Thank you to everyone who watched this during, or after the premiere. I really like this premiere feature and will definitely do it more with other videos. I hope you enjoyed HOTR as a whole throughout this month. This was the first time I've done a mini-series like this, so I apologise if it's not perfect. I'm certainly planning on doing more audio stories after this and possibly, for next Halloween.
Another thanks to all the voice actors who took part in these videos. They wouldn't work as well as they did, if it weren't for your performances.
I'll be making an update video soon discussing what is to come for the rest of this year and 2019 (e.g. future IFRS episodes).
Until then, thank you for watching and Happy Halloween!
Are you going to continue the series
Also Duncan and sir Handel never appeared in the original episode? But it’s 😎 to here them 👍🏻
I don’t remember Rhneas pulling a coach?
Why are you saying it’s not perfect it is most certainly definitely perfect
Narrow Gauge this story and still is absolutely perfect to listen to and from one of my favourite Thomas and Friends episodes
“We should’ve let this part of the island...
...alone.”
Rusty is sure that on a clear night, it is gazing up at the mountain, and that it’s sighs are being carried on the winds where it once used to stand, proud and silent.
I wonder if Rusty is right.
Don’t you?
Here is what I imagine to be, the Story of Boulder. Once, many Centuries ago, in the Century of 1500 BC ( BCE ), during the Ancient Sudrian times on Sodor. Their was this Sudrian Tribesmen who was a bit of a Nut Case in his tribe. He loves rocks, a little to much for his own good. He loves rocks so much, he wanted to make a way he could become one, be one with the Stones. He decided to take a Giant Boulder, on top of one of the Mountains and craft it into a stone he can become. He found a viable Boulder, and he started to chisel away until the Boulder was perfectly Round. After his craft was complete, he started doing rituals so that he can become the Boulder he rounded. The years past, and the rituals went on. This crazy man did manage to have Children, so he can pass down his knowledge of stones, however, he Kept the rituals to himself. He kept on doing them until the day he Died. After he died, his spirit came to possess the Boulder he had done those rituals around so many times. After the Man Became Boulder, he used his Ghostly magic to Ward off all other Sudrian Tribes from the area, and finally the Man ( Now Boulder) was at peace.
Over 1000 Years Passed, and nothing changed in that time for Boulder, that was, Until the Plate Way was built. The people came to mine the Copper out of the mountains and that didn’t settle to well with Boulder for he felt that His Perch deserved to remain Untouched and left alone. He started to use his Ghosty magic to scare the miners away, and it did, for a Short Time. The Plate way was ripped up and Boulder felt that he accomplished his goal, and fell back to sleep, but that nap was short lived for soon after the Plate Way was ripped up, The Skarloey Railway was built. Seeing the new intruders ( Skarloey & Rheneas) made Boulder extremely furious. He did his Ghosty magic more, but that didn’t stop the Mining. Boulder realized that it was going to take a lot more then Ghost tricks to get the miners to Scram, so Boulder went on the Offensive, and destroyed the workmen’s Hut. Boulder was pleased that the Mines were closed after this. Out of view from Everyone, he climbed up the Mountain and went back up to his Perch, and went back to sleep. Then the Events of this Video happened. Boulder saw that more people came and their was a Whole Load of New engines, and that made Boulder more angry than Ever. When the rain came, Rusty came to inspect, then Rusty looked up, he thought he saw a Face on Boulder. Boulder was looking down at Rusty, disgusted at his presence. Then Boulder threw a rock down at Rusty as a way to tell him “Go away, I want to Be Alone”, so Rusty Left. Later, while Thumper was drilling, Boulder finally decided that Enough was Enough and he was going to make the Engines and all the People leave for Good. He rolled down the mountain and Terrorized the Railway and the Engines. He crashed into the engine shed and used his magic to cause a blaze. When Boulder heard the Thin Controller say “We should have left this part of the island alone”, Boulder was finally happy. But, then Boulder was moved to the Hill, and now he Sighs for his Perch that he used to stand on Proud, Silent and Alone.
An interesting theory
All mountains have their secrets.
-Burnett stone
We miss burnett
That mountain had a very deadly secret
When did he say that?
In Thomas and The Magic Railway
This feels like a Railway Series Adaptation of the story.
I like it.
thumper he was shown in five nights at smudgers 3
thumper he was shown in five nights at smudgers 3
I agree 👍🏻
@@mikolaurison2756wut?
Duncan: muahahahaha! Scary boulder indeed! It's as tame as a pet rabbit.
