How in the world could GM win any awards after cutting so many corners after 2008? Remember we taxpayers had to bail them out because he could not run their business properly. the only automaker in this country of the big three was Ford that did not need to be bailed out. That's the only award I need to stick with Ford. And before you say oh yeah Ford took the money Ford was forced to take the money. I would tell you what they invested the money in but you wouldn't believe me I'll just leave it at that. That would piss people off.

3 year dependability means nothing to me. Show me 10 year dependability and then we can really see what trucks hold up.

I bought a 2009 Silverado 2500HD 6.0 gas new. Still have it. No recalls, no breakdowns. Been the most reliable truck I've owned hands down in my 66 years.
Having worked in the auto biz for 36 years I can tell you, without hesitation, that what folks in the business used to say about J D Power is "They are the folks who, if you pay them enough money, they will prove anything you want."
Just like statistics. Use enough and you can prove anything you want.
that is a FACT! but toyota has always been known for reliabilty,and resale value...i though maybe ford would be #2? then honda and GM tied? who knows
JD power gives out "reliability" and "dependability" rewards for vehicles with brand new engines in the first year of the new engine. makes zero sense.

I think that is actually a throwback to decades old dependability expectations. It has validity,, just not like it used to 50 years ago. 1950's and 1960's,, absolutely normal to trade in your vehicle every year, or at most every 3 years. My father in the 20 years purchased new 12 vehicles. Things to keep in mind. Incredible manufacturing prowess coming off of WWI, tires had to be replaced every 8 to 10 thousand miles, an old and worn out vehicle had 70,000 miles on it. Almost nothing reached 100,000 miles,,, that was an old junker. The first year of ownership,, was your only year of ownership. The validity today,,, some vehicles are just rife with defects of design and workmanship "Never buy a Friday vehicle.", "Never buy a new vehicle in its first year of production." You've heard these phrases. And I, from personal and extremely painful experience, can tell you some vehicles sold new are just plain a pile of crap. I owned a brand new ***** , 1973. In its first 16 months, 40,000 miles, of ownership,, 3 alternators, 3 starters, 2 radiators, timing chain, and automatic transmission, 6 door locks,,,, Beyond the first 4 months of ownership, I spent every weekend under that POS wrenching it. Warranty support ? Exactly zero. 12,000 mile warranty and at 14,000 miles you could not keep it on the road 3 consecutive weeks. A first year dependability rating,, MAKES PERFECT sense. By the way, I have never since owned,, nor will I ever own, another anything of that big three company products,, the same one that received no mention on this list....
No matter what make or model you own, if you want it to be reliable and last a long time, take care of it and do your routine maintenance. Get what you like, not what JDP or CR tells you.
Agreed. In this day and age they're all good vehicles overall. It's how they are treated that directly effects eventual reliability.

"Take care of your truck and it will take care of you" is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Yes, routine maintenance is absolutely important, BUT, manufacturing defects and poor designs are what often result in issues. Those things have little to do with proper maintinance. You can get a truck and maintain it like your supposed to, but issues still pop up.

Dad bought a 93 f150 5.0 back in 94 as a contractors truck. He passed away i possessed it. Still drivin over 340,000 on odometer with stock drivetrain.
Don’t sell it if the engine and transmission go out just put another one in an get another 340,000 miles

People buy Toyota for the same reason they buy glocks, or iPhones.. no gimmicks, just a flat out reliable product. It’s funny the people that complain about “lack of innovation” with these products

@@garrettmccord Sure, I'll define it for you. Cement blocks hauled,, a stack of plywood, the cement mixer, two chainsaws, 6 loads of firewood,, each a 1/2 full cord. The inside of the box if not Rhino or fitted plastic is a scratched up dented up half paintless mess. Tool boxes thrown in and out twice a day, every day. Mud on the jobsite axle deep. A truck used for work. Daily. Not some tarted up, every option, bells, whistles, computer screens, heated, power, all that junk just needs repair and does nothing for,, Does it start and run every morning. EVERY morning. So when a Honda Ridgeline with its 8 cubic foot box takes 1st? You can imagine the howls of derision. Many of the Toyotas, some excellent trucks, fall into that category as well. Because almost no tradesman will pay the extra 20,000 dollars when a perfectly good Chevy or Ford will get the same work done . Does not have to be a diesel, or a pumped up 350 dualie. I prefer small engines, two wheel drive, easy on repair and easy on fuel.
I put 225K miles on my 06 F-150 and never had an issue when I sold it in 2016. Still hauled a car from Texas to Maryland with over 200k miles on it. My 2010 ranger was still running strong at 146k miles and now my 2014 F-150 seems great but I haven’t even hit 100k miles on it yet.
I put "JD power" right up there with "Truecar pricing" There's a sucker born every second!
Truecar pricing is a good bargaining chip when you go in to dealership. I've gotten dealerships to match truecar pricing before.

