Why don't people say good things about these people, Instead of bad stuff about alcohol.

He cried a bit while in mid croon. It was so sad.

According to Frank Sinatra and all of the people closest to him, Dean Martin wasn't even a heavy drinker, much less an alcoholic.
Frank Sinatra shows up on the list as well so maybe he wasn't the best judge.
@@NoExitLoveNowDean martin did NOT drink. It was an act only.
You are correct, everything I’ve read on Dean Martin. It was a staged gimmick for when he broke ties with Jerry Lewis. He drink tea and apple juice on stage to give the illusion he was drinking and drunk. He was more of the family man, compared to the rest of the rack pack. Who drank heavily and party
@@coloradopackratprepper 100% correct, Martin split with Sinatra because he didn't want to carouse late at night

I can relate. I drank into my forties. I was a bar hopper, after work in NYC. I went to High Watch, in Kent CT for 3 wks. We had chores, and tons of AA meetings in the facility and when, we left. I've been sober over 30 years.

You're not famous. Doesn't count.
It has been aways been known, Dean Martin never drank much at all. That is by all the accounts of the people, that worked with him, for his entire career.
Sinatra drank more than Dino spilt
In statistical document, DEAN MARTIN himself told the interviewers. NA- AHH, in that case, how would have I been able, to cope along with the storys / happenings correctly, How could have I made, sudden switch, sobering up, and act like a sane guy etc. Stupid tallentless jelous fools, don't have materials to write about, just thrashing other's good names legitimacy & reputations? Sound like a bunch of gussip columnists, that love to stire in a dirty shitty storys, in a secret abandoned under ground casino?

I've heard Dean Martin started drinking heavily for real after the death of his son. But I don't know if that's true.
'It was a woman that drove me to drink but I never had the courtesy to thank her'. W.C. Fields
I'm surprised that Nick Nolte wasn't on the list. His drinking was legendary and his antics were wild. While filming Grace Quigly, Kathryn Hepburn snapped at him, saying "are you going to drink at every sewer in town?". He shot back "Not yet!"
@hefaust61.
I'm sure Nick Nolte is on a different list of Hollywood drunks. Cause you know there's one hell of a lot more than 50 alcoholics in the entertainment business. Lindsay Lohan wasn't mentioned & how many times has she been through rehab. I know she's been out here at the Betty Ford Center.

That is what the two books I read about him said. He didn't drink.
I'm surprised Jack Cassidy isn't on this list. The man literally died of a fire started from a cigarette he was smoking while he was drunk. His drinking messed up a lot of relationships in his life, including the relationship he had with is son David who also died from alcoholic-related issues.

How does someone like Dean Martin make this list of alcoholics if drinking was only part of his stage persona?.?
Dean Martin would dine at the restaurant that I worked at in Century City. It was Yamato's. He would be with his date. He would have two champagne cocktails, and that's all. When another person would open his tatami room door. Dean Martin would pretend to be drunk. His drinking on his show was apple juice. I've read books about him, pretending to be drunk. It was part of his act. He was a very talented actor and singer. He was always so nice, to let people disturb him on a date.
When his son Dino died . It broke his heart. So R.I.P. Dean and hope that you're with Dino
and the rest of your family that have died.
he was on narcotics, which is why he had to limit his alcohol consumption, the coroner, discovered that after his autopsy
Jerry Lewis stated in an interview that Dean Martin became a reclusive alcoholic after Dino's death. However, as @angelbabysqueaky stated, he only had a drink or two at the most but would pretend to be drunk as part of his act.

