonPrice1 Před 4 lety

    My theory on why the lower housing and the ring housing just explode is that they are only ABS. There is no glass fiber in them at all (I was looking at all the parts inside when I was temp gluing/taping things back into place). When I exploded mine, I know that it was because the little valley between the camera and the mirror housing wedged against the edge of my garage door. I take the Honda mirrors for granted as they are supposed to flex backwards and forwards as you know. What I am quite sure happened was that all the force was put into the lateral direction and not in a forward or backward direction. I would bet that someone managed to hit yours in the same manner and kaboom. Had they only grazed forward or backward, you likely wouldn't have had any mess or only a mark.
    I got mine done at the dealer as they had great prices on the parts so my total repair bill for the three parts and labor was only $185 CAD. It was also in the middle of the winter and I had no desire to be out in it where I live in a part of Canada that gets proper winters.

      To find the part numbers, go to a Honda dealer website that allows you to search parts by VIN number. That will ensure you get the correct parts. For example, the mirror housing for the Si is different from the Sport.
      I bought my parts from a Honda dealership in Daytona Beach. The give the deepest discounts of the sites I have researched. They charge for shipping, but the prices are fair.

Problems I had my help someone else: The white plastic piece that has to be popped off the centre hub - careful that you don't loose the power mirror circular springs that fit around the sprockets. They came off for me and I had to search for them on the ground. When I first put it back together, the power mirror x + y tilt would not work - once the springs were is place all was well.
