I have used my Zip Navigator now for just over 2.5 Years (May 2019), 200+ rounds and 2100+ km. So I have got to know it pretty well. I initially bought it because I was playing multiple courses and end of round fatigue was becoming an issue on some of the tougher walking courses. And the Navigator does help with reducing this fatigue. But I am using it less now because it also has some annoying traits/faults that diminish the experience.
Firstly, its good points;
- The battery is very good, it charges quickly and would probably last 3 rounds easily. Though I recharge after each round, as recommended by MGI. The Remote Battery also charges quickly.
- It is relatively compact, though I still need to take a wheel off to fit it in my boot with my Clubs.
- It has been reliable.
- It definitely helps to reduce Fatigue, especially towards the end of a round. Stress, often not so much!
Now my issues;
- It tips itself over way too easily and too often. IMO the Wheel Base and the Track are too short, and the front wheels are too small and close together to give proper stability. Add to that motors that are too powerful at times and wheels that lose traction too easily and it will kick itself over when it gets off balance. The AT has a better front wheel set up, but those wheels should also be on the Navigator (as they were on the prior Quad model).
- The Wheels don’t have good traction. Any moisture and they will spin on the slightest inclines, even greened up grass will defeat them at times. When this happens, the brake steering goes awry and the buggy will bog and often turn in the opposite direction to the input. This does not help at all for the above-mentioned stability problem, because wheel spin is quite often the start of instability and a tip over. In addition the Wheels Squeak and Squawk whenever they get wet.
- The Buggy wheel stands on just about any upslope. It takes only a small change in gradient for the wheel standing to start, which then causes instability (with the front wheels off the ground). The dolly wheel helps, but it is too short and by the time it catches the flip back it can be too late.
- I find I cannot trust the Remote. The buggy has taken off so many times without any input after I thought it had been parked and locked. I have had to pull it out of bunkers too many times. Thankfully, not out of the water so far, touch wood! (I know others that have!). I now leave the remote in the cradle after I lock it, as it cannot be trusted on the belt clip, or in a pocket.
- The Remote Belt Clip has broken 3 times. It happened about every 6 months. The design has an obvious weak point. It hasn’t broken since I stopped using the belt clip, but then what is its purpose if you can’t trust/use it?
- The Remote Buttons wear out, which is understandable I guess, but after spending $200 on a new remote, I discovered you could just replace the skin for $15. The skin is now listed on the website but wasn’t when I needed it.
- It went through a long period where the buggy would just stop without input. Often just in front of me as I walked behind. It may have been related to the old (original) Remote as it has not done so since I got the new Remote.
- Despite the Gyro system I find I have to continually correct the direction. It wants to go right all the time. I reset the Gyro system regularly, but that only offers a temporary fix. The Remote left button is the first to wear out for this reason. My new one is already well worn after only a couple of months.
- The buggy has no suspension and it shakes the bag and clubs quite violently at times. Clubs need to have Headcovers to prevent damage. It has even thrown off Headcover at times, such is the violence of the shaking. The buggy bounces about on anything less than perfectly smooth terrain and it will bounce itself off the balance if it hits a small hole, tree root, rock etc.
- The Scorecard Holder constantly rattles, even when it is empty.
- The option Seat is another rattler. And balls in the seat pocket end up covered in felt dust, such as the amount of shaking they endure.
- When I first got the Navigator the battery was a loose fit and it started to wear against the plate it fits to. I ended up packing the wear area with some cloth tape and this has fixed the problem. I gather from other owners this is a common fit problem.
Note: I have posted this review to the MGI website Product Reviews section 3 times over 3 months, and it is still to be published by them. Nor have I had any contact from them. Which explains why there are no reviews rated less than 4 out of 5 on there!
I reviewed an inflatable raft once with some criticisms, and the manufacturer edited the review to take the criticisms out, so I then posted the review elsewhere. I guess it's at least good that MGI didn't do that. Anyway, some of your issues might be solved by having a non-remote cart that you have to maintain a little more control over (but still makes the walk much easier). My buddy's navigator started to head off in a different direction toward the woods in our last round. Fortunately he was able to get it stopped quickly.
Three things: 1) The Zip Navigator AT (All Terrain) is the model you want. It was built with a wider front base than Zip, resulting in few tipping over accidents. 2) The tipover possibility can also be lowered by putting a 5 lb weight in the front bottom of your bag, which serves to balance the weight top to bottom much better. 3) Biggest key is to slow it down as you go up steep heels as long as you have the 5th wheel pulled out (a lot of people don't realize that's what it's for). This was the greatest purchase in my life. I was one of the "no way would I ever spend that much money!" But, with a bad back, I bit the bullet and bought one. Now, my rounds feel like a casual stroll through the course with a personal caddy.
I have the Zip Navigator. I kind of wish the battery was forward of the wheelbase, not behind. Definitely a learning curve but I do enjoy it.
Biggest advice I'd have is to get in the habit of always hitting the "lock" button on the remote when you stop. After a runaway or two you learn to do that.
It's the best !! Love the AT version, I'm thinking people also don't know that the 5th wheel can be extended out further and locked in via the release pin setting into another hole position. It allows for more stability support going up inclines.
@@wayneadie The farthest hole is actually the correct position. The shorter position is only for locking it into place as you flip it under for storage.
Ben, I just got the quad navigator we play on a very hilly course and it works great. Is there an easy way when I leave the cart at the club and take the battery or do you always have to make the wheel adjustment

