Who's we? Hybrids make a ton of sense (so half EVs). For daily commutes, under 20 miles one way, they are perfect. For longer trips, you start using gas. What's the issue?

They are already forcing car companies to stop making vehicles that don't fit their guidelines. If you buy a vehicle with a V8 you have to pay a new tax. I own one of those cars, I had to pay extra when I bought the car, called "gas guzzler tax" and I pay again when I have to update my vehicle registration. Its the FEDS fucking people over for buying a reliable car and not a shitty EV that cant drive anywhere. I constantly drive up the East Coast and dont see a single place to charge an EV. I would get outside my city and be dead in the water with nowhere to go if it wasnt for my "gas guzzling" V8 car. BTW i get over 30 MPG on my car. so yeah.....facts hurt i know

In short, I think it's a fool's errand to focus on splitting hairs between conservation (the bill describes conservation as a "...careful preservation and protection, including planned management of the natural resources to prevent exploitation, destruction, or neglect. including water conservation and wildlife conservation") and restoration. Everyone agrees that we need to do BOTH. The real issue here is that we ALL need to deeply understand the BROADER ecological, economic, social, political and financial impact of EVs. Right now, we collectively do not, and running around simplifying it as a need to have both "conservation and restoration" is a thin veneer that makes many unconscious wannabee environmentalists feel good. This is why I say it is a poor argument. It doesn't go deeply enough into identifying and solving the real problem.
@@june-september The fossil fuel industry has consistently shown that conservation and restoration will never be as important than their quarterly profits. Therefore everyone *does not* agree that we need to do both (which is especially significant due to the lobbying power of the fossil fuel industry).
I agree that EVs are not the solution. There is no feasible solution to transition away from fossil fuels unless most of the developed world stops using them now and works together to develop sustainable energy infrastructures on a massive scale. Achieving that level of implementation will sadly be impossible before the worst of the effects of climate change are locked in. Even if all the policies to cut carbon that governments had put in place by the end of 2020 were fully implemented, the world will still warm by 3.2C this century. Governments and industry leaders will not take action, and people will not change their diets and lifestyles. It's already too late.

No doubt! Not to mention the possible explosion that can be involved. What happens when a big Hummer EV kisses a pole? Can the battery pack break open and explode? Or what about salty roads in northern climates. Will the battery start to corrode and slowly open up causing a toxic or exploding situation? We had a couple of those rechargeable lithium battery hoverboards and we were afraid to even keep them in our garage because peoples homes were burning down from the batteries exploding in them. We would take them out to our shed to store them just in case. which was a job as they are heavy to carry around.

We use oil to make so many things, one of the most important being fertilizer. Whether or not humanity quits using gasoline isn't an option, it's whether or not the next energy source is ready. All the other sources require electricity to be portable. It's either that or we go back to the dark ages. Oh, and you can't destroy cobalt, its an element. But you can easily recycle it.

I find it fascinating that huge numbers of countries have severe limitations on outside - non-national - ownership. In Mexico a gringo can't own the whole business, but can be an involved investor, but cannot hold a controlling interest. If it's a product people want, and it works well, then it will grow by itself.
Forcing the product, like forcing EVs, wind power, and solar power, cuts out the rule of supply and demand, and requires massive public funding and arbitrary 'green' taxation, to offset the inherently expensive and unprofitable wind and solar power... and the extremely expensive EVs, being only really a luxury product for rich people to show off, as they are so incredibly expensive and inefficient, even with rebates and other monetary incentives.

EVs can't replace ICE engines with current technology
Not only battery tech, but this doesn’t even touch upon basic infrastructure. Take the power it takes to recharge a phone then scale that to a car, and people want to charge their cars in a hour or two. Which means higher amps. most buildings and places are not in any way built for this. It will create brown outs in areas that rarely or never had them .
Even from an energy balance standpoint.

34.5 trillion and counting. The Dems keep wasting billions of dollars on an EV market that is and will fail. The American people do not want it!
That's it? Nothing else? How is debt accrued? Printing too much money for government use, and not creating enough wealth for the token taxation (taxation that can never hope to meet money printing levels, but having to be used as a way to make people believe that money is stable and real, and give them confidence in it as a system, so they don't fear its inherent fragility without being tied to a physical reserve of wealth, like gold).
Getting mining and manufacturing back in your country will help to increase local wealth generation, instead of exporting wealth to China, and meaning less money will need to be printed by your socialist politicians.

Battery cars is craziness. Batteries cost more than a motor when they go out. Who can afford 10 grand for battereis. Even they dont last for you to get to a destination 12 hours away.

So instead of picking one of his spurious statements she pointed out his fallacy (much more politely than needed, I would say) and then addressed as many as possible. In fact I would say she answered them. So you screaming that she should "answer the question" doesn't seem reasonable to me. What did he ask that you feel she didn't answer?