I second the comment regarding 3 year reliability being of no value to me. You should never have to replace anything other than oil, transmission fluid, brakes, tires and maybe a drive belt within 100k. Even then, getting your vehicle to 200k miles should also be relatively trouble free given the astronomical cost of vehicles today.

In 1986 he gave it to me.
With regular and preventative maintenance I'm still driving it.

Been a GM man from day one. Vortec V8/V6 engines are bullet proof when you do your preventive maintenance. Regular oil changes etc. Have a 2018 Silverado and a 2005 gmc sierra i have since brand new. Has over 220k miles and doesn't burn or leak any oil.
I am not surprised with your results have owned Toyota trucks since 1995, previous to that I owned an F150 and a F250. The reason I switched was I wanted better reliability and resale value. My Toyota trucks have been trouble free and if I did have an issue they stood behind it, can't say that about my Ford experience. They may not have as many bells and whistles as the other guys but they definitely last longer, never break, and I always get top dollar when I sell or trade in.
Love Love Love my 2012 Tundra SR5 4.6L. Solid, Took it on a trek in a snow storm this morning in S Alberta. Got between 8 and 12 inches in 24 hours,New All Season General tires. It had zero issues with control or dependability, just flipped to 180000km. Going for the 1 million!!
I've got a 2004 Dodge Dakota, that was 6 years old when I got it, and now has 190,000 + miles with very little trouble other than average wear out items that were fairly easy fixes, such as A/C compressor, power steering pump, ball joints, and rear parking brake cables, and a front diff. driveshaft. Never got stranded, and would drive it from coast to coast without worry in a 16 year old vehicle.
I bought an 04 Dakota that I drove for 15 yrs, best vehicle I ever owned. Engine gave up in '17 , don't have the bucks for a new engine ,but I would like to find another one.
2002 yukon xl 5.3L 607,000 kms and counting, just doesnt quit. Was a very interesting learning curve driving this lead sled.
I have a 2001 Tahoe 5.3 v8 with 260,000 miles on it and it still runs great

Ram trucks since 2009 have had the highest percentage of owner loyalty and have become the fastest growing truck brand including a record breaking 18% increase in 2019 that allowed the Ram to pass the Chevy full size for second place. Obviously J.D. Power has about as much credibility as FAKE NEWS CNN. Here are the industry official sales figures for full size trucks in 2019. Ford F series-896,526 down 1.4 %, Ram-633,694 up 18.3%, Chevy-570,639 down 2.5%, Toyota Tundra-111,693 down 5.6%, Nissan Titan-31,514 down 37.5% . The consumer obviously determines the market and it looks like Ford and Ram lead the way.
That's because Ram trucks have by far the nicest interior of the 3.
I used to have a dually dodge Cummins, it was a nice truck and I absolutely loved it. With 6 speed manual I couldn't get enough of driving it. Now I have a Chevy duramax 2500. While not as nice and not as fun to drive. The 3/4ton Chevy handles the same load in the bed better. Less suspension drop, less body roll. And it absolutely pulls better and handles the horse trailer the same as the dually. The kicker doe me is cold start at -10deg f. The dodge always started but it wasn't very happy about it if you forgot to plug it in. The Chevy not plugged in cranks over 4-5 revolutions and fires, its damn quick.
Anyone with a brain that has actually worked on a vehicle knows that a vehicle’s dependability is only as good as the regular inspection, maintenance, and replacement of worn out components. Pick one and take care of it.
Agreed, for the most part. JD Power is bullshit. Most of the major brands offer pretty good vehicles. A lot of people skip maintenance and don't take care of their vehicles and then problems ensue. If you do your scheduled maintenance and change your fluids regularly then, for the most part, you will be fine. If buying new it's important to buy from a good dealer who will take care of warranty work without giving you a hassle. Most vehicles will have a recall or some little thing that goes wrong and is covered under warranty. It doesn't mean it's a crappy brand. All vehicles will need repairs due to age/use...brakes, exhaust, alternator, tires, gaskets etc...all this stuff will need to be repaired as the vehicle ages. Buy what you like and take care of it. It's pretty simple.