I hear you, but I bought this one: CaddyTrek- R2 Robotic Golf Caddy. I bought it specifically because it follows me. I have a remote I can move it around, but the cool thing is, mine follows me around the course.
Great buggy but the accessories fall apart in no time. I found an All In 1 accessory by Stadium Golf that fits the MGI Zips, amazing accessory that has everything and is well built
I had the same issues with my MGI accessories, thanks for the heads up on the Stadium Golf accessory, I will check it out.
I got one of these about 3 months ago and have around 50 rounds on it so far and it's awesome. It tops out at around 6-7 MPH and will conquer even the most hilly and long course you could ever play. I'm amazed at the range of the remote which is at least 200 yards. My only advice I would give someone buying one is to watch the pocket dial. When you park it and put the remote in your pocket you can hit the forward button on accident sending it taking off. Hit the lock button!
I mentioned the lock button in a comment above and you're absolutely right. I nearly had my cart run off into oncoming traffic while I was putting because the forward button got pressed accidentally. I now lock it every time I go to the green.

What a small world. My cart was delivered over the weekend while I was at Jackson Lake during the Spring time cleaning. Drove right past the course on the way back to Atlanta. I just randomly picked your video for a “How To” after assembly.
I'm not sure why it tipped over going downhill unless the speed was set too high. It's suppose to have downhill speed control to prevent that very thing from happening. I couldn't tell in the video but the rear tip over wheel extends out after you unfold it. Also the reason it acts weird when you grab the handle while you're using it in remote mode is because it has a built in patented gyroscope that keeps it going in a straight line. When you grab the handle with your hand it doesn't know and it's trying to make adjustments automatically to keep it going in a straight line. So basically when you grab the handle while using the remote you're fighting the gyro. One more thing...the second notch in the axle for free wheeling is not meant to be used to push the cart through a round of golf. It's meant to be used if your battery were to die or in close quarters like the parking lot or your garage. The wheels can be turned around or inverted then put back on and this is what reduces the width of the unit for transport. I think it's a wonderful machine that's definitely worth the money if you like to walk and don't want to constantly have your hand on the machine like the non remote electric carts. To play a round without having to push a cart or hang on to one is freedom to enjoy the walk. For those who complain about the price just put it in perspective. Between my driver, my clubs, my wedges, my putter and my bag, not to mention shoes, gloves and balls, I've got way more money tied up then what this cart costs. I hope this little bit of insight will help add some clarity to the review. Thanks for doing this review.
Had the ATV model for about a year now - 3-4 rounds weekly. Great value Great Service Easy setup. Rick the 5th wheel has two positions.
Matt, I could see where this cart would work out for you giving you the ability to video and for folks with bad backs.
I own this cart and over the year have played over a hundred rounds with it. It's really a great cart and does not tip over very easily. The only time I've tipped it is when I wasn't looking very carefully where I was steering it. Very sturdy! One warning though is if you put the remote in your back pocket while putting, make sure you lock the remote! I nearly had a disaster a couple of times. I was bending down to read my putt and the start button got inadvertently pushed. The cart started to drive into the road without me knowing because I was looking the opposite way at the time. Fortunately the cart hit a telephone pole which prevented it from going into traffic. Once you get used to locking the remote when putting, it's not big deal. Great cart!
I bought one of these a month ago and I'm pretty happy with it. I've walked about 10 rounds with the navigator so far. I've walked multiple rounds the same day and the batteries held up with no problem. I haven't tipped mine since the second round played. Mostly just seeing how big a slope it would traverse without a hand on it.
I’ve got the identical cart. Actually got it for my wife because her ladies group always walks and the course is hilly. Bought this model for the built in gyro, lithium battery and the compact size. The built in gyro forces it to roll straight which cheaper carts don’t have. Without this, you’ll constantly be correcting the direction. As long as you go directly up the slope, you’ll be fine. Not saying it won’t tip over but you learn what it can and can’t do. We love it!
That's why he had trouble turning it by hand while using the remote. It's trying to go straight. In manual mode you can turn it easy