He said
Boulder: bet
**After the boulder**
Me: you were saying?
When will Duncan learn to not say something is as tame as a pet rabbit
Anyone else here want him to do a Duncan Gets Spooked story?
“We should have left this part of the island..... alone....”
i regret only now listening to this
this was brilliant
Dear God. I'm left speechless. This was amazing. More dramatic. More emotional. More characters. Even giving the bolder a backstory. This story really makes me believe that this part of the island is haunted by some form of spirit.
I always thought of Sodor as being a Celtic nation in the old days. So that’s not far fetched at all. Stories of spirits and such seem very fitting.
I love how u addressed the issue of you know the spontaneous combustion of that shed.only gripe was that there was that neither Sir Handel or Duncan said “OH no,HEADING STRAIGHT FOR ME!”
I really like how dramatic and emotional this was, this makes the story better than the original episode, I wish the episode was done like this
Thank you. That was mainly the reason why I wrote this. For as much as I love the original episode, I felt it would have been better if there was more context behind it, as well as seeing the perspectives of other characters.
Oh yeah, definitely, and I almost cried when rusty did, I felt his fear and sadness, the emotions felt real in this, even when the audio wasn’t the best, you still felt for them, and I liked that
@@narrowgauge9717Based on the S5 episode,”Rusty and the Boulder”
This expansion and rewrite really makes the original more mysterious and sinister.
Good job in casting Victor as the Scottish twins again. Anytime you start another audio production, please be sure to sign me up. You're probably aware of my reputation in the community. ;)
Thank you and I'm certainly aware of your talent in other projects. I'll be sure to keep you in mind if I do another audio production that requires a cast.
Hi again. I know it's been a while, but I'm doing another HOTR series and I have a role you might want. Is there a way I can message you privately, like Twitter or email?
@@narrowgauge9717 Sorry I missed that. (But I'm sure you can find my email address on my channel.)
Narrow Gauge I’m happy to voice act if you ever need it. I only got headphones for mic but I was Henry in PhoenixJames’s “Engine adventures” pilot and am cast as Edward in Denthur’s Henry the green engine project that’s in development
I can be Thomas
Gosh! That's a lot more darker and dramatic than the actual episode itself, but brilliant at the same time!
You and many others done a terrific job with your character performances and you did provide a good backstory about the Boulder. For such an audio drama, it's another one of the best work I've ever seen!
“There it lay, like a oppressive sentinel over all of us, smooth and shaped, it couldn’t of been natural, the stone could only of been melded by human hands. There was an air of uneasiness around the site, we felt something looking upon our backs as we worked, we all did even if we didn’t admit it and kept brushing it off. But it could be felt, on breaks we nary talked, something was watching us and we all knew where it came from. I looked up at the Boulder, maybe it was just the tension getting to me, but I swore, I saw a face in that stone. Every small shift of dirt from above us felt like a threat, a warning of what’s to come if we didn’t stop and leave. Then, it finally happened, all those threats culminating. It was only thanks to divine providence that no was was killed. The Master Controller was right, there’s something not right with that place.”
As Rusty & The Boulder is my favourtie episode of the entire show I really enjoyed this adaption.
This must be a podcast for Spotify. I'd listen to it everyday!
11:18 "the ground constantly shuddered". Boulder looks to me to be about 5 meters (15ft) in diamteter. I may be well off, but a sphere of rock that size would weigh something like 240 tons. That kind of weight could crush nearly anything.
still you can't deny a rock that size in RL would cause some amazing ammount of damage
but luckily there isn't anything that large or even spherical to even demonstrate such a theory
A solid 170 ton rock. (Math certified)
That’s 3 MBT’s worth of rock
That could crush ANYTHING short of a ship
Or be crushed
We need to know what that is
@@Ty-yt3lj Or a bit less than one MAUS.
I think Boulder may have been a sort of idol worshipped by the druids that may have once lived on Sodor.
You know, this version reminds me of that talking tumbleweed from The Magic Railroad...maybe somebody would be willing to write a sort-of-sequel involving Lady? I wonder if she could actually 'talk' to Boulder and see what its deal is!
According to the artifact of Sodor. The rock was filled with spirits when it was tested.
Wth is artifact of sodor?
That’s creepy
Ok
What kind of spirits?
I can imagine this adapted into a cartoon, even if it was done in Trainz
I can’t wait to hear myself as rusty. I’m so excited
Great job as Rusty
Sorry it's taken me this long to comment, but very well done. I have always loved this episode and I like how you extended on it and given it a more RWS like feeling to it.