Taking care of a vehicle is the most important part for sure, but the FCA/Stellantis Rams are substantially trashier regarding component quality than the rest of the truck competitors.
i wish there was a complication of numbers on actual mechanic visits and issues per vehicle type per year. That would help a lot more, but i doubt that will every happen
Bought both of my Tundras from a guy that had spent more than 20 years as a Ford service technician that had left when his dealership was threatened because they were replacing too many ring gears. Of course they were. We are in a fishing community that works trucks hard and sees them in a salt encrusted environment. It's laughable that they crow about their aluminum body while the chassis rarely exceed six to seven years around here. This is where the Tundra population is exploding to the point that the dealers can't keep up with demand. My last truck was typical in every way but took three months to arrive due to shortages. My last truck was seven years old when traded and snagged me 24k. It still had no rust on the chassis. I'd never go back to any of the other companies no matter how deep the voice in the commercials get.

I wouldn't be caught dead in a Toyota or Nissan truck......not capable of performing real truck type tasks.....unable to haul and tow heavy loads......easy job for American made Class 2 and Class 3 trucks.
I have a 2004 Ford F-150 Heritage I bought brand new with 4 miles.
19 years and 259,000 miles later and it is still running.

Best truck I ever owned was an 84 GMC 2WD 305 boat anchor. Sounded like a beast with dual glasspacks. Wouldn't roast the tires but got 18 MPG on the highway with my good old Quadrajet and highway gearing and never, not even once, left me stranded in 21 years. I know a lot of people exaggerate and say "it never broke down" but it literally started every time and always got me wherever I was going. Wish I hadn't sold it.
I liked this video alot! I have been doing something similar on my own because we got really screwed by RAM over a 3500 DRW we owned several years ago so I have been keeping a log of awards, recalls (# of recalls + severity of problems) and Consumer Reports data. I did this in anticipation of buying another 1 ton truck (any brand but RAM).
What I discovered is that the amount of problems with all the 1 ton trucks was way more than I cared to pay for so we have not yet purchased anything and I don't think we are going to. Instead I have decided maybe a Freightliner M2 or a Sterling might be a better choice than sinking money into "problem pickups"!! We have a 2014 Toyota Tundra as our everyday driver but our future fifth-wheel hauler will more than likely not be a pickup!
Thanks to the industry for trying to sell us junk at over inflated prices - not buying anymore!

Because... automakers really boast awards and especially ones that have such a strong awareness among consumers.

It is all creative marketing. Watch those commercials closer and really see what they are referring to. It is all in the fine print.
Thanks for putting together this review/comparison. Thus far, I’ve been enjoying my 2020 Chevy 2500HD Gas version (6.6L) as it suits my needs and getting decent fuel mileage (14-15.5 L/100km or 16.8-15.2 US mpg) Highway. Winter is just arriving as of this writing and with my new studded winter tires, those figures will change as it does for any and all vehicles (more idling time, more friction in the cold and tire slippage, etc.). That’s life (c’est la vie!).
I’ll go with the results mostly, but the HD Chevy, 5.4L F150 and the 6.0L F350 were money pits for me.
My first truck was a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, and i bought it used. I beat the shit out of that thing and it NEVER let me down. Later on my needs required something bigger so 2019 Tundra it is! Ive had one recall since owning it and was just something simple (dim turn signals) everyone says the Tundra is a dinosaur... and that may be. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I Love it!! 👍
I’ve Got a 2008 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi.
Regular Maintenance. 1 water pump and fuel pump. Nothing Else. Runs like New.
310K Miles. Used Valvoline Conventional Oil since New.
Congrats, you are the exception, not the rule.
I would never spend money on a Ram, I’d need to be given one with a free maintenance and rental pack. This is based off of working with many work fleets and my uncle being a Ram/dodge/Chrysler/Jeep mechanic.
First Gen Ram eco-diesels are probably the worst truck for Canadian winters ever made.
I have a 2005 Ford Ranger, 4.0L FX4. Bought tires, a battery, and changed the oil once a year. Runs and drives like new. What could possibly be more reliable than that.
1997 Ford F350 with the 7.3 diesel. I have used this truck since 1999 it had 19,000 miles when I purchased it, used it in concrete construction pulling a skid loader most of the time. This truck now has 377,777.7 miles and counting as of 10-13-20 . Never had any motor problems, still runs and works great everyday. Does have some rust on fenders but thinking about getting it fixed. This is the best work truck ever beat that if you can!
Only truck that can match you is an older 2nd gen Cummins Ram