I got the Alphard Golf V2 in my opinion much better you get wheelie bars so there is no tipping over it attaches to your cart. Great video maybe you can get your hands on V2 to review would love your opinion.
Get the V2 with the TFS and this cart is put to shame. Seriously.
I have the Alphard Golf V1 & V2...both are great. Best bang for your buck. Mr Short Game...you need to do a review of the V2!
Would you ever consider doing a review of the Alphard Club Booster V2 and associated accessories? It's a different concept to electric motorized pushcarts. It looks like a hoverboard and your push cart can be modified to attach to it. I know you would show fairly what potential customers of that product should know, as I did not, before buying. Their website is somewhat disingenuous in that they have over 50+ reviews and almost all of them are are 5-star and a few 4-stars, nothing else. The product for the most part is a good one but someone needs to provide an honest review of it. I think you're just the right man for the job.
I have the ewheels V2 with a clicgear and love it....it hasn’t flipped over yet ....walking is the best way to play golf...
I also purchased ewheels v2 and could not be happier. Alphard Ewheels are cheaper and looks to be more stable. But still love the vids!

@@dennisd4027 absolutely love the v2. I have an rv1s cart that the v2 is attached to and could not be happier. Stability is excellent and setup is simple. Plus the v2 community is fun and informative. I have never tried any other products so I am kinda biased but I am very happy with it. Good luck and you will probably be happy either way.
@@mezzyj How did you get the V2 already? Were you part of the test group? Ordered mine late November but won't arrive until January. I too am looking at the Rovic cuz of the swivel front wheels. Glad you like the rovic too.
@@dennisd4027 yeah I was an original backer of the Kickstarter. I was in the first delivery back in august. Played about 15 rounds and only tipped it once because I was trying to do a little off-roading in the trees. Still waiting for the “tether” to be delivered. From what I hear from the customers that have received it, it is a game changer.
I watch just to see what kind of new toys Matt is getting. I bought a clic gear push cart several years back and it still rolls great. I just cant justify that price for a new toy. And if I play a real hilly course, I'm riding anyway.
Friends who gave them are very pleased; so far. Battery Warranty is 2 Years. Current Replacement Cost is $440. The big question is: how many hours, or charges do they last? Lithium...
I have mine MGI navigator since Late August last year and the best investment I have bought for a golf buggy, I was thinking about f buying the non remote and was talked into buying the remote control model and it was money well spent. For the extra $400 for the remote has made walking a golf course much more enjoyable. I did have a L Plates on for a few months getting used to it and has preformed excellent
I have one I have the Very First Edition that came out years ago I still use it. MGI Navigator is what I have.
I have seen someone use an aletrante remote to control another persons buggy. They drove it into the car park and took off with the clubs. If you buy one you need to ensure that the user code uses anti virus software to block people using magnetic field tracers to take over the remote control. Otherwise it is a great unit
My coworker bought one of these and the day he got it he was hiding behind one of our company trucks and then driving it up to people at the other business in the industrial park we are in and scaring and confusing them, hilarious
That center back wheel should have adjustments to be moved in and out. At least on my model of Navigator, it does. Great video.