...and yet here he is on a list of alcoholic celebs. Gotta love YT truth vs fiction.
My husband died from alchoholism at age 64. It truly will shorten your life to drink heavily everyday.
Cary Grant - had a trauma disorder. That's why he took LSD treatment wich was usual in the fifties. Rita Hayworth had Alzheimers disease. When she was confused and lost the tabloids said she was an alcoholic.
his trauma was a life out of Dickens. He was born into extreme poverty. At about age 11 he came home from school to find his mother GONE. She had been placed in a psychiatric institution but he was told she was vacationing by the seaside. Soon after his father deserted him to start a new family. Heaven knows HOW he ever made a life for himself. The suave gorgeous man onscreen carried a hell of a lot of PTSD and shock inside of him. When you know this, it makes his career and fine characterizations even more amazing.
@@virginiasoskin9082 I know how his live was and how he himself invented Cary Grant. That's why I reacted because he was not an alcoholic and LSD treatments were used in the fifties and accordingly it helped him a lot.
Anthony Hopkins was very open about his recovery. I've been sober now for 34 years and felt a sort of kinship with what he went through and what he shared. They say only 3% of alcoholics actually win the battle. That's a very low percentage.
well done, you beat me by a year it was 33 years last September for me
@@davecannabis September 6th for me!! Congratulations!
@@dog-gone-it5944 3rd Sep for me lol
It's actually 10% make it three years without a relapse.
That percentage is definitely not accurate, and it's probably wrong in both directions. First, that 3% is probably only measuring how many of a certain number are still sober after a certain amount of time (maybe a year or two), meaning many of that 3% probably relapse later on. On the other hand, that 3% is probably only measuring the success rate of a group who quit at a specific moment in time. It doesn't account for those who later attempt to quit again. Probably half or even much more than this have success eventually, and then some of these go back, and then most of these quit again. Most people, in any event, stop eventually.
Anyhow, I think we set ourselves up for a morbid evaluation by using absurd criteria. Someone quits for 5, 10, or 20 years, and establishes a family, career, and partially built nest egg. Then they get drunk, and we're all expected to declare, "ohhh, woe to them! All those years were for *nothing!"* At this point, everyone (including the drinker) starts waiting for this person to "hit bottom," which is a mythical phenomenon in which a drinker must destroy everything in life before they can then rally their resolve to rebuild everything all over again. Now, we have a self-fulfilling prophecy that demands they completely wreck everything they've acquired, judging that, without sobriety, its all valueless anyways (wth!). Everything needs to be sacrificed on the altar of "permanent sobriety." Even if they're only relapsing for a few days every few years, everything they achieve prior to "permanent sobriety" is to be regarded as fool's gold. According to this insane thinking, it would be much better for them to go all out and destroy it all with this relapse in order to produce a state of "surrender" than for them to come to their senses, mitigate the damage, and leave open *any* possibility of ever relapsing again.
Lets get this clear: Dean only drank a lot after shock of his sons death and this late in life He never got over that. Essentially he died of a broken heart, the drink.was just to dull the pain. Parents would you blame him??? Stop defaming Deans memory by putting him on this list. His drinking was all an. act. Dean we love you.

I read Ann-Margret's autobiography in high school. She was candid about her struggle with alcoholism, and how she was able to triumph over it.
Never understood how someone could be an alcoholic, even though it is considered a disease, it is an addiction instead. A disease to me is like mononucleosis, which almost killed me, or cancer which got my Mom. Alcoholism to me is more a terrible habit. Don't hate me for my opinion. It is mine.

Good for you ❤ thumbs up
Dean Martin was a teetotaler. The 'whiskey' he drank on set was apple juice. I was embarrassed when I found out. The man was a comedian doing alcoholic schtick. A number of guys did that. But Dean Martin drank less alcohol than a Baptist. I'm uncomfortable with rumors and gossip that are phony.
he was a Hollywood faker - faking alcoholism
Judging from this list there have been no alcoholics in Hollywood since 1980.
There probably are...we just don't "hear" about them as much as those who "abuse drugs"....yet, "alcohol" is a sorta "drug"....🫤
Contrary to what people say, Dean Martin was a teetotaler. His family confirmed that it was even rare that he would have a beer maybe once every few years. All the 'alcohol' he was ever seen with was Coca-Cola, tea, or something else innocuous. It was all for appearances since Frank Sinatra was a heavy drinker and would say he couldn't trust anyone that didn't have a drink in their hands.
Dean Martin became a very gifted actor and it was all an act.
Maybe not a true teetotaler -- I think he'd have a social drink on occasion -- but definitely not the lush he portrayed in his act. Sinatra was a much heavier (and more destructive) drinker than Martin ever was.
Not a complete teetotaller, but definitely not a drinker. Apple juice. Not true about Sinatra either. Dean was a shy person, and when he started out in Vegas, he needed a prop to keep him company - so a drink was the choice.
So many were left off of this list; including Dana Andrews, Desi Arnaz, Ernest Borgnine, Audie Murphy, Fatty Arbuckle, Ray Milland, Tyrone Power, Bud Abbott, Jackie Gleason, and dozens of other noteworthy stars.
So many of these stars had demons long before they became discovered!
And they forgot..Oliver Reed, the great Scottish actor, who could drink..anybody..under the table..

