There is NO best truck !!! If ya work hard for your vehicle and it works good for ya it’s the best one out there ✌🏻
Agreed. Look at the rest of the comments and I would hope it’s more of a rivalry thing but some of them get personal.
The best truck would be the most reliable/general quality vehicle. If a truck has poor reliability, it's definitely not the best truck
@@peterjordansonthe2nd731I’ve found that if you maintain your vehicles they are usually reliable
I finally let my 2002 F150 go last June and bought a new 2023 Nissan Titan Pro4X. I love it! It's a fantastic truck! Quiet, comfortable, powerful, and sort of old school without stop/start, without cylinder deactivation, and still has hydraulic steering. It ain't the best on gas but I'm retired and don't drive all that much any more. The 400hp 32 valve V8 has a lot of torque that you feel running around town.
Thanks for all you do Tim. All of the info you put out is appreciated.
Welp - I just put down on a Platinum Reserve Titan. CANNOT BEAT THAT V8, the reliability and the ride is lovely. Is it a tad dated -sure. Do I care? No, less to to worry about, and i'll be driving it for 300000 miles if I want to, and I won't be in the shop every year. Good luck !
When am I going into the shop? My 2020 Ranger has had zero issues. I live in Wyoming and drive in the mountains every single day. When is my "every year" problems supposed to start? Do you have data to back up those claims? Or you just "know it"?
Nissan dealership in my area gives lifetime warranty on engine, transmission, and free oil changes for life on new vehicles. About to buy one as well after half a year of research into all these trucks.
@@danielrn133you realize they weren’t talking about you directly right? Merely a generalization as justification for their purchase.
Buying a discontinued truck. Yikes
@pryme2013 what do you see wrong with him buying a discontinued truck?
I have a 2023 GMC SIERRA SLT with the LZ0 and it has 11,000 miles on it and is just turning 1 year old. This truck was assembled in Mexico and the fit and finish was excellent. Average fuel economy is 28.0 mpg (hand calculated). I’ve had zero issues with this truck. It’s quiet, comfortable and has plenty of power. I also have a 2003 Silverado 2500 with the 6.0 liter gas motor and this has been an excellent truck as well. My ‘86 Ford F250 I kept for 23 years and was a good truck except for the front suspension. My motto has always been take care of your vehicles and most likely they will take care of you. Happy Holidays.
2021 f150. 5ltr 4x4 shorty. Third one of this type. It hauls, pulls, and gets in an out of tight places. Good in the woods. Great truck@.
Good summary Tim! Funny how folks think a certain brand is bad. All of these new trucks are pretty awesome. I grew up with a 3/4 ton ‘78 GMC, then my 1988 Chevy S-10. I didn’t have a (new) modern truck again until 2021, when I bought the 2014 Ram Outdoorsman trim. I was thoroughly impressed how far trucks came with just that 4th gen Ram. Then I bought the 2022 Ram Laramie that I stopped by to show you. WOW! I drive it pretty much daily and I’m still Amazed how nice it is. It’s fun to keep up with all the new trucks news and updates. Thanks!
P.S….still dreaming of getting a TRX, probably not a trx. 😢
Agree. The technology, comfort, reliability, are all off the chart. I was reading an article about how even tire technology is constantly improving. New vehicles are expensive, but they are pretty amazing.
I have GMC denali 6.2. I had a preformance shop delete the afm. 420 hp. I'm 66 and love it. Average 24.5 at 77 mph 150 mile trip.
In Minnesota, so even in that environment .
I bought the 2024 Tundra Limited TRD 4x4. LOVE IT! To me, quality/reliability/resale matter to me, and that is where Toyota always comes in first!
My top 3 trucks I wouldn't mind buying (not in order), Ford F-150, Toyota Tundra, and Chevy Silverado. My dad has an 2009 F-150 bought new no issues, I have a Camry but if I were to get a truck it'll be the silverado for sure!!!
Thanks Tim. @19:23 LOL. True truck guy right there.
You can get the GT package for the Ram Laramie and Rebel trims that gives you a console shifter instead of the dial.
Hi Tim-
Thanks for sharing.
Man Tim, it seems like all these trucks are amazing. After driving near 2,000,000,000 miles in pickups.. starting back in the 1970’s, there just isn’t a bad choice.
For me, it’s the pricing that really bothers me.
I did some research. The President at Ford motor company made $400,000 total compensation in 1980. that was about 10x the middle management pay average. Today, the CEO often earns $25,000,000+. This is about 250, 300 X the income of the average middle management employee today.
