So quite a few people have asked if Maura Liath is the same tank engine in Caledonian Twins, that was pushed into the ocean. The writer, Iris Isabelle, when showing it on Twitter said that it was written back in January and based on what happened in that story. After asking her about it, this story is somewhat a sequel, as the harbour is in Scotland, but at the same time, it can easily work as a separate story, since there are no mentions of Diesel 5 and the Scottish twins. At first, I was going to go with the idea that the tank engine and Maura-Liath are the same, until some people pointed out that the tank engine was referred to as male and Maura-Liath is female. However, I realised that alternatively, she can be one of Diesel 5's other victims, since it was said they were pushed either into the ocean, or down hills.
So, in answer to the question, Maura-Liath isn't the tank engine in Caledonian Twins, but is instead one of the other victims.
What is the name of Maura-Liath's sister? They seem extreamly interesting characters I've been thinking of featuring them in an upcoming series but as different characters in which they are bought to work at Knapford Harbor Maura-Liath is the older caring sister so the other with the one each trouble would be shy but what is her name?
@@michaelbenitez539 ask the owner of the characters, not him, he only did the adaptation.
@@jacob2954 Ok it looks like Maura-Liath seems like an emgine that wanted to help her sister but ended up scrapped after being in the ocean
@@michaelbenitez539 Sorcha Clach
@@ajaxengineco Ok Thank you
Kinda funny we're getting a story about an engine trapped under the ocean just a few days after Salty feel into the ocean and somehow survived
also bloody hell this got sad but was still brilliantly written
...same
They got him out in time
What episode did salty fall in the sea I can’t find the Thomas episode
@@crackerhack5299 Steam Team to the Rescue
This was my sister's story (and she painted the thumbnail too!). Thank you so much for all of the support, I am proud of her and she is very talented!
Ur sister painted the picture?
Very interesting story. Sad that Maura-Liath was scrapped after being found. Does make me wonder if Maura-Liath was the tank engine that was killed in The Caledonia Twins.
She actually wasn't. I recall in that story D5's victim was referred to as being male.
He killed 5. Maybe it was that one, but, it could be one of the other 4.
@@dylan_daugherty_ @Narrow Gauge has confirmed her to be one of the other four victims of Diesel 5.
I Think it was for the best. It looks like Restoration would either have been too expensive, or impossible to do.
Adding to that? She _wanted_ to die, rather than suffer from the Rust and Water.
I feel it's sadder that She'd never knew that the Caledonian Twins helped bring her Murderer(s) to justice... Or that he was scrapped to began with.
You do make a good point, Dom.
But what if Maura-Liath is one of Sonny's Class Members?
This is one story of such I **never** heard of before ever written in or outside of the fandom at all, and this is the first time that I'm hearing about one adapted for this yearly series I really love. I had imagined this to be intensively dark from how the name sounded and what the painted might've represented, but it came out with a sad terrific story afterwards.
Somehow, though, I constantly thought I could make out the looks of a deformed, rotted face within the rust on Maura-Liath.
I would like to think that as opposed to being merely the effect of the salty water, the deformity of the face might have been simultaneously emotionally-stimulated by uncertainty in her position advancing the corrosion until all that was left was her concealed decaying mind-processer. I'd also like to think that had another engine shown sympathy for her carcass and the fixed focus to make her worthy again despite everything that had happened, her face could either recompose itself - not like by magical pixels but you know a steady love-empowered regrowth - or else reconstructed from her old template. Samuel F.
Alternate ending: the red diesel: "don't worry we'll restore you to your former glory and you'll be able to run excursion trains diesels are such a common place people who love to see a steam engine," and then she was fixed and to this very day she runs excursion trains through the railway grateful that she was given a second chance those days still haunt her but she and most of the other diesels put it aside and as it would turn out the diesels that it's now been on this railway we're actually really good spirited engines (also note the tank engine looks a lot like the Belloroofin tank engine which is actually the inspiration for the Thomas and Friends character named Soony)
Except she was already dead, it was her soul at the bottom of the harbor
Wow...this brought up something actually kind of sweet. We all know what death is for a engine. . .but not what comes afterwards. Reincarnation sounds nice for their kind. Despite being a horror story, at least behind the bitter taste is a happy ending and hope for Maura Liath's reincarnation to reunite with her sister.
This shit is deep. Like really I don’t think any other story makes you think or feel as much as this does
I have spoken to the writer of this story before, but in my young tween age never bothered to listen to the story. I just got done listening to it and I gotta say, Iris has a knack for writing! I wonder if she has written a novel before...