Alcohol abuse ravages your looks too. You can look at Errol Flynn spoiled his handsome face, he died when he was 50, but looked like he was at least 20 yrs. older. Ava Gardner ruin her beauty with alcohol. What about Frances Farmer ,alcohol and too many lobotomies, ruined a great talent. Alcohol ruined many faces and great talents. It's so sad that alcohol took too many from us.
😂😅 Maybe so .but what a hell of a party 🎉 while it's lasts . I will drink to that !...
John Barrymore lost his looks to alcohol too. If you watch some of his later movies, it looks as if he’s drunk on screen.
There is a story Olivia deHavilland told about Flynn. She was at a party and someone tapped her on the shoulder. When she turned around she saw this old man whom she did not recognize. Taken aback, he said, "Olivia, it's me...Errol!" She was shocked how aged and bloated he looked. Alcohol devastates the body and all the organs. No wonder these ppl died at 50...they were embalming themselves with alcohol, drugs, and nicotine while still alive. Horrible. That said, Hollywood can be a cruel and extremely competitive place and everyone pays for that in one way or another -- alcohol, drugs, smoking; being sexually or physically abused or doing the abusing. It is a high pressure business like being in a pool with piranhas, and I really would not be able to deal with all the crap that goes with just making a film. It is so much more than memorizing lines and showing up on the set to act. It's the publicity, over-attention to your appearance, weight, physical strength, travel, living accommodations, foreign film locations that may be extremely hot or cold, late nights, very early mornings, etc. Yoga, massage, rehab...just one thing after another. If you want a high risk life be an actor!!!
You really need to look up more information about Frances Farmer - "too many lobotomies"... Jesus, take the freakin' wheel...

Despite all the comments about Dean Martin, I feel I must add one more. When I was young I lived in Bernardsville, where the TD Band was headquartered. Dean and Frank would attend card parties next door to where I lived. Some Friday night, Saturday mornings I could look out my bedroom window and see Dino carrying Frank out to the car so they could leave the party. Dean's actual drink of choice was Martinelli's sparkling cider, which I myself indulge in occasionally, and I quit drinking alcohol back in the 1980's.

Singer Lillian Roth was the most famous alcoholic in the world. Her drinking was immortalized in the film, I'll Cry Tomorrow. Susan Hayward played Lillian in the film. Because Lillian's voice was gone at that point, Susan Hayward did her own singing.
The book. I'll cry tomorrow was so much better than the movie.
Wasn't Lillian Roth a lesbian?
Who knows? I didn't get that impression from the book. Does it matter? She was another victim of Hollywood. Pimped out by her mother more or less. Evidently Hollywood has been twisted from the beginning but what can you expect from a world where everything is an act. How would you ever know what was real? Just a bunch of actors acting.
Susan Hayward was MY redhead, and Maureen O'Hara was next. Susan was gifted as an actress (Oscar for I WANT TO LIVE), but she didn't sing. Best story is, true ghost singers dubbed for her--like the fabulous Marnie Nixon, who made a lot of actresses look like singers.

Rita Hayworths story is heartbreaking. Did she drink? Yes. Probably because she was abused by her father at a very young age. And the horrible photographs you so of her getting out of a plain, in my view, have a lot to do with the fact that she had Alzheimer at in her fifties. Poor poor woman.

Even if you have Jesus in your heart. Bad things happen. Narcissists sure add to the stress of life.
Exactly! People in recovery will say, "Get comfortable with being uncomfortable." Some people don't want to feel their feelings, so they turn to some sort of addictive behavior to cover it up. I think her comments were the most important part of this video.