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
This was really good when I listened to this a while back. I also like the character change as well. Plus the lore behind Boulder was great
Gives the term "Boulder Dash" a whole new meeting.
That music For the boulder moving was super scary
This is the definitive version of this story. Just amazing, improved and expanded on one of the series’s best supernatural tales
I never understood what this story was about when I was a child watching the television series. Now this though, sends shivers down my spine.
You know...? Since this is set in 1972 and the episode you adapted it from was made in 1998, I have a possible theory, that maybe sometime before season 5 made an air, Britt Alcroft with some of her production staff perhaps learnt of the events from only Skarloey & Rusty, and promised not to reveal too much if the episode ever aired, perhaps finding the story as horrifying and worth altering to avoid frightening the audience too much, regardless of age. Think that's possible anyone...?
This is a good story, but I think it would have made the boulder more mysterious and frightening if you added the scene with Rusty driving backwards away from Boulder and stopped at a junction where the driver would say “We’ll stop here until the Boulder passes by” and Rusty would think he would be save, but then start getting worried again when he doesn’t see it pass by, and after they mysteriously hear and see Boulder behind them, Rusty would be terrified that not only was he being chased again, but also that it unnaturally appeared behind them and chases them, and it would have been nice to hear the line “Oh no, it’s heading right for us” down at the transfer yard where it heads to Sir Handle and Duncan
I see what you mean. The main reason I didn't include that scene was because It never really made sense to me. I understand there's a lot of mystery to the boulder, but the fact that it magically appeared behind Rusty always felt weird.
Yeah, because without that scene, how do you explain that Rusty was going from backwards to forward, but if you wanted to edit or rewrite/reupload this story, would you include that scene now that you know that?
Hearing this really makes me wish they did a sequel for the Boulder ep
I cant watch this without getting chills it's so well done
0:00 wow this music give me chills and it’s so haunting
I love to see this adapted into trainz
Place someone adapt this into trainz!😆
This boulder is basically the Thomas equivalent of the Majora's Mask moon.
"I wonder if rusty was right, don't you?"
Yeah, I do wonder if rusty was right, I actually do think that boulder was watching rusty
Yep. Much more scarier than the one that literally gave me nightmares all those years ago.
This was the scariest video of Halloween.
16:18 I see you Percy!
It was amazing to take part in this
Can’t wait to watch this and celebrate my birthday
Wait your birthday
Nice birthday
Bust’in my buffers not true
This is the best rusty and the boulder story adaptation ever. Personal it’s the best HOTR because it’s not about a ghost but about something that is not understood. Someone need to put this in trains or something.
This was one of my favourite stories by a Thomas fan well done.
Wow, this is a spooky adaption.
Best story ever! It’s amazing! 😊
Donald and Douglas: The bolder isn’t alive, it doesn’t have eyes.
Also Donald and Douglas: oh yea it’s probably the naughty gnomes Percy.
Not the Buried Ambience from Black Ops 3 on 2:27 😭😭💖💖💖
I love you so much for that!!!
your voices reminds me of ringo stars narration. good job
Good collab with Victor!
I love the use of the instrumental version of "Pareidolia" in this! Huge COD zombies fan, so that just gives this another point in my book. Anyway, fantastic adaptation/expansion of the original.
He then...looked up
10:35 JUMPSCARE!!!!
Man your intro is fantastic
It is only really now that I came to watch this in its entirety, and I was not dissapointed. I do not usually like to change existing stories as others do because 1: It diminshes the purity of the original work, and 2: It puts a restraint on my sense of creativity. However this is one time it works because the original was a story of thin ends, and the additions and adjustments actually added more weight to the overall story rather than deter from them; they made sense considering the ideas and placements established with the concerned characters in prior sources.
I did not really think the Ward Fell mines would be the ideal location on the Sodor map to place the boulder; I was going with the idea of setting it up at Ulfstead just off Thomas's branch line with a special narrow-gauge line going up into the mountain quarry, thus also justifying Thomas and Percy's presence as per the episode. The TV series does seem to imply the latter in a way but not directly. Still this alternate take really makes a lot of sense in my mind, and the presentation pays off whilst keeping the key moments from the original episode intact. As such I can safely say this would be my choice of a definite take of "Rusty and the Boulder" without a doubt.
Regards, Samuel Farris.
Duncan is evil! But at least he didn't have a go at Rusty for sleeping in the carriage shed
Just that Intro theme. Amazing.
