  • The bodywork is done on the Sierra, it is time to get the truck stripped for the painter. Once he is done we can start putting it back together. I'm still waiting on some parts at this point but they should be in soon.

    Here's my take on the cavity wax, it took a whole 3 seconds, at most, and cost a buck, at most. Why the hell not! I like the idea of doing everything possible to stop the rust on my vehicle. Just makes me feel good to know it's protected. Keep at it!

I could not find the cavity wax so i used fluid film inside the doors trunk lid, hood, everywhere i could think of. I live in Connecticut where they pour salt brine on the roads ,it loves the eat steel. I had my new used truck frame blasted then hot galvanized they did not quench it so paint would stick to it, 3 coats of catalyzed black paint in a attempt to keep the rust at bay. I cavity waxed the whole inside of the frame after painting.

I have a 1982 Mitsubishi L300 van that was treated for rust when it was young and other than rocker panels that I had to repair when I was putting it back on the road, it has insignificant rust. Needless to say that I treated it again before it went back on the road. My 1981 L300 that I had before this one had really bad rust and I had to take it off the road. So this 1982 L300 is one of very few left on the road today. All the best from Queensland Australia.

They come in several kits or by themselves. They are listed as 22-24 ga wire but work to nearly 18 ga wire. I like them because they are just over an inch long, have the glue lining and smaller diameter than the pink 18-20 ga ones. I saw them in 100, 150, or 500 count packages.

    Taking your tips about cavity wax. Plus the info about fluid film. I have used those products around my Florida Island home where the salt air corrodes everything. Simple things like an outside electrical outlet that has a weather cover(which does little good) corrodes up to useless in about 5 years. So now after replacing them I cover them in FluidFilm. For two electrical breaker boxes on the outside of the house that I replaced because the old ones were pretty much just a hunk of rust. Cavity wax all inside. FluidFilm on the outside. For my outside AC unit I treated it too. Hopefully the outside AC unit will not have to be replaced in just a mere 4 years this time.

    So glad you value all the unsolicited advice you get from the "experts" here in the comments! Mr. Spotty is the most upset though...cause he can't leave a comment. Masking tape can't type...can it? Haha. On a serious note...watching your style of work and attention to detail...if/when I need a used vehicle....I'll send you a request so if you come across one at an auction or elsewhere...could be a good thing for both of us. You get some cool cash for hard work done and I'd get a cool used ride that won't rust out and will be reliable...unless it's a Ford...oh no he didn't! I love Fords...I've owned 4 of them, and 2 Lincolns....but you go where the laughs are best. Haha.

    Until today, I never knew those were called heat shrink terminals, nor that they were to be heated to seal. I just thought the plastic was to insulate the splice. That wisdom alone was worth watching your channel. Thanks for educating me today!!!

    • @LaggyWizard
      @LaggyWizard Před 3 lety +1

      There a couple different kinds. The ones he used were the heatshrink kind. But they also make cheaper non "weather-proof" connectors that look similar, I wouldn't try to heatshrink the non weather-proof ones. It might get stinky

      @vehcor In my defense, I'm a retired dentist who's only fully restored one vehicle in my life. A very rare early 1963 Corvette Roadster, from hot rodded back to fully stock. I watch your channel for the dark humor and to learn a thing or two. Thanks!

    Think the cavity wax is doesn't hurt, takes little to no time and make the truck last longer. Why is matters if you use it now who knows🤣 haters will be haters, great job with the rebuilds!

    I'm a diyer with my first car being an impala doing my own work or most of it i should say, im surprised what i've learned on replacing and such but now im a fan of these rebuild channels, especially the trucks. so much you can do.
    To answer that one question tho: 18:46 = you can honestly spray some all purpose cleaner like Purple power or SuperClean and use a brush and pressure washer, because they're carpeted it'll take a few minutes to get most of the dirt out.

    Using the cavity-wax is not a waste of time. You demonstrate your integrity and professionalism every time you do that and any other little extra to produce a superior product. Your pride in your workmanship and sense of self-worth out-weigh the expenditure of the extra time.

    If you tilt back with the mast of the fork lift instead of driving back when your pulling bed rails in it’s more consistent and smoother with finer control. Both ways work but with the hydraulics you don’t get the lash in the drive train. You do you though haha
