      I absolutely love this diversity of languages ESC had before 1999. I get it's not reasonable to have a rule about using the native languages in this contest nowadays. But for me, countries who send a song in their own language, are automatically elevated to a special level. This year, Denmark is the one I applaud to for sending a song in Danish again after many, many years. Wish the other countries who have "forgotten" their language during last decades, had the courage to do the same.

      @@theemeraldwitch6099 Jeangu sings parts of his song in Sranantongo, which is, next to the Dutch language, the lingua franca of the Republic of Suriname. Suriname is also not a part of Africa, it’s located in South America. Considering the close history (and present) between Suriname and the Netherlands, and Jeangu having been born and raised in Suriname, it’s not so ‘random’ for the Dutch entry to feature Sranantongo. I’m sorry, but I wonder; why do we accept it when the Dutch, or any other country for that matter, send in an English song, but find it weird when it features a language that has a much closer connection with the Netherlands and its history? Perhaps you simply weren’t aware of the language used being Sranantongo or perhaps you were only making a joke, but please remember that not every foreign language is ‘African’. Please do not generalise, as representation like this, on a global stage like Eurovision, matters.

      Also Surinamese culture is fairly present in the NL because of the amount of people here with ties to there, since Suriname used to be a part of the Netherlands or something until fairly recently tbh. Many people of Surinamese decent have a large influence on modern Dutch music, especially those targeted to younger (teen, young adult) demographics. Makes more sense culturally than whatever boring English pop song Sweden send in...

    Personally, I like this year quite a lot. There’s a lot to enjoy for me, I also really like other songs such as Belgium, Iceland, Ireland, Russia and San Marino despite them not being in my top 10. I’m also just glad there will be a contest this year, in some form.

    These recaps are so good at showing us just how many different genres and styles there are at Eurovision! It's almost crazy to go from something like Poland, to Portugal, to Romania, to Russia all in a row because they have nothing to do with each other. And that goes for all of them, of course!

      - France is the only song that has some actual soul
      - North-Macedonia, Georgia and Spain are trying to have a good story but they don't hit the quite the mark
      - Portugal...idk
      - the Netherlands is the only one bringing an unknown vibe to the contest
      - Finland and Italy are the only ones bringing real instruments instead of a computer
      - the rest are all quick computer generated beat songs with some meaningless English lyrics that you get bored with after a year and never listen to again

    • @biihisme
      @biihisme Před 3 lety +2

      @@gijs_k3737 The rest? You mean ALL besides the ones you mentioned? How about Russia? Ukraine? Albania, Serbia, Switzerland, Denmark? All of those have lyrics in their native language. Even among the ones which *are* in English, there are some pretty good messages such as Bulgaria, Romania, Lithuania, even Sweden. Not like that's something all songs must have - sometimes a funny, catchy song that you can dance to is all it takes to make someone happy. And even then, there are many different ones, I don't think it's really fair to lump them together.
      I think it's worth it to take the time to appreciate something in every song. Just because it's "not for me" doesn't mean there aren't good qualities about it and it's much better than negativity!