Cool video, man. The problem with these surveys is that some people get brand loyal and give their trucks higher ranks than they should. I have a buddy that's owned three Dodge Rams and keeps talking about how they're good trucks, but the reason he's on his third one is the first two fell apart. He even had to put an engine in the one he has now, but brags about it running strong.

None of this matters to me. I love my 2016 Colorado. I never considered a Tacoma or Frontier, and the Ridgeline isn’t a proper truck.

Buddy had enough of his 2017 canyon after it’s 3rd oil pump went, truck had just under 30k miles on it.
Maybe the 4th oil pump will last to 150k LOL.
In 1995 I bought a 1993 GMC 1500 short wheel base 4x4 with a 4.3 5 Speed and 113,000 miles After a few small modifications and a few parts never inside the eng. I recently sold it at 375,000 miles and it id still running well but starting downhill with parts going bad. Those were real bullet proof rigs back then...Never did let me down.
Also a factor that J.D.P. probably didnt account for is how many of those models were sold. For example 10 Toyota's vs 100 Ford (1 hated Toyota, and 10 hated Ford). Same percentage, but seeing it initially you would think more people loved Toyota's

2010 Frontier, 360,000km. Sold it without ever having an engine light. Only ever changed oil, brakes and tires. Stayed loyal, bought an 18Pro4X and so far its been another bulletproof trail runner. Test drove, Chev Colorado, Tacoma, Ford. Nice trucks but no where's near the same value.
My 2005 Ranger was not a good truck "back in the day", just turned over 138,000 with nothing ever going wrong, the air still works, basically perfect.
Ford 5.4 3 V was a Dumpster Fire. So switched to GM w 5.3 or 6. L.. Put a chip in the 5.3 to eliminate the variable displacement system.

Not really. Maintenance is the key. Also, 5W20 is not the best even though it’s recommended from the factory. Other countries had 5W30 as the recommendation and they don’t have the ticking issue that the states saw. We also have a ton of them in our fleet and they all were fine. The only issues we ever had were some electrical issues like power windows around the 200K mark
I had a 2008 Ford F250 With the 5.4 3 valve And I never had a issue I used the truck for work every day all I did was oil changes every 5000 miles and I ended up putting almost 300000 miles on it. Before I got rid of it because it was getting pretty ratty from working every day... O and it had over 8000 hours on it
Good video, next you should do a video with the information from Consumer reports. It would be interesting to see their results compared to J.D Power considering they are the two biggest names in vehicle studies. It should also get a lot of views for your channel.

Nissian frontier is the best value for the money, good solid truck, not too much dazzle with all the technology bs

I have had fords and GM vehicles. I can honestly say that GM has been the better of the 2. Not too surprised. However if you read Consumer Reports they have more faith in Ford. I guess it’s all depends on what you prefer and favor
The older GM vehicles were generally better than the Fords(especially engine-wise) but ever since GM’s bankruptcy, their quality has gone way down. Ford is proving to be the most reliable Full Size truck brand at the moment.
My first truck was a 1990 F-150 regular cab 8 foot bed Lariat trim with 5.0 and 5 speed manual. I sure loved that truck! Yes, it needed periodic repairs because of budget parts used by Ford, but the only reason I parted with it was because I had two sons and the four of us outgrew the truck. Then I bought a 2000 GMC Sierra King Cab 4.8L V8 that never needed a repair in 200,000 miles. It towed a 5800lb loaded travel trailer all around the country. Then we added a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD regular cab 8 foot bed truck that only needed one repair in the last 10 years and 110,000 miles. It is only used to tow my wife's horse trailer. Then I bought a '17 Nissan Frontier 4.0 King Cab to haul my dirt bikes around. Loved the power but was never really comfortable for long drives. Traded it for a '19 Nissan Titan S trim work truck. Love the ride and the power. Hopefully it proves as reliable as my GMC trucks.
I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT ext.cab 3.0 V6 flex feul 4speed automatic with 337,000 miles runs perfect daily driver and went many many trips across the USA still with Original drive train no rebuild real dependable🐺