If we look at the the top 30 senior executives incomes, you’re looking at near $1.000,000,000. This has to play a role in these massive high prices.
Wow nice breakdown! This type of info needs to be on the news and until then nothing will change
@@johnmorris77 The news isnt going to change any of that. Unions have been explaining that to the general public for a loooong time and nothing has changed.
@@honey2badger many unions are compromised as well
I waited for the 3rd year production Tundra for a reason. SR5 4x4 as i don’t really need all the bling. I already have a serious off-road vehicle. Will stay stock for now. Will be eyeballing the 3rd year Taco.
Can't find RamBoxes on 1500 trucks on dealer lots. 😢 a Ram 1500 Limited with locking diff and ram boxes is a unicorn.
$60,000 RST truck is the volume best selling model dang that sounds pretty high
@Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk: Call me a skeptic, hater, etc., whatever you want. I cannot be convinced that these turbocharged engines will last as long as the naturally aspirated V8's that are going away. It is a shame the consumer won't have a choice shortly as they are being forced on us. Yes, the turbocharged engines offer more low-end torque and more power according to the seat of your pants but that doesn't make it better. The engine works harder, there is more pressure with direct injection, more strain on the transmission.
Folks like me who feel this way will migrate to 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks that are not much more expensive than a half ton but still offer large displacement V8 gasoline engines. Yes, the ride will be a little compromised when the bed is empty but the truck is built to handle more abuse and daily wear and tear. For me, I am thinking F-250 with the 7.3 Godzilla. Others might go GM with the 6.6 gasser or Ram with the 6.4 Hemi. These trucks are just better in my humble opinion.
Good luck to those going for half tons with turbocharged engines. I hope I am wrong and you get 250k miles out of them. I just can't do it.
The best one is a paid off affordable truck.
How does the moisture ventilate when the top is completely seeped shut with the reflective layer and then the insulation. You don’t leave any room for air and moisture to escape?
I would say the tremor and zr2 are more similar because they are both more trail trucks. I would say at4 is more similar to the fx4 package.
Does GM offer cloth seats on their mid trims and up? Maybe those will be more comfortable for you. I know I love cloth seats.
Seeing some comments, I don’t understand the brand loyalty thing. I think manufacturers need to earn your trust every year with better products and the truth is, they all have made great trucks and they have made lemons too. Don’t buy based on brand. Go test each truck and do your research on them.
Smart comment!
I heard the Ford V8 Coyote engine now has cylinder deactivation. Have you heard of any issues?
I think some truck brands do a good job of offering decent equipment at the low end. Buyers should really start at the bottom and really spend some time thinking about what they must have instead of what looks cool. I bought a new 2023 F150 XL SuperCrew with a few upgrades. Nope it doesnt have somethings. No heated seats, no sun roof... but it has blind spot monitoring, back up sensors, CarPlay/Android Auto and comfy cloth seats. I love it. Oh, the thing I like most: It has a tailgate that only does normal tailgate things. Like opening with a handle.
Thanks for being a subscriber for 3 years! CZcams has a new notification that lets me see that.
The XL is supposed to be a work trim, yet I see it being the new low-end consumer grade for most customers. You get what you want, not what you don't and it is cheaper.
The GM 2,7 engine and the 8 speed were updated in 2022. I have this combo in 2 trucks and really like how well they work.
Putting a tiny 4 banger in a full size truck is absolutely dumb.
@@tboe-cr8pz
The main complaint was due to reliability. Economy was the unexpected complaint because it didn't meet expectations. But people were thinking that the engine was going to blow up fairly quick. That's not the case with the 2.7t 4 cylinder. The 2.7t is GM's most reliable full size truck engine that utilizes cylinder deactivation. Over the 5.3, over the 6.2, even over the 3.0td. It's only fault was the transmission, which now has been updated but still needs to be tested. People needlessly complained about the 2.7t because it's small for a full size truck. Not even giving it a chance. Hell GM needs to make an inline gas powered twin turbo 6 cylinder version of it to replace the v8s. Probably prove more reliable than the v8s. While producing more power with low end torque.
@@99-Zulu A twin turbo six would prove to be more reliable then say the 5.3L V8? That's very funny.
@@jloutz
Why not? The 2.7t has already proven that it's more reliable than the v8s. Why couldn't an inline 6tt based off the 2.7t do the same thing?
@@99-Zulu Sure, maybe it could. I've had zero point zero issues with the 5.3L in my 2007 Tahoe. I did replace the rear passenger side window motor and the navigation system does some goofy stuff. Please send a link to all of this 2.7t reliability data, when you get the chance.
