      @0:01 I am here and back to give some nightmares at @UsefulCharts once again. He better have made a detailled map of Obama's patrilineal lineage.
      Edit (yeah, so soon!) : @1:56 the name of this body of water is now (and has always been) officially *Lake Nyanza (or Nyanza)* . Not *Victoria.* We are not great fans of colonial names in most African countries.
      Second Edit: @2:28 Not forcibky an erroneum, but Baraka rathers refers to its Swahili meaning (which is exactly the same in Arabic) . Obama is a princely Luo surname - as Luo people dwelling east of Nyanza doesn't have a monarchical system of kinglets and united kingdoms, but rather of Principalities and High Chieftainships. Well, I disgress-- - which means "Fiery Celestial Javelin" and holds homonymous kinship to various Central African royals from the Great Lakes region/Central Northeast Africa and the Congo basin, such as the Ilunga/Olenga Dynasty sho reigned over the Kingdom of Anzicana and some of his fiefdoms from early 14th century AD to its dissolution by colonial European powers around 1885-1891; and many others via intermarriages between Nilotic headships and other royals in Middle African, as well as a common royal BaChwezi heritage between Obama's patrilineal lineage and various Central African royalties dating back to the Chwezi Dynasty of the Kitara Empire (c. 630 AD - early 14th century AD) . Thus, Baraka Obama roughly means _"Holy Fiery Javelin Descending From Heaven"_ , a very powerful naming laden with ancestral mystical significance in Africa.
      At last, I see that you've stopped the genealogical tree of Obama's paternal line to his grandparents. Bery dissapointing. We can literally trace Obama's patrilineal ancestry back to his 8th great-grandfather 16th century Nyanza Acholi princeling and warlord Owinyi Rac Koma / Owinyi Ramogi of the Nyanza region (c. 1544 - c.1571) ; foremost founding headship of the Kenyan Luos east of Nyanza, son of Sigoma, son of Rukidi Rugwe/Mwiru & Princess Nyatooro, daughter of Princr Nyabongo, descendant of the princeling Olimi I of the Banyoro-Kitara, descendant of Rukidi I / Labongo who founded in 14th century the petty mixed Luo/Acholi/Chollo-and-Chwezi-descended kingdom of Banyoro-Kitara (14th century-late 19th century) which succeeded to the fallen Kitara Empire after overthrowing their Chwezi/Hima overlords. Obama's paternal heritage is very ancient and renowmed in Africa: we can trace his paternal origins not just to the Kenyan plains and hill-lands east of the Nyanza Lake, but also to the Kitara region, eastern DRC, the Nilotes of South Sudan and the Nuba Mountains, the Nobataes of Roman antiquity, the triumvirate of Christian Nubian kingdoms in present-day Sudan, ancient Kush, the Aksumite Kingdom/Abyssinia via the Jewish (later Christian) Aksumite kings of Adulis and Aksum in late 3rd century AD and 9th century AD Pagan-Jewish Empress Gudit alike (after their nation conquerred the Great Lakes region and East Africa twice over the 1st Millenium AD) , the Ethiopian Macrobian overrulers of the Azanian Empire in Hellenistic then Roman Antiquity, the Bagratidae Dynasty of 9th century Georgia and the South Caucasus region (via a second marriage between Gudit and a foreign "Syrian" or Georgian Christian prince) , Near Eastern royals of Antiquity and the early Middle Ages (including the Davidic Exilarchate) , the Hellenistic kingdoms, ancient Rome, ancient Numidia; and at last but not to say the least Pharaonic Egypt (thrice, via both his distant Upper Nile Chollo, Chwezi and Abyssinian-Bagratid heritage) , and moreso Puntite royalty dating back to the legendary tribal Anu Dynasty (Imanujela or Ba-Tembuzi Dynasty for others) of African prehistory, whom the latter legendary Anu-domineered House of Keb/Geb (fabled dynastic tribe whom the God Osiris and his brethren belonged to, in Egyptian mythology) was spawned forth.

      You forgot Obama’s mother’s Dutch ancestry, with the line that goes through Djirksie Meyer and Enoch M Vreeland.
      My line also goes through the above two individuals, but that’s where it splits, as I’m a descendant of Enoch Vreeland and then his daughter, Eve, or Effie, or Effje. Different documents have her name spelled differently, but it’s clear she married a fellow name Anthony Maxwell. They had several children, Maria, who died as a small child, William, my ancestor, dying in the revolution, Cornelius Maxwell, a messenger to Congress and married Ruth Dunn, Enoch Maxwell, who served in the NY Militia, his likely twin sister, Mary Van Horn Maxwell, and Anthony Maxwell who served in Malcolm’s regiment and likely was part of the Battle of Trenton and Married eve Platner, and Eve Maxwell, who married into the Cronin family.
      William had a young son around the time the revolution broke out named Joseph. Then Joseph had a son named Anthony who may have been an explorer in and around the time of Andrew Jackson’s presidency. He possibly explored Glacier National park. His son, Joseph competed in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show against Annie Oakley. His son William, worked on the railroad, and his son Robert, served in WAII.