Personally, I don't think much of the 3 year survey. I keep and am interested in keeping my truck for at least 10 years. I will say the Toyota Tundra definitely deserve its kudos because I have yet to meet a single owner of that truck who was dissatisfied.
I don't think they have good transmissions. I have a Lexus GS AWD and they share the same part number for the transmission. Just a different transfer case.
Ive met a few some of the first year 2022 guys are not happy with build quality. I was going to be one of them but decided against it for now.
I dont know many toyota guys who can work on their own stuff so i dont hear much just people complaining about small things they took it to the dealer for. When people complain without research or trying to find the solution, i tend not to listen. I think the last gen tundra was ugly but other than a 12th gen f150 its the only half ton i would buy.
I had a 2007 gmc. Was an ok truck. 2010 f150 had issues but a beautiful truck to drive Now have 2017 f 150. And I love it With the 5.0. There are a lot of trucks out there and they all have their issues. Nothing’s perfect

I bought a 2018 Nissan Frontier Love it owned for 2 years No problems or repairs best Truck I have ever owned.
Ironic that i just watched a video saying to stay away from the 2010 GMC 2500 because of customer complaints on reliability yet its rated the best on jd power?
Plenty of contradicting information out there due to lots of different experiences.
I have a 2006 Silverado 1500 lt, I’ve gone through one water pump I am currently @ 230,000 miles I love this truck I’m the 2nd owner purchased it in 2008 with 13,000 miles. I love my truck, so JD powers ?
When pickup trucks went from contractor work trucks to 4 door luxury cruisers with a less than 8' bed they are no longer IMO considered trucks. Most spend more time at the malls or as a soccer mom taxi. Ford, GM, Dodge own the contractor business because they still offer a work truck.
I drive an older V8 pickup with a short bed. Sometimes a pickup truck is the only viable alternative to front wheel drive cars (no one wants a Subaru BRZ that can be outrun by a HD pickup truck).
My truck works more than yours i can guarantee, 8 foot beds are not needed for anyone thats not a carpenter. Need to haul pipe, get a headache rack with rocket launchers. I have an ext cab with 6.5 foot bed and i would have gotten a 5.5 bed if it were available because its turning radius would be much better and i have a better chance of not high centering when coming onto and off of rig mats and such. Guys need to realize trucks do other work than hauling lumber or whatever. My truck spends the majority of its 12 hour days off highway
People buy trucks for personal vehicles because they last and with current and past prices you could buy a car or suv that may last 200,000 miles if everything goes right or they can buy a truck for a little more or the same and neglect it to well over 200k. If im spending my 50k-100k im buying whats going to last. Some people buy them for saftey but they are idiots. Also where i live we get extreme weather, little suvs and cars go nowhere after a storm even with snowtires. I throw my truck in 4wd and im good unless we get some freeIng rain but in that case anyone that doesnt have 4wd and doesnt use compression braking hits the ditch or another car.
Why does it bother you so much people make the smarter decision with their money.
all the mall crawlers/house mothers switched to jeeps and tacomas with overlanding setups now at least in my area

Owned one Toyota. Didn't last long. Bought Chevy after that. Drove two to 200K plus. Drove a Ford before the Toyota to 220K. Everyone's experience is different.

I took the survey a month after buying my new 2017 Tundra, wish they waited longer then a month and or do another one a year or 2 again. Also some of the questions were odd wish i recall but cant recall the exact questions and no option to explain myself. I would like to add that prior to my new 2017 Tundra i bought new a 2002 Avalanche, we enjoyed it very much even though the computer died 1 mile from dealership. Within the warranty period the radio shorted, alternator shorted, headrest came apart, rear window came unglued. The final straw was brake failure while towing my camper. Sold at 78k after years of religiously keeping up with maintenance. 3 years with my Tundra and loving NO issues

Honda is a no-brainer. Solid. My 09 Tacoma is also going strong at 236,000 miles, doesn’t even rattle.
I have a 93 chevy still has original motor and tranny and still runs great. Most brands when you take care of them are reliable. Hondas and toyotas will grenade themselves when not maintained too! Machines no mater the brand require maintance. Cannot drive something and never maintain it and expect it to run as long as yours has. I have owned hondas, toyotas and gm stuff. I have seen hondad and toyotas owned by friends that do not do maintance blow up way too soon. Everything I have owned cause I maintain them has gottoen over 200k on it.

