Completely agree with your views on football in general and on Cristiano as well mate. Happy to see someone express exactly what I have been thinking for years. Another point i didn’t found highlighted is his overrated big game reputation. I agree that he is a clutch GOALSCORER to some extent, and I give him credit for that Haaland should get inspired by that.
Although I think his best clutch games only came when the team played well collectively and he just had to score a tap in most of the times led on a plate for him. Benzema did the same last year to get the ballon d or with a far lessen supporting cast and far more uplifting of that team and with more linking up of play and creativity duties.
Nobody can name me a complete footballing performance of his on par with Maradona’s performance vs Belgium in 86 or what Messi did to Manchester United in 2011 in the CL final in terms of 90 minutes contribution. Most of the big games he has scored in and this so called big game reputation was built post 2014 when he already turned himself into a poacher so in those games he only had to put the ball in the back of the net without any playmaking and creativity burden.
Like you said, he also got away with far less criticism on his crap performances in big games because his team was good enough to advance or win regardless unlike Barcelona which were far more dependent on Messi’s performance (Even in 2011 when they were at their absolute best who knows what would have happened if Messi didn’t turn into a Maradonian god mode for that slalom goal)

I think the questions were so perfect for this sort of debate because they were very open ended. When you ask whether messi is the best player in football history or whether ronaldo is a better player than Messi there are so many angles from which these questions can be attacked and discussed. I think the right way to think about this debate is that Messi is on an individualistic level a better player than ronaldo and objectively the best individualistic player of all time and what I mean by this is that his individual football skills (IQ, dribbling, vision, follow-through, etc.) are above the rest. However, I think Ronaldo is a better player than Ronaldo from a general sense. By this I mean that at the end of the day, football is a team sport and Ronaldo is better than Messi at playing the team sport that is football. Every team he's been on he's done amazing at and won trophies at. Every team he went to got significantly better and achieved major success in a very short span of time. One would argue that this argument is invalid because we shouldn't blame messi for staying loyal to Barca and I agree with that, but I don't think that its even remotely fair to discount what an absolutely amazing thing Ronaldo was capable of doing at clubs. Recently, Messi went to PSG and I was honestly very hopeful of seeing him succeed and excel because then no one would be able to make the argument that Messi can't adapt and succeed in teams that are not tailored to him. Much to my disappointment, he was not as impressive as Ronaldo when he went to Real, Juve, or Man U. Messi did not improve PSG in any way, rather PSG actually did worse in the UCL and even though they won the League, Messi was only good for making several passes. He was not the goal machine that he's known to be. So the GOAT debate is subjective and from my perspective Ronaldo is the goat because I find results born of hard work rather than talent to be more impressive, but this doesn't mean that I don't think that Messi is the most talented individualistic player of football of all time.

Straight to the point, For me and for many fotballing greats, Messi is the GOAT. But Ronaldo is just as influential as him and we are so lucky to have them both in the same era.

They contribute way more than him. They can create and dribble past his opponents and they actually press and play for the team and not for themselves.

I think the best argument for these two, is that you can argue that Messi is a better goal scorer than Ronaldo (better goal ratio), but you can’t argue that Ronaldo is a better play maker than Messi.