    The name “Barack” comes from the Arabic name “Mubarak”, which is cognate to the Hebrew name “Baruch”. All of the names translate to “blessed”. Both names are also cognate to the Latin name “Benedictus”, commonly shortened to “Benedict”. So technically, Barack Obama, Baruch Spinoza, and Benedict Cumberbatch all have first names meaning the same thing.

    I believe in 2012, Ancestry did a report on Barack Obama’s ancestry focusing on his mother family. It was about 50 pages long and included information about his mother likely having an ancestor named John Punch. They also included that a male relative of his mother with the last name Bunch had done a DNA test that confirmed the relative’s Y-chromosome was of West African origin and matched close enough to descendants of John Punch to suggest a strong likelihood of shared ancestry in the direct male line. John Punch was an enslaved man in Colonial Virginia who married a white woman prior to the passage of an “anti-miscegenation” law in the 1660s and they had children who took their legal status from their mother (partus sequitur ventrem) making them free people of color. Their children also became slave holders themselves and had interracial marriages. Today a large number of their descendants are white and many probably aren’t aware of their African ancestry. While it isn’t 100% certain, it is noteworthy that his white mother is very likely a descendant of an enslaved African man and had been described as the first official enslaved African slave in the 13 colonies, at least that can be documented in official legal documents.

Her ancestors were diverse: English, Irish, Scottish, German, French and some other European groups I may not be aware of. She was a descendant of an African(s) who were enslaved in the US. Further the family also has trace or very small amounts of Indigenous American from what is now a likely extinct tribe from the Eastern US. Her ancestors also would have had some Jewish and or Arabic ancestry.
    Ann was my 4th cousin which would have made former President Obana my 5th cousin.
    His African family is not the only ones to have experienced poverty. His American cousins on his mom's side also experienced it here in the US including a few who were actually homeless. Such is life.

So, I was in a cab one day during my stay there, and I began to relate how my family had some Dunham relations and Obama could very well be related to me (just conjecture on my part). Barack is also from the Swahili word "baraka" which means blessings. Swahili is Kenya's native language and it makes sense that Obama Sr. derived the name from his local dialect. Worth noting is that Swahili evolved from Arabic and in fact, many words are shared between the two languages. Examples: Salam aleikum (Swahili), salaam a’leikum (Arabic), Karibu (Swahili) and qareeb (Arabic), Salama (Swahili), Salaam (Arabic), halali (Swahili), halaal (Arabic), hasara (Swahili), khasaarah (Arabic), etc. So there's debate whether Barack came from the Swahili local dialect spoken by his father or Arabic since he had converted to Islam or both

    • @thomaspatterson1789
      @thomaspatterson1789 Před rokem +3

      Swahili did not evolve from Arabic, it is a Bantu language that borrowed words from Arabic. @anon5041 Před rokem +4

      @@thomaspatterson1789 Obama's family is from the western side of the country around lake victoria. They are river-lake nilotes. The Luo tribe. Also, although linguistically categorised as a Bantu language, Swahili developed historically by borrowing a number of words from foreign languages, particularly Arabic. That's why I said it evolved from Arabic. Maybe I should have used a different word, but English is not my first language. Swahili is. Per Wikipedia, around 40% of the Swahili vocabulary consists of Arabic loanwords, including the name of the language itself (سَوَاحِلي sawāḥilī) meaning 'of the coast'. Swahili is predominantly spoken in Kenya and Tanzania and is no longer native ONLY to the coastal region or bantu communities. Many speakers esp those in urban areas speak Swahili as their mother-tongue. Kenya and Tanzania national anthems are in Swahili. I grew up speaking the language myself and am not a bantu or from the coast but it is my native/first language.

I read somewhere his mom's surname would have been Bunch, which originally was Punch, via a freed or escaped African slave who married White, whose descendants also did so, leading to today, where there are thousands of Bunches who have an African Y haplogroup, but who are otherwise almost or are entirely European genetically. How did this story come into the story of Obama's maternal grandfather's line? I assume your scholarship is better than whoever shared that story.