This story is a masterpiece. I’m glad I took the time to listen to it.
To me, the most horrible bit about this story is the fact that her soul is still trapped inside the engine
At first, I thought this was gonna be like one of Salty's stories. Then, I heard no mention of sailors and such like.
Regardless, that is one beautiful tale.
Let's hope Maura-Liath comes back in another life as her sister had.
Quite a sad and beautiful tale, feeling a few tears though also this gives me vibes from Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean.
The picture alone For some reason it gives me chills
Oh, Maura-Liath, engine of the ocean, what is your wisdom?
It's too bad she never found out what the real cause behind her death was and that Donald and Douglas took care of her killer. Though this left me with a few very disturbing questions... Is the other tank engine still "alive"? Did the other three victims have a similar fate and are they still "alive" too? And is this fate the worst fate an engine can suffer, being more gruesome than being abandoned on some siding, a crash, or scrapping? I mean, let's put it this way... Being left to rot at the bottom of the ocean, with no guarantee your misery will ever end. You can feel and see yourself rotting, but no matter how hard you try to cry or scream, no one and nothing can hear you. No one knows you exist, everyone you know is gone and your name and your story have gone down with you. All that's left is for you to stare into the blue abyss day after day, left to talk to and think to only yourself, knowing that unless something puts you out of your misery, you can never truly die and escape this fate.
Just the way Maura-Liath's life under water is described reminds me of the short story, "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream".
Well, if they were to be related in some way, this story ought to be called "I Have No Eyes And I Must Cry". It'd be very fitting because of how sad this story is.
You've just earned yourself another subscriber... Your Horror on the Rails series is really damn good.
What a heart breaking story.
That was another great story, I could almost make out a face on the smokebox of Maura-Liath.
Nickolas Montagnino u said it, m8!!
i can see most her face too
@Nickolas Montagnino maybe you could do a remake of it in trainz simulator version. but you need to ask @narrow gauge to barrow and use his auto to make this remake of his audio.
@Nickolas Montagnino you also do a another remake audio of left behind in trainz version too. again you had to ask permission to @narrow gauge for the audio to make it first.
Trainfan JPT Good idea
Wait... That red diesel in the story... WAS THAT SALTY?!
Does salty have a messed up eye and is called Sinbad
@@Station_Master_13 well there goes my theory
@@TSK_27 sorry
@@Station_Master_13 its ok
@@Station_Master_13 I'm just saying, Salty's eye might get messed up one day in a thomas fan video
A great story overall and probably one of the most saddest one I've ever heard/read, especially towards the ending.
Maura-Liath kind of looks like Bellerophen to me.
Same
The music near the end actually makes me cry when I hear it.
I swear i can see her face:
One eye of sadness and a mouth of despair , like this:😧
@The Seth Siding I use the android emoji, keep in mind. More like:😟
4:34 Ohhhh Trust me, Missy, The reason you're there, is _Definately_ because of _a_ Diesel Engine.
Shame there's no footnote story where she visits the Caledonian Twins in their sleep, and finds out they scrapped her Murderer and gave her Death Justice.
Would have been heartwarming in a bittersweet manner.
Maybe it was the narrow gauge engine from the episode Duncan gets spooked where rusty tolds him a ghost train
story.
Interesting idea, but it does state that Maura Liath was near a dock while in Duncan Gets Spooked the engine fall off a bridge.
Wow that’s more sad than scary. Fantastic job at adapting this story
Cool video mate, thanks to Iris for writing the story.
I really like the sires, keep up the good work.
Wait a minute... How could this engine have survived (somewhat) being under the ocean for so long yet that tank engine Diesel 5 pushed from the key in _Caledonian Twins_ died not too long after?
Maura Liath did die, but her ghost is trapped in her frames. She died physically, but not quite mentally
How did duke survive without Oxygen in that shed for so long
@@Ashjacks32209 Remember the trees that grew? Trees provide oxygen, so Duke could potentially get air. And the ground around his shed was weak to large amounts of weight. Hence how the Fat Clergyman was able to fall right through the roof of the shed.
@@narrowgauge9717 What class engine is Maura-Liath?
Now this is Pain. Pain that an engine should never experience. Having their soul trapped in a dead body below the sea. That is torture Unending. None of my OC's would wish a fate like that upon even their worst enemy.