Thank you. Good timing. I just ordered one from Costco but it has 4 wheels. I now have a Novacaddy X9. If I try to turn it while on a hill or something, it will tip over. Does that back wheel extend more. I think it should. My bag tends to twist and lean to one side which cause issues. I have a cart bag instead of my stand bag that I may try. Mine will be here in two days. I'll try to update you with the 4 wheel stability.
I enjoy the vids. I now have a mizel 55 degree in my bag. I love my 60 and hate the 52. So this works well.
The back wheel does extend about three inches more, makes a huge difference. I am still figuring out how to get the bag to not twist. Sometimes it doesn't, so I know it can be done, I just have yet to figure out what I do differently!

We’ve had these kind of remote control trollies in Europe for quite a few years, I’ve had a few of them they are all very similar. They do take practice. Before spending 1500 dollars bear in mind they do not tend to last long, there’s no suspension so they all crash and bang, and the tyres will wear out in no time on cart paths.
Hi I have a MGI NAVIGATOR AT . THE FRONT WHEELS WIDENED THEY FOR GREATER STABILITY. WHERE I PALY GOLF COURSE IS MUCH STEEPER AND ROUGH TERRAIN .AND MY GOLF BUGGY HAS NOT TIP OVER. I get over 36 holes of golf ⛳️ out my buggy before I have to recharge the battery.

Awesome video. I have this MGI Zip Navigator and absolutely love it. Bought it in 2020 during the heat of Covid. Just ordered the seat accessory for it. I tend to walk more now which is good. Highly recommended.

I noticed in your video it tipped over a few times and the mound didn't look that sleep, did you pull out the small wheel at the back that allows the cart to do a wheelie up hills. I love watching it go up hills and FYI I have the AT (All Terrain) Zip Navigator model with the wider gap in the front wheels.
I always wonder why the brands "Jucad" or "TiCad" from Germany are not bigger in the states. They make the best golf carts totally made out of titanium and carbon on the market!! Also got models with remote controls - ridiculous expensive though :-) but sexy as hell!! you might wanna check these brands out mate...

My buddy bought this cart at the same time I went for the basic non-remote X1. Obviously there is a learning curve with the remote, but my initial thoughts are that the X1 offers the same assistance with far less to think about (and less chance of dumping it). I've used it for three rounds on courses of varying terrain, and most of the time, I can simply walk behind or beside the cart as it motors on on its own. When I do need to guide it, some light pressure with one hand is all that's needed. And on sunny days when I'm using an umbrella for shade, I want my cart with me anyway, unless I want to be bothered carrying an umbrella around. Is it worth another $900-$1000 dollars so you can send your clubs up ahead of you as opposed to walking beside them? Not to me. My guess is that anyone who enjoys walking will find the X1 works perfectly to make the walk more enjoyable, and a remote trolly won't add any significant value over it.
Agreed, I also went the X1 route. It does the job I need it to.
I also have the Zip X1 and purchased it for exactly the same reasons you outline here. Best golf purchase I have made in a while. Whisper quiet and does everything I want it to. Unlike Mr Short Game’s comment about the slight delay prior to moving after pressing the go button, I actually like that feature of the buggy……you know it’s not going to take off in a hurry. Totally agree that there should be an incremental speed such as a 4 1/2 . I find that 4 is a bit slow and 5 a touch fast. Greetings from Down Under.
@@pam4280greetings. A year later, still no regrets, though I've gone with a minimalist set-up (8 clubs) and find that I use my pull cart as much or more than the zip simply because of the convenience of tossing it in the car. But on hilly courses, the x1 is fantastic.
This is a good Golf buggy and performs as the video suggests. However, one piece of advice this clip doesn’t give you and this is to avoid getting it ‘WET’.
This is not B.S…. My new MGI Navigator Zip A.T. buggy rec’d water damage after running into a drainage ditch. MGI warranty does not cover this. My repair bill was in excess of 50% of the original purchase price! Additional insurance may help you? But be sure to read the fine print.
Motocaddy M7 remote does not tip on any hill, just sayin :) I noticed yours went over twice in this video I have had my M7 for 4 months and never has it toppled, the MGI is a Motocaddy wanna be :)