I love this, pls make more
17:10 is that music from Halo 2? That was unexpected, but fitting.
YO I DIDNT EXPECT VICTOR TANZIG!
Since you had almost all of the narrow gauge engines involved, I wonder what Peter Sam was doing throughout all this
Pulling passenger trains with Duke, I guess.
Well Done With The Video. 🙂❤️👍🏻
It's like if Rev. W. Awdry wrote this story of Rusty and the Boulder.
Wow nice
Smashing work Joe! I loved it! Pleasure to be apart of this too.
This feels like something awdry could’ve wrote
Most of the time, remakes just can't compare with the original. This remake, however, is very good and scary, and improves upon the original episode.
The boulder is a haunted engine
I plan on doing an Audio adaptation of Toby's Discovery but there be some changes in both the character list and the voice lines, I decided to make Duck and Duncan appear and make Bertram speak, I'll start writing the script for it when I'm done with my 3rd Transformers movie which in the middle of 1 of the last 3 parts
Spooky
I was surprised to hear a piano rendition of Pareidolia.
This thing is crazy
You know,Burnett was right, all Mountains have their secrets,Muffle Mountain's secret is Lady, the old quarry's Mountain secret is The Boulder.
Donald: ThAtS NoT PoSsIBle BoUlDeRs DoNt hAvE eYeS me: Neither do engines but I don't see you complaining about it
What horror i can't believe it
cant wait for 2020's
i like skarloweys trucks are like "ON ON ON MAKE HIM GO FASTER"
And Rheneas’s lines.

IT CAN’T BE! IT’S RUNNING LOOSE!
*Y I K E S*
That was amazing. I dare say it's better than the original. Maybe next year u can do Haunted Henry or Duncan Gets Spooked. Keep up the awesome work 👍
Thank you. Regarding your suggestions, I actually did my own take on Haunted a few years ago. It's part of a 4 part mini-series called Sodor in 1967. As for Duncan Gets Spooked, some people have already done their versions of it and I can't think of an idea for that story that would be original from theirs.
@@narrowgauge9717 What if you did it like you've done here?
Narrow Gauge how about adapt one of the darkest episodes from that season, Stepney Gets Lost.
@@oldwarriorproductions8411 Was thinking of that too.
WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT VICTOR TANZIC VOICE ACTING DONALD?!?!
Better than the original
I need the beginning as a separate music video!
Where did you get the music for this video?
Skarloey: AHHHHH!!!!!!! RUNAWAY!!!!!!! *CHUFFS AWAY FROM THE BOULDER*
Rheneas: Oh Drumsticks! Wait for me! *Races after skarloey while pushing agneus behind*
Agneus: WHOA! SLOWDOWN!
Have you done Duncan Gets Spooked. All time favorite.....
It had pitches yay
13:29 Agnes is a first-class coach who really dislikes being used as a workmen's hut, does she?
This was better than the TV episode of rustler and the bolder, since we got a back story about the bolder. But is leaves some unanswered questions, is the bolder possessed by a spirit/ghost from a bygone era, or is the boulder cursed.
I didn't expect Victor Tanzig here
I think there was one scene where called thumper Humper.
Will this be available after the stream?
Hey just a question I had, do you use myuu’s music in your videos at all? I think that’s awesome if you do because his music is perfect for your videos
Yes I do.
I’m hoping to see it in Trainz simulator style
This would be a good Trainz movie, eh?
You know what you’re going to get on Twitter it was my best game I was in a really big game game I was playing the other night and I was scared 😱
Could you do one of "Toby's Tightrope"?
Why's footage from A Bad Day for Sir Handel used?
200th like.
5:03 Soon, HUMPER was working hard!!
5:26 He did it again!!!!
This one is different compare to the actually episode, Donald and Douglas were never in the scene, Thomas and Percy were the one who was talk to Rusty about the boulder watching him 🤨🤔🧐
The reason I made those changes was because I wanted this version to have a Railways series style. So in this scenario, Thomas, Percy and Edward would be on their respective branchlines.
Narrow Gauge oh ok?
Sir handel: *Blows his whistle* Everyone move out of the way! The boulder is coming this way! *Shunted Ruth Lucy Jemima and Beatrice out of the way*
Henry was never in the scene, Edward was the only one that brought thumper, not Henry 🤔
JG Tse,Narrow Gauge probably wanted to make his own version of the episode.
yeah? It felt different and creepy, if this was adapted in the show. It would terrified kids and adults