Have an 08 Ridgy.LOVE IT ! Yeah so what it's not body on frame.BIG DEAL. That's what makes it great. Even now its light years ahead in terms of ride, handling,and features. Oh and has almost 200k runs GREAT!

I was an independent car dealer for years who specialized in trucks. Believe me when I say you can find great trucks and lemons from every make out there. It has more to do with the care owners gave them than makes or models.

Just my experience, but, I have owned every make of truck except Honda. I'm 63. The Dodge trucks I've owned have been every bit as dependable and more than some. That includes my first firewood hauler 1946 1 and 1/2 ton that carried more wait than a 47 GMC 2 AND 1/2 ton! I've had good Fords, Chevs, Internationals, and many good Dodges. If you take care of them most serve well. I did notice overall better fuel economy with my Dodges over the rest as well as higher payload for same rated trucks.
Glad Dodge trucks worked well for you. I’ve owned 2 Ram trucks and they were buy far the worst vehicles I’ve ever owned. I’ve always had good luck with Chevy and Ford trucks... especially the Ford trucks.
my full size chevy silverado 2012 1500 4x4 pickup has had no mechanical issues in the 5.5 years i've had it absolutely LOVE this truck 85 k but has never let me down, it is the BEST truck of the 8 owned
I have a 5.0 f-150 that I’ve put 280k on it, I’m passively truck shopping now, but am not in a hurry. Zero issues, just basic maintenance. an oil pan gasket was replaced this year as it was dripping 4-5 drops per week on the garage floor.
My Little 2002 S10 Is 18 years with me so far with over 200,000 original miles..no major issues..
My 07 tundra just turned 500,000 today !!! Put first set of plugs in at 401,000 . Because 1 st coil pack went out.
I wish I had my 2003 Tundra but we moved and I needed 4WD. So we got a Tacoma and a 4Runner, both 4WD and call it a day.

My 99 chev silverado 2500 has 490,000 k. That 6.o litre is the best motor I have ever owned, Runs as good now as the day I bought it in 99. Truck still hascthe original transmission and exhaust., the engine has never been apart other than a new intake manifold gasket at 320,000 k. These results come as no shock to me.
Thanks for the research. Not surprised by the results - had an 03 Tundra an now a 12 Ridgeline. Both tremendously reliable. Maybe Honda was the best brand with only the medium category representation.
However, would’ve bought another Tundra in 2012 but they grew in size and wouldn’t fit in garage!

I have a 98 F150 302 Auto 308.000 miles , only replaced starter, alternator , brakes , and some misc.,runs great.
Resale prices will tell you what you want to know. Ever priced a used Tundra, Land Cruiser or 4Runner? Speaks volumes about reliability.

2000 Toyota Tundra. 260K. Replaced trannie at 160K. Other than that, just routine maintenance. Looking to buy a new truck and use my existing as an extra. Probably another Toyota but will shop around. Out west so routinely travel 4+ hours on trips which means the wife's comfort factor is probably going to win out:) This channel has helped.
I'm an old guy,my first truck was a 1957 Chev 1/2 ton and then had 4 more Chev's through the years and then I had Ford for 3 yrs, finally getting a Toyota.My second Toyota is a 2015 Tundra which is what I'm driving now.My point is all were very good trucks if taken care of,I buy by price and equipment. All had over 200,000 miles before I got rid of them.Don't think you can go wrong with a truck today if you stay away from the fancy options,just get a basic Truck
I had a 2003 Silverado 2500 HD great truck I traded it in for 14 Silverado 1500 great truck the best trucks I ever owned and I own trucks my whole life I was a Ford man before this never again

Consumers report magazine is in line with jd powers for 1 through 15 years on . I went from a 2000 z71 to o a 2007 tundra sr5, to a tundra limited, to a sequia limited . My personal experience,? I totally agree. No problems no junk no o radels. No fancie whip-ma-dos. In electronics. Reson I bought 1 one. Don't wAnt it.
Hmmmmm I just hauled a broke down tundra to the mechanic with my 04 Silverado 1500 with 285,000 miles. I slapped my dad's f150 5.4 Triton around with the same high mileage pickup. The f150 has 125,000 and is actually taken care of, unlike my Chevy. I've had 4 Silverado/Sierra's and I blew an engine in one and a transfer case in another. Keep in mind some guys actually use the little buttons that say 4H, 2H and 4L and that little square thingy on the rear end under the bumper. I'm one of those guys so those 2 break downs are a great track record. So you and your wife Tammy can get yourself a Tundra so you can go to the bakery and get cakes and pies for your tummy.

