  • Last time we explored our newest build and pulled the entire drivetrain (some of which was in piles in the van). Now it is time to get our new engine mounted up to the trans and back in the little Promonster so we can stop pushing it everywhere.

I know you said you’re a mechanic, but I’ve gotten so used to seeing you do body work that is weird to see you take apart the drive train and put it back together, but enjoyed watching you work nonetheless. Always fun to watch another Vehcor video and it was fun to see Mr Spotty without the masking tape. Lol

I've never seen this model of Ram in New Zealand. We have a surprising number of these on the road, usually as company cars, considering how much they cost. They start at NZ $94,000 to $122,000. The median income here is $53,000 and a Toyota Land Cruiser is about $70,000. So you can imagine at that price these are prestige cars and so are usually only bought buy companies to put their logo on.

I didn’t take the route you did for rebuild. I actually went ahead to reman the motor, broke the bell housing on install (no idea what happened) so I went ahead and did a full trans service as well. Took 2 months to get all the parts and work done… dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.

It's the ZF TCM for the 9HP48 transmission. It's made in Greencourt for ZF and Chrysler make it under licence. Same transmission fundamentals are used in Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque. In the Land Rover applications, it pulls away in 2nd and uses 1st as a low gear off road. The Chrysler version pulls away in first and probably never sees 9th.

I had to drive one of these for a couple years and can attest to the "would not take it if they gave it to me" qualities of this P.O.S. I had to drive it like a go cart because of the horrible transmission lagging and pausing. Floorboard till you are up to speed and then let off. You definitely have to drive it like you assume it is going to quit on you at any moment.