Hey Tim, if you had to buy a truck today with the plan to keep it 10 years what would be your choice?
A basic work truck, less to break down. Then find something with a very common/strong power plant like the 5.7 hemi or the 5.0 coyote. The Ram Classic is probably the best value, it's been out for over a decade now and finding used parts will be no issue.
Tim you commented that you think the 5.3l lifter issue has been corrected as you are not seeing as many comments about it lately. But is there any real definitive evidence from GM that it has been corrected? I’m in the market for a new full size truck (have a F150 now) and I want to give more consideration to the Silverado 5.3l, but I can’t bring myself to do so if this is still an issue.
I've tried many times to get definitive statements from automakers over the years and it is damn near impossible sometimes. I'll see what I can do.
Same here I want the 6.2 but I read that the lifter issue has a higher chance of happening in that engine than the 5.3 and don’t wanna bite the bullet if it hasn’t been fixed
I'm considering a truck and the GMC does look much better to me than the Chevy, but I realize that's subjective. I also like the look of the Ram and the interiors seem much nicer in the Ram. Not a huge fan of the Ford, but I should check it out.
Enjoying my trouble free 2021 F150
Ummm…the correct answer, is “Titan.”
😂
What about the splitting roof in 23-24 Chevy/GMC trucks?
The one they fixed?
Happy with the Tundra Hybrid. Fantastic truck.
Congrats and enjoy! What model Tundra did you buy?
@@cwqrpportable Hybrid Platinum, love the interior and exterior in Blueprint color. Wanted the air bags for towing. Super happy with the truck.
@@JIPlatium That sounds like a sweet ride……enjoy! We RV with our F150 hybrid and the 7.2kwh power on board is a game changer for our dry camping.
@@cwqrpportable that would be nice for sure to have the power on board. I don't RV, but glad it works for you! Grats on your truck too
You are happy with a hybrid truck that gets 19 mpg? I hate mine. It is a rolling box of cheap shit. Mine is gone within the next five months.
I'm currently shopping around for a full size truck to purchase by the end of the year roughly. The mid-sized trucks don't suit my needs. I'm comparing all brands right now and pricing. My main things that I'm looking for are space in the back seat, 3 children with car seats and booster seats. Also for hauling my fishing gear and towing a kayak on a trailer or in the bed in the future. Any recommendations
Lots of good options. They all work for what you posted.
In 1975 I bought my first F-100, $3900, 2 wheel drive, automatic,a/c am-fm radio. 390V-8 and 8ft box
you can build a 24 now, i went on the ford site today...
I drive a ram, it’s pretty nice
Me too 👍🏾
Wait till 100k miles.
The tundra offers an 8 ft bed in the lower 2 trims
People of channel and of course Tim, I need some opinions! I have a good job no family no dependents and my company pays for my gas. I can get pretty much any truck available new; any model any engine and gas is paid for. I am not too fancy but I do care tremendously about performance and dependability, and I’d like to take excellent care of the truck and keep it forever and pass down to my future kids or nephew. What should I get???? Requirements are new, 1500 or bigger, fast/powerful. Diesel or gas either. Will be daily driver and highway miles. Rarely off roading if ever. Minimal hauling. Thoughts?
I myself have towed a fifth wheel and boat for 20 years. So hauled some weight and used a heavy half ton GM 6L 2003. Had great power and suspension hauled with now issue. I have a 2019 Ram now and still do. Truck is great. Power is fantastic and also towed a 36 ft travel trailer for my friend. No no no problems with power or suspension sag. I do tow my boat and small trailers now but don’t require a diesel at all or anything more than a 1500. 1500 Hemi is more than enough for what I do. Why spend a lot more money on 3/4 or diesel truck for when it’s not needed and not to mention the higher maintence costs and diesel fuel is more expensive. Long story short for me. I wanted a proven power plant (Ram,Hemi and ZF transmission). Ride comfort. Luxury. Retired now so my Ram was the pick for me. Plus I work on my own vehicle and it’s so easy to work on under the hood. Ya got room and less plastic junk around the engine. Good luck with your choice and enjoy. 👍
@@ramrider1453 I appreciate that
If I were on the market today for a brand new 1/2 ton truck, my first and only choice would be the Chevy/GMC 1500 twins with the 3.0L engine. If I wanted a used 1/2 ton truck, it would be the 2014 - 2021 Toyota Tundra, a simple truck that would last forever.
