  • Today we start a new build. One of my favorites to work on and this time in a different color. Honestly, I like the black truck but not the work involved to keep it looking clean. This thing became an aircraft for a few seconds before turning into what we have here. It looks like a fairly easy job but there are always hidden surprises wait in rebuilds.

There are a bunch of 'low damage' vehicles coming through the auction houses as totaled here in Oklahoma over the last three or four months; I call them Pandemic Wrecks. Wrecked during the pandemic and it was easier to write a check than it was to find someplace open that could, or would, take on the repair. Some sweet deals are available, but now it's a matter of finding the replacement parts. lol Gotta love just in time inventory management.

Scott, I saw that this Denali came from James Wood - Decatur & Denton. You were in my general 'hood! We tint heavy here in Texas cuz it gets HOT, and black trucks are heat sinks. You are becoming vehGMC 😁 This is gonna be a great build. I watch Ted Cook's channel #antidiyhvac and I told Ted he needs to buy a Haters Tears water bottle from your Store, he could stay well hydrated. Maybe I can get a commission?

My 15 Denali is Black. I never thought I'd get a black vehicle, but it looked so damn good I couldn't resist. Yes, it's a huge pain in the butt to keep it clean, but it sure looks good when it is. I have a monthly pass at the carwash :) Oh, and you've been missed. I always look for your vids on Friday.

Funny you mention the wheel not coming back at you after the impact. I had to repair a '19 Tacoma that took a hit to the right front wheel, apparently Toyota ball joints aren't break away items. The suspension folded back and the wheel made quite the impression on the firewall. Hard enough to break a hole in the hvac box. Yes, that was fun to replace.
It's a good thing I had to replace the apron and rail as well, another great design feature is the one single foot and a half long bolt that holds the upper control arm in place doesn't come out unlesd you lift the cab. It just hits the apron long before the bolt is anywhere near out.
Lucky Toyota boys and girls will be very happy when they have to replace upper control arm bushings!
