    Corrections:
    - William will be the first British monarch since Queen Anne to descend from Charles I, not the first "Stuart-descended" king. (All British monarchs from George I on descend from James I).
    - The current Earl Spencer is named Charles, not John.

Could you at least include the wives of the people here. I would like to see other siblings that the heirs or people you are focusing on but I understand it would get messy. But the family trees without wives look odd and we could see more interesting connections from those, now only some are included.

Well, Charles I was a Stuart, so you were right. And as you said, not through the line that the Jacobites count. Also, All monarchs from 1603 descend from James I, as even William III was a grandson of James I through his mother, Mary Stuart, and the Cromwells were officially not monarchs.

It is ironic just how aristocratic Diana was. This was downplayed at the time of their marriage, both because she had no title but also because she is effectively more of a blueblood aristocrat from a long and illustrious family than Charles is. Charles is from an effectively German family.

Very true. Being a noble is a constant. Royal dynasties come and go. They treated Diana much as the press treated Jimmy Carter - and labeled him a "peanut farmer". I seem to remember the press characterizing Ronald Reagan as a lifeguard - not a former Democrat and president of a trade union. Funny how all this works... 🤷‍♂️

How could I know about her lineage, her virginity, as a child, without her lineage being crowed about, examined, vetted as approval worthy. Charles didn't pick Diana. THE FIRM DID. And they definitely knew what they were getting from her,. when they chose her to become the DNA for their FIRM. To be their brood mare. All ya'll, are trying to change history.

Which is why Queen Elizabeth II encouraged Prince Charles to marry a Spencer woman, either Lady Sarah, Diana's older sister, or Lady Diana. Charles married Lady Diana, and their son, Prince William, carries both Stuart blood in him from the deposed monarchy, as well as Windsor blood, uniting the two claims. It's similar to the united houses of York and Lancaster through Henry Tudor's marriage to Elizabeth of York, producing King Henry VIII of England.

What do you mean when you say "royal"? The Spencers only have a british royal connection through two illegitimate Stuart lines while the Windsors are descendants of a legitimate line. They are also related to many european noble dynasties (like the Houses of Welf, Hohenzollern and Mecklenburg or the royal House of Denmark), all of which are way older than the Spencer or Churchill families. The House of Wettin itself (to which Queen Elizabeth technically belongs) can trace it origins back to the 10th century. Margrave Frederick I. of Meissen, a direct male-line ancestor of the Queen, was the grandson of Emperor Frederick II., so the Wettins can even claim to be the rightful heirs to the House of Hohenstaufen as well as to the previous imperial dynasties (the Salians and Ottonians).

Many people from cultures that practice some form of ancestor worship can do that. We don't have to be part of the elite to do so. Families in said cultures often keep written records or detailed oral traditions of the family tree that keeps accumulating with each generation and gets passed down.
In some countries/areas (whose civilizations are thousands of years old), Family registries are incredibly important government documents that act as social security. Even poor working class can trace their ancestors and family origins back to regional tribes and clans that they branched off from.

The 11th Duke used to walk around the palace turning off all the lights because he didn't want the high electricity bill - and then we had to go around after him turning them all back on again because the palace is open to visitors! There's also a Winston Churchill exhibition at the palace, as he was also born there (and is also buried there). I would love a series on ancient cities, whether they were like (for example Babylon), whether they are more likely to be myths (for example Atlantis and El Dorado), and what their contribution (mythic or real ) has been to modern civilization.

Following another of Matt's videos the current heir of the jacobite succession is the future prince of Liechtenstein. Quite funny when you think about it. Revolting several times against german princes just to watch another german prince becoming the heir to one's preferred succession line :D
But the Diana part is, intentional or not, at least a bit of reconciliation between the two factions.
I guess the best thing to happen in this regard would be if the future prince of Liechtenstein had a daughter who married Prince George.

Hi, I know this is an old video, but based on your recent video on a lot of US presidents being related to each other in some way I have been compiling data and making a chart on how a lot of UK prime ministers are related to each other. Interestingly someone who holds a lot of prime ministers together is on this chart, that being Henrietta Churchill, 2nd Duchess of Marlborough. Her daughter married prime minister Thomas Pelham-Holmes (4th PM) who can be linked to the 3 before him relatively easily, and her son married Maria Catherina de Jonge who remarried Sir William Wyndham whose daughter links to the Grenville and Pitt families, and George Grenville's (7th PM) mother was a descendent of the hugely influential Temple family which links to more still. Also Winston Churchill's niece married Anthony Eden which was another easy link within the Spencer-Churchill Dynasty. When I have finished the chart (I currently have 13 PMs on it) I hope that you can use it in a video. I hope you see this

Can you do a video on the branches of the House of Oldenburg and the many partitions of Schleswig Holstein and also why the full Gluksburg house name is so long?

    • @dorderre
      @dorderre Před 2 lety +11

Schleswig and Holstein were two principalities in the borderland between the HRE and Denmark.
When a member of the Oldenburg family became ruler of this area, he was styled Count (Graf) of Schleswig-Holstein.
When this family eventually split into several cadet branches, each of them kept the main Schleswig-Holstein part of the name and added the region where their (smaller) dominion was located, for example the branch ruling in the area of Sonderburg became "Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg".
When this branch later split again into branches located in Augustenburg or Glücksburg, they did the same, keeping the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg part and added the part where they were living, thus creating "Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg" or "Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg".
And I wanna bet if that line had split again, they'd done the exact same thing again creating an even longer string of place names for an even smaller part of the realm :D
Funfact: the later Romanows were also part of this multi branch family. When the Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorps married into the Romanow family, they created the line of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp-Romanow, but since the "Romanow" part was far more famous/prestigious than a junior branch of some random german principality, they were calling themselves just "Romanow".

@@sarahcrowley2277 I do agree with French and also Spanish. According to my brother's YDNA group... Irish are predominantly black hair. If you have red hair in the family it usually means of some Scottish ancestry. I've been researching my ancestry for 49 years and working with DNA (at, mt, and Y) since 2016. However, we are all made up from various parts of the European world. We are all a mix of many cultures... the further you go back. One side of my English traces back to Scotland, while the other side to Ireland (one set of maternal great grands). My other set of maternal great grands are from Prussia (along the Rhineland in what we know as Germany), but actually they were Jewish before converting. Yet another from my maternal great grands is my India connection, our Romani Gypsy heritage. My paternal is Irish with a spit of Danish. Research has also brought me to Spain on my Irish. There is still today a town in Spain that are Irish and I have DNA connections there. It's really quite interesting.