I bought a new 2006 Toyota Tacoma SR5 with the 4.0,still driving it with 226,800 miles on it with no mechanical repairs yet.not even a belt or hose.just 2 batteries.i live in Florida and would drive it to Alaska and back with no worries.best truck I ever owned.
If you find a truck that will perform the tasks that you want and you keep it well maintained, You have made a good deal!
Still have my 2003 ford 4.6 never failed yet .
had an 02-4.6-250k-never a tranny or engine problem-rusted out in 2016.
The 4.6 was bullet proof. To bad most of the rest of the truck would fall apart.

Was glad to see my Toyota Tacoma 2015 truck as a winner that year. Really like my truck, 4X4 , crew cab and does everything I could ask of it. It's just a truck but a good one.

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado, LS, 2 Wheel Dr. It’s got the 5.3 L Vortech engine and the four speed automatic transmission. I’ve only had it a year this upcoming June. When I bought it last year, I purchased it from the second owner. The day I bought it, it only had 55,000 km on it. Because I am a long-haul truck driver, I brought it to my local Chevy dealership and had them go through the truck with a fine tooth comb, as well as flush and fill all the fluids with synthetic. I’ve got 66,000 km on it now and the interior and exterior is just as good as the day. It rolled out the assembly line. I absolutely love this truck I’ll be keeping this for quite a long time.
I'm looking to get an older used truck for camping and such. I have a daily driver but I live in a downtown area so if I want to tow a small trailer (boat or tent camper) can a smaller truck handle the load? I prefer smaller since well I dont have large parking spots
Yep. A smaller truck can tow upwards of 5,000 lbs. Most pop-up campers and small boats are half that much weight.
The fact that they even consider Ridgeline a truck tells me these results are questionable at best!

Back in the '80s we had a Sierra 1500 6.2L diesel, and put over 400,000 miles on it. In the early 2000s I bought a Sierra 1500 and couldn't get rid of that thing fast enough. In 2002, I replaced it with an F150 Lariat that now has over 290,000 miles on it. So, I think there's a fair amount of variability when brands do a refresh, when they trot out new powertrains, etc. I've owned three F150s now, and have generally been pleased. The overall quality of the GM stuff I've owned or test driven hasn't been as high. I was disappointed the last time I shopped Chevy when I saw trucks with so much plastic on the exterior that was warped by heat while the trucks were still on the dealer's lots, but that was a long time ago. I have yet to own a Ram or Tundra, but I know their owners can be every bit as fanatically loyal as any GM or Ford owner. Like some other commenters have said -- buy what you love, and ignore the other voices.

Awards are fine. But I dont recall jd power asking me. I have a 2003 Ford f150 with 276000 miles on it and it has been an excellant truck with no problems. This is my 3rd ford and they have been very reliable. Tried Chevy had problems from the first day I owned it finaly gave up on it after 2 years. Owned a dodge and it held up pretty well.

In some of those JD Power survey years such as 2018 Ford and GM. 1/2 tons had the same score.
I’ve had 2 4x4 Tahoe’s a 96 and.99. I put 30k on the 96 and the 99 has over 200k and is in the driveway now and it’s a great vehicle. Also had A 2004 silverado and a 2013 silverado they have all been great. Just sold the 2013 ext cab z71 to get a crew cab something. I’m looking at an older what I call the small tundra. I think they are better trucks than the new 5.7 large tundras. I also had a 5.7 tundra in that mix that needed an engine at 70,000 ish miles so that turned me off to those and the fact that they expensive as hell to work on. I put thick 90w oil in it and traded it as fast as I could.

Most reliable trucks we ever owned, were Chevy full sized with 4.3 engines and automatic transmissions. Over 250,000 miles and zero engine or transmission problems, or rear end or front end, or electrical problems.