Well... I was drawn into this video by "which one is best?" 30 minutes later, the question remains unanswered. That's numerous cycles of respiration and fired neurons that were wasted. Did I miss it?
One comment the RST lines up with the Elevation package.
SO GLAD I am not in the market for a truck now. While performance is truly incredible, prices are Insane and I'll just say the aesthetics don't do anything for me on any of them 😖
They all look 5x better with a 2 inch level and 33-34 inch tires. My 5th gen ram looked okay stock, now I see people all the time just staring at it. It’s the most beautiful truck I’ve ever had and I’ve had like 8 trucks lol
Nissan Titan is discontinued for MY 2025. There is still a 2024 MY Titan.
And it’s probably the most reliable truck.
I love the Titan. Love my 5.0 but if anything were to happen to it I think a Titan would be a great replacement.
If I lived in the high country, I'd buy a Ford with the 3.5 ecoboost. Turbo engines don't lose as much performance at high altitudes as normally aspirated. I say Ford because they have been making that engine for 14 years.
We all know Ford is the best, I have a 94 F-350 7.3 5 speed dual rear wheels, a 85 F-250 6.9 and a 05 F-150 5.4, I love them all.
What about the Chev 6.6 gas engine? Maybe I missed that.
Great engine for sure, but it's only available on the HD trucks, not the half ton models reviewed here.
Been great for me. And better track record than the 7.3 over at ford
For performance go 6.2 if you need economy go 3.0 diesel or split difference with 5.3
My Ram has spent more time in the shop than on the road.
I can’t even sell it at this point. Still not fixed after 6 weeks.
Once it’s fixed I’m immediately sellers!!!
I'm looking for a full size truck, 6' bed, I'm 6'5". My kids are tall too so room in the back. I'm not going to use it to tow.
I would like to see how the titan does in comparison
Why? It doesn’t exist anymore.
No kidding ? Then why am I seeing 2024's ?@@Pickuptrucktalk
Ram has come a long way since 2019 the best rides like a mercedes
"Customers get a better driving experience with more low-end torque". Not sure if they are paying you to say that but there is no way those 4 bangers or even 6 have a better driving experience than an 8. The six may make similar power (unless the 8 is supercharged) but just do not feel the same. The smaller engines just sound crappy. The manufacturers want people to believe that they are great so they can continue selling vehicles because they know the EPA is riding them hard.
I would like you do a video on your expert opinion on trucks great video as good videos you do stay safe and keep up the great work
I thought you were gonna talk about your driving experience
As far as reliability all these makes were more reliable in the early 2000s
How about getting some real world feedback from truck owners.. if I want specs, I can read a brochure!
I have a 2016 high country. Meticulous on maint and the 75 k dollar pos is falling apart.
Never again in a gm
Thanks for comparing features but that’s exactly what all the other journalists do. What I really want to know is which one rides the smoothest, which one has the best steering, which one corners the best, which one feels the most spacious, which one handles a moderate payload or tow load the best, if you had to have 1 for the next 5 years which one would you choose. That’s the type of info I want to know and I watch video after video and nobody speaks on any of it except power mpg and tfl does good on the towing.
And someone will comment saying go drive them yourself. Yea I have and I will but I want to do research before I’m at the dealer so I know what things to look for and I’m not test driving until I’m ready to write a check for 65k
There is no way the Ram is the most reliable truck ?? I know too many people who own them even the newer trucks from 2019 on and they have plenty of issues.
Its not an issue if they dont fix it, mine is pretty nice except when its not and dealer wont agree with me that something doesnt feel right so i guess those issues wont be reported
I don’t believe trucks are better than ever. Used to be you could buy most brands and they’d last a long time can’t say that anymore. I’ll take reliability and durability over tech every time. Even Toyota sold its soul.
I think the Chevy LTZ is the closest thing to the sierra slt
Hi - Bread 😂
Hi! I’m thinking of getting a preowned full-sized pickup truck as daily work truck. I have a commute of 40 mile one-way (1.5 hrs) then another 1hr drive home in horrid SoCal traffic. I haul mostly network cabling installation equipment in the bed, and do not tow.
What brand, model year, engine and grade do you recommend? I would like to have some of the newer active safety features such as the automatic emergency braking system to avoid front collisions, but not as critical as long-term reliability and durability. Any suggestions for a late model pickup truck with Direct and Port Injection. Also, what immediate and affordable engine and transmission mods for reliability and durability do you recommend to protect the powertrain? I’m not looking for more power, just long-term reliability and durability as I don’t have too much money and need a truck for work and personal use. Thank you!
