Screwing Around With The Sony LA EA5

- Tech Tuesday. Today I take a closer look at the Sony LA- EA5 adapter for using Old A mount screw drive lenses on newer Sony Mirrorless bodies. If you own the LA- EA4 I would say yes this is a worthy upgrade. If you are shooting old A mount lenses that have motors in them Sony SSM or Sigma HSM then the LA-EA3 will do the same job as this adapter. In the end for fun assignments yes this is a great adapter. For serious work do yourself a favor and just buy an e mount lens. Sony needs to update the firmware on more cameras for this adapter as well. Thanks for making this adapter Sony, but you still dropped the ball on this one.

What is your trigger priority settings? Focus priority or shutter priority?
Most interesting. I own the a99 with a lot of the very best minolta and zeiss a mount lenses. But I want to upgrade either to the a99ii or the a7r iv (or v) with the LA EA 5 adapter. Most of my photos are concert (low Light, static subjects, classical musi and harmony big band).
Body compatibility for screw drive function wasn't covered. It only works on some recent bodies.

What body were you using? My understanding was that this adapter works best for A7R4 and the A6600 and above. Those bodies alone have drastic computing power that assist in autofocus. Still not as fast when using native E mount, but they claim you are using it best with those bodies.
what camera do you use? Is that a 6600?
i read about compatibility and thats the only apsc that supports this adapter... on sheet anyway

WHICH ADAPTER WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR LENS MINOLTA APO 600 F4 AND SONY A9MK2 TO MAKE THE AUTOFOCUS WORK AS MOST PRECISELY?
does autofocus work in video mode with sony dt 16-50 2.8 ssm on sony a6600?
I bet you can’t get more decent actions shots on an A-mount camera with that lens. Only the final generation SSM or SAM lenses can benefit.
Gary could you test this la-ea5 with the Minolta 200mm f2.8? Tracking works well?

for Example de 20 mm Minolta 2,8 is not working. The Tamron 70-200 is not working!!
what nobody says.... not all the vintage AF work. I have the LA-EA 3 and there is no differense....this is not good!!
That LA-EA5 works very well on Sony 500/4.0.
I just hate that lousy depth-of-field looks like many beginners & amateurs like shooting.
Where can I get a 300/2.8, 400/2.8, 500/4.0 or 600/4.0 with great depth of field at wide open?
