  • I bought this Terrain for the driver airbag, fender moulding and one wheel and tire. Let's see if I also got a running engine and good trans to make this an awesome deal. Then we will use some parts off of it and throw away the rest.

    Thank you for providing REAL automotive content. I watch all the big sponsored channels where they rebuild super cars or have other perform work on their cars. Your channel however, deals in reality. Real, available vehicles requiring varying and sometimes significant work that you do 90%+ on your own. All while filming and explaining in detail so others could reasonably follow along if they chose to do it themselves. Kudos for the consistent quality content. The national auto parts stores should be coming to you to advertise/promote if they aren’t already.

    I use to do this work in the late 60's and early 70's. I'm amazed how much of modern cars are just snap together stuff. Of course a lot less parts were in older cars. But, people were still amazed then by the amount of work is was to rebuild something right. So, back then there were plenty of hacks like there is now a days I guess. Nice to see a guy do things right. Thanks for the vid.

      Connecting rods seem to be made out of butter these days. On the older engines, you just pulled the plugs, turned it over and pushed the oil out and put it back together and you were done. They would smoke for a while but 99% saved. These days it is more like 40%.

New passenger front fender, front door and replace the outer layer of the b Pilar. Thanks to your amazing instruction I already knew what that entailed. Great job, as usual. If you're looking for project cars with minimal interior damage, and the potential for a high return on your time, check the auctions for the low mileage 2020 Lexus vehicles, particularly the RX350 and RX 350L and RX 450 models, and the big Lexus SUVs. There is an air bag sensor problem in many, if not all of them, and the air bags are reluctant to deploy in either rear end or front end collisions that total the vehicles. At the end of a collision, a message pops up on the screen with the news that there is defect in the air bag and restraint system causing non-deployment, and to contact the dealer, if you're still alive. Ask me how I discovered this Lexus feature.
    Watching you methodically take a car or truck apart in short order, and then putting a wrecked one back together with the pieces you've salvaged is truly watching a master mechanic at work. You're one of the few people who understands how every system in a vehicle works and how the various systems interact with the other components and the chassis, etc. to make a vehicle work as you want it to, and, in many cases, as it should have been designed to. Thanks again - seeing is believing.

  • @BrucePierson
    @BrucePierson Před 3 lety +3

    Great video, a few good laughs in that, as well as the interest in what you could salvage from it. It's surprising just how many parts you can get from something that seems like it has nothing good on it. Seeing all that smoke reminded me of a car I had back in the 70's. It did that all the time. Good for making tail-gaters back off. Just hit the gas and cover them with smoke! We used to cut up old cars with an axe, as we didn't have a reciprocating saw back then. Always happy to see your new video on Saturday morning and the Wednesday video is always a bonus. All the best from Queensland Australia.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  Před 3 lety +2

      I never thought this would be a popular video idea but what do I know. I might have to do another on a parts car. There is more to salvage than most people realize. These have notoriously bad transmissions and with only 20K on this one, it is worth 3 times what I paid for the entire thing. Take care!

      Oh yes, lots of good parts can be salvaged on most any car besides a burned one. Flood cars are amazing for clean sheetmetal, bumpers, and usually engines too. Years ago I made good money buying smaller plastic parts and specialty electronics for pennies at the junkyard, then reselling them to people who knew what they were worth. Just have to know what a part is worth and who needs it.

    I like how you do your video's. Set the camera up and go to work then voice over later. Sometimes it gets painful watching someone try to do two handed projects one handed so they can hold the camera.

      Half a quart of trans fluid poured down a carburetor would fog a 16 stall shop real quick. The service manager was not pleased with our shenanigans. Btw, not a customers car, one of the mechanics brought his car into the shop to do some work on it on his vacation. We did buy him a new set of plugs. Dan.