I have one of these, absolutely love it! But the price for the unit is high. Then you need to add accessories!
It is pricey. My "justification", I would not be walking without it, is the biggest. Also, saving $12 or so a round over a cart, I will have it paid for in a couple years!

As great as these are, I just cannot justify $1500 on a trolly! I mean if I had the cash I suppose it wouldn't be a factor but I don't so it is lol
Understandable, although for me, I justified the expense because last year I didn't spend a dime renting a golf cart and used this instead. So, in a sense, it paid for itself after about 80-90 rounds. At least that's what I tell my wife.

Expensive unit ? Just looked at what you buy on line here in the UK and starting price is around 250 pounds for one with a Lead Acid battery. There are some you can actually sit on for under 1,000 pounds.There is a space age one with hidden batterys called JuCad Titan 2.0 that costs just under 4,000 pounds !!!
Lol this was a pretty funny video! Def good content though I live in WV and play with a lot of guys and gals especially that would appreciate this review especially since those hills are pedestrian to some of our home courses.
Do you have to hold the remote button down or just press once to get it going and then again to stop?
How would this compare to the motocaddy m7? I live in Georgia too and many of the course I play are "good luck" walking courses. How would it work for a tour size bag? Thanks for the replies in advance!
RC carts are the best. I have a CaddyTrek but your model looks good too. This is the best thing short of having a caddy. So much better than riding a cart. Very cool video, nice work.
It was hard to turn when you grabbed it because it has a gyroscope to keep it on track going forward when it hits dips and what not. This keeps you from having to constantly fiddle with the steering.
What about cart tek ? I bought it after your review. I love it and customer service has been excellent . What are your thoughts on the two ? Cart tek vs mci navigator . I researched both and went with your recommendation for cart tek.

Try it on a hilly course. It still falls over, the balance is poor.

I thought you Americans all had buggies so why would you need a trolly ? Personally I like to carry my bag, fun vid the electric ones in Uk have a small 3rd wheel in the middle in the back to stop it tipping, they look more hassle than anything else
I have had 5 different models,the zip is good ,how ever it is very easy to turn over, the single wheel would be better, with the 2 front wheels they tend bounce back and force which causes it to tip over.

I bought this MGI Zip Navigator from American Golf. However when I took it on the course it fell over 14 times after only 4 holes where I called it a day. It appears to be top heavy Unfortunately for me American Golf refused to refund as I had used the Trolley even though I only played 4 holes. Unless Your golf course Is like a carpet I would strongly recommend you look elsewhere.
My money is on the carpet installer coming back and putting the cart together.😀
Look into Alphard it mounts on your present cart like Clicgear, Sun mountain and works the same as these but more stable. Cost half of what these cost.
I just got the quad navigator we play on a very hilly course and it works great. Is there an easy way when I leave the cart at the club and take the battery or do you always have to make the wheel adjustment . I love all of your videas, short game tips and this one as well
Anyone have a comment on the follow carts? Like Stewart new Q version or the x10 or x9 or any other brand?

I have one of these love it. It has kept me in golf & as I’m in Australia I can carry loads of water in the summer. Great review Matt👍🏽

Hey Mr Short Game do you own your own golf cart?
If you drive up hill backwards you don't need to worry about it tipping over backwards.
It should be able to go to the full limit on hills because all courses have lots of hills