Cary Grant.... The dark side🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷, but not every one drinks as an actor today, I think, and Dean Martin was super.🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩, William Holden, may they All Rest in Peace....🤔🤔🙏🏼🙏🏼💓
Yup Andre loved beer. But he was a great man with a great heart! NOBODY is perfect! 🙏🙏
Dean was not the drinker they say he is. It was an act. Gv it a break. I love him regardless.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Don't have a single favorite, but let's call it a favorite four: Richard Burton, Peter O'Toole, Oliver Reed and Richard Harris. Imagine the hell they got up to.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Gig Young was once married to Elizabeth Montgomery. He was her second husband.
When showing photos of the person being talked about, use the right photos! With John Barrymore, you showed a photo of his son John Jr. with a moustache and beard also you showed Christopher Plummer at the end of the segments regarding John Barrymore!!
Cary Grant. His doctor prescribed him LSD to cure his alcoholism. LMAO
Why? It was and is an effective treatment.
His wife Betsy Drake turned him on to LSD. He was not an alcoholic.
Do you mean to imply that sloppy research and ethics are used when making on a CZcams video?? I'm shocked. SHOCKED!
Really enjoyed the whole show! Thanks!
We all die of course, but choices we make can hurry it up
Gregory Peck cured his alcoholism with LSD being guided by his doctor. Afterwards he lived a full healthy life and dies in his eighties. Now , which of these two drugs is legal in human society , the alchohol or the LSD , and why ?
For most of the time in the last century, drinking large amounts was considered "sociable" for women and manly for men in the western world. Hence, lots of people got addicted to booze at an early age.
On February 15, 2024, I'll have 44 years of sobriety. Thank you, God!
❤😢Judy Garland 😢❤
9:12 Thats not William Holden!! Robert Wagner. 13:05. Thats Bette Davis, not Mary Astor!! 14:04. Again Bette!
With Rita Hayworth it was Alzheimers that made her act weird, not alcohol!
And that's not John Barrymore at 33:57, that's Christopher Plummer. That picture was probably taken more than 50 years after Barrymore died.
@@1pinestreetActually think at 33:57 it is John Barrymore and at 34:00 that is Christopher Plummer!
Frank Sinatra used to say that Dean Martin once had to go to hospital for tests and that they found blood in his alcohol system.
Number 34 at 13.05 is Betty Davis not Mary Astor.
That was from The Great Lie 1941 that Bette and Mary starred in.
Uh, Johnny Carson should be here. I've seen it.
Dean Martin was not a drinker. The drink jokes were part of his on-stage schtick. He drank apple juice most of the time.
Several of the photos you used are NOT of the actor you accuse of drinking.
👍👍👍👀
There was a picture of Christopher Plummer who played Barrymore.
Too many of these actors are damaged before they get in front of a camera. Many have self esteem issues, which leads to other poor choices!
Twice showed Betty Davis and called her someone else. 34:02 Shows Christopher Plummer and calls him Lionel Barrymore.
The 'Giant' , Nemoy, Bow, and Grant are New to me, first I remember hearing their story. Talking of Denis Price (I don't remember the name), @3:02, why an image of Dirk Bogard? Talking William Holden, @9:11 an image of the "Harts"? Gail Russel, Barbra Lee Payton, Marie Prevost, are not a face nor name I recognize. Gets boring, Too Long, better as a two parter of 25 each.
Re: Hart to Hart- Stephanie Powers was Holden's love interest.
Pills of all sorts also killed off these celebs such as Judy Garland and Elvis Presley etc....these doctor "handlers" were told to give these to the stars.....or be sorry.....so sad.....🤔
Elvis' death was from a heart attack. See Valsalva Maneuver
Elvis had several health issues which contributed to his death.
Many of these stars and other prominent people had their Dr. Feelgoods to cater to them. They rarely refused them anything, which in some cases, eventually did them in.
The WW2 generation took the brunt of their times in the forms of Alcohol and cigarettes. It got them thru the worst of times and experiences when they were young and tormented them when they got older. The poor Russians don't even have that hope, it is killing them all while they are still young then and now . What a waste.
One drink is too much and a barrel is never enough. 🙄
Enjoying a martini and now a fine Chardonnay while watching this video.