In fact, I would go as far as to say that Even Grab Lock, the North Sodor Smelters Yard Grabber, with is wicked desire to watch engines and other vehicles get scraped, wouldn't want to see any vehicles suffer a fate like that. In those kinds of scenarios, Grab Lock would drop that vehicle into the furnace, not to get joy out of watching them get melted down, but to put them out of their endless suffering.
That was amazing
Well done keep up the good work
Oh my god. I love the video
Wow this is a good story
Hot take: Maura Liath is an LNER j88. I say this because a j88 fell into the Harbour at Kirkcaldy in 1954. Instead of fishing her out and scrapping her, they probably left her in Kirkcaldy Harbour.
The writing reminds me of lovecraft's work.
Maura-liath's name means "Star Of The Sea" and "Grey" in Irish might I suggest that she died while Diesel 5 was on another railway since her name hints her being Irish and this takes place in Scotland?
Holy Fuck This Is So Sad But I Love It So Much,I Actually Teared Up A Bit At The End
Hi Narrow Gauge. Been watching the horror of the rails for a year now. And you never cease to amaze me with these amazing and intriguing stories that can make one's mind run wild. On a side note. Is there any particular engine that Maura Liath is based on? Or is she a freelance design?
Thank you and to answer your question, I'm not sure. The writer never mentioned it when I started adapting the story. I might ask her about it.
@@narrowgauge9717 ,please do .
I'm sorry It's taken so long to reply again, but Maura Liath is based on a welsh engine called Amalthea.
@@narrowgauge9717 , thank you for answering. Sadly the engine Maura liath was based on was also scrapped. Though Maura liath's situation reminds me of the story, and film adaptation of Johnny got his gun, the idea of wanting death, but unable to have that request granted. Though at least Maura liath's suffering was ended.
Reminds me of the ghost engine in Duncan Gets Spooked.
What if they actually tried to restore her?
They can’t, she physically died. Her perspective is her ghost trapped within her body
Besides, her body is FUBAR'd and would be impossible to repair if she was somehow still alive.
I'm not crying you are
WOW JUST WOW
Noice story! R u gonna do one on Clinchfield 311??
He's nit. Please let others know not to spam him by asking that.
My gosh! This was sad to watch....why do I feel that D5/Caledonian twins has something to do with this
A few people have asked about that and I explained it in a pinned comment.
So, Salty's the re-incarnation of the other engine?
I think so
i see that ur PFP is the ACE 3000, my favorite locomotive concept
its Sinbad
No
It’s not salty
Her: He’s probably thinking about some other woman...
Him: Is Maura-Liath actually Lady?
*think about it*
...Holy fuck.
Not likely
At least she is finally at peace.....
What will this stepney story be about
Wait, her face dissolved?
I just thought of something
what if you were to take the name plate off one engine
Scrap that same engine
And take EVERY piece of metal
and rebuild a new engine from there
would the same engine be reborn or a new engine come to life???
Reincarnated
So where did her soul go
When i saw the thumbnail I thought it was one of the two engines that where blown up by a bombing on the ship (that was a real life story)
Good Story and all, but how does this fit into the horror genre?
Which uk engine class is Maura liath is based off of
Would be a shame if somebody did a trainz remake of this…
*sad Irish noises*
What class is Maura-liath
She kinda looks like Sonny
What's the music in the intro?
Why is this video not moving
Can we get an f in the comments for Maura-Liath?
is that thomas and friends?
Are you dumb 🚂 with faces
So Maura Liath wasn't reincarnated like her sister?
With permission I would like to make a model of Maura-Liath pre-accident please?
I like the idea, but truthfully, you need permission from Iris Isabelle, who wrote the story and thus, the character is hers. Her Twitter is in the description.
Rur
it depressing
good theory: this engine is the guy who dies in calednian twins
@@sk3tyy578 nope
where's the stephany story?
That will come out October 31st.
Will something in the mine appear on the 31st as well
The Stepney story is Something in the Mine.
Is that the same tank engine that Diesel 5 killed?!
Doesn't seem to be. The tank engine from "Caledonian Twins" was referred to male.
@@andrewboyd8073 oh...
@@andrewboyd8073 ok 👌
@@andrewboyd8073 wait... That red diesel in the story... WAS THAT SALTY?!
It could be one of Diesel 5's other 4 victims. It was mentioned that he killed 4 other engines before that tank engine
if save Maura Liath I will restore her to her former glory
