- Chicken Fried Steak. Mrs. Meat Church has proclaimed this the best thing that Matt cooks. It's tough to beat a good chicken fried steak with cracked pepper gravy.

CFS is how I judge restaurants. I can't believe this channel is only at 142k subscribers. Should be well over a mill!!
Thanks Jonathan!
I usually judge by burgers unless they have this on the menu. If they call it "country" fried I dock them 10 points right there.
It WILL grow! I started watching a while ago and there was a lot of time between videos. Now that he is posting more regularly, THEY WILL COME!
Jonathon, are you from Oregon? If so have you ever eaten at Aunt Dings before they retired? I thought they had the best chicken fried steak in the area. I also judge restaurants by there CFS.
@@dangonzalez2585 I am. Unfortunately I haven't heard of the place you mentioned. Annette's Westgate in west Salem is pretty good though. And Word Of Mouth in Salem has CFS with filet mignon.
I'm glad you put enough pepper. If you can't see it, it ain't enough.
That's right
I slip a little extra in inside the dredge as well. Every bite has got a black pepper kick
my Uncles use to take the lid off the pepper shaker to apply. i think it was only on there to keep the fly's out.
If you aint sneezin it aint seasoned lol
i realize I am kind of randomly asking but do anybody know a good website to stream newly released series online?
Dang. I just ate dinner 20 minutes ago and now I’m hungry again after watching that. Love me some chicken fried steak. 👍🏻👍🏻
The use of the cast iron skillets for mixing bowl and dredging is awesome. Love cast iron.
Those steaks look delicious!
The good Southern boy in me is excited to see him work with three cast iron skillets
5:26 “till it’s brown, flagrant.” 😂
My man calling fouls on the flour
Nice job !!! When you pull steak out of pan put on edge. Don't lay flat will kick up the crunch. My preference gravy on the side dip when eating. Put gravy on meat takes away from crunch factor. Looks really good!!!!
Thank you for this Matt. Since moving to Colorado for work, I've not found a single restaurant that does a decent CFS. You know what they say, if you want something done right...
Always great content Matt!!! Can’t wait to try this out!!!! Oh, and you can never have too much gravy!!
My first attempt at Chicken Fried Steak! Since my husband is from Kansas I tried it. He gave the meal a 10/10. Thank you for such a great recipe!
Definitely going to be on the make ASAP list. Love Meat Church
Forget that "butter & flour" stuff. Make the gravy with someof the frying oil and cracklins from the original frying pan. Strain the oil and dump the cooked crumbs and some of the oil back into the original pan, then use the seasoned breading flour to make the well browned roux. 2/3 milk and 1/3 water mixed and preheated in the microwave will help prevent a steam/splatter explosion when you pour it into the hot roux pan. Add salt and pepper as needed to taste. This is a gravy with some character and taste - not white paper paste.
It’s how my granny did it
If you use one hand for the wet dredge and one hand for the dry dredge is helps from getting the clumped up flour stuck to your hands. Recipe looks great, ganna give it a go.
Well executed! I know it’s really a messy task, but very much worth it! It would be my last meal HANDS DOWN!! Thanks again !!
Relax and the fried chicken, taste so good when I eat with the Delta Parole music on blast the fried chicken is love fried chicken is life.
When i take my cubed steak up, I try to place it on it’s side against the side of the dish. I found it gets less soggy while waiting to be plated.
Thanks for great vids as always!
Your videos are great. Your videos are the only one my wife will watch with me out of all the shows I watch. I keep telling her I want to attend your class.
Such an easy dish that most eateries seem to screwup generally due to the oil being not hot enough. that looked awesome, one of my favorite meals if done correctly. if not, it needs to be served with a side order of toilet paper. looks great Matt.
Hey Matt, this video needs an update! I love this recipe and I know after 2 years of perfecting your video crafts this could be epic update on an old classic TX staple! I'm making Chicken Fried Chicken tonight with basically everything you have shown here (cream gravy, mashed taters and green beans w/bacon). This is basic Texas comfort food...beef or chicken, it's all good!!!
This NYC girl had CFS with gravy on a business trip in Midland- dang! Was that ever delicious!!! Thanks for posting this how to- hubby gonna’s love it !, 😉
Proud to be a Meat Church ambassador!
Chicken fried steak is every good southern boys “last meal” throw in some fried okra and it’s complete
That looks absolutely delicious.Thank you for the recipe
In Denmark, I've had this done with Pork Belly. They call it Stegt Flæsk (pronounced Steak Flesk, or close to that). I get it each time I go out there for work.
You are the Man! Thank you for adding to my menu. Seeing you in 2022. Oregon loves Meat Church !!
I've made CFS many times but am now thinking about how delicious this would be if it was done like Korean fried chicken where it is fried once after the first dredge, taken out and then dredged and fried again for an extra crispy outside.
Just made this tonight for me and my wife. I ordered your chicken fried breading but i used your gospel seasoning in the gravy and it was so good. i just ordered your holy cow and will try that next time. But this chicken fried steak was AMAZING. Thank you
Honey Hog is great on pork shoulder super super good
Chicken fried steak is supposed to be cheap. You made that meal way more expensive than it needed to be.
So much win for every southerner in this video!
This reminds me of my grandma’s biscuits and gravy! Keep this up!
My kids favorite meal is double dipped chicken fried venison backstrap . I use the fry oil as basis for the gravy so not sure why you start over w butter
Winner winner chicken ahhh steak dinner
Add a few dashes of hot sauce, i use Tabasco, to the liquid and it adds a little something extra but doesn't make it spicy.
My favorite dish
“Don’t hold these vegges against me.” I friggen love this channel
Great video. Used to get chicken fried steak coming back from the oil patch. Makes me want to fire up the cast iron. Thanks
Nothing like homemade Chicken Fried Steak! Can't wait to try this recipe. Great Job!!
Amazing. That’s a last meal kind of CFS. 👍👍. Mission accomplished, I’m inspired.
Lol “cracked pepper bae” - that’s central Texas style!
Go to Harbor Freight and get one of those hooked picks you pull seals out with and it’s perfect to handle the meat. Or make one out of a wire coat hanger.
If I break out the dredge my lady always asks for this. Then we usually do fried chicken or tenders for dinner. I’m loving my meat church seasoning. The voodoo is off the chains!
A classic. But a splash or three of original Tobasco is a must!
I ain’t mad about it either brother!!! Loooks GOOD!! Great video Matt.
I'll be doing this one up real soon! Thanks Matt
Found out about the Meat Church after seeing him with Malcolm Reed who I’m a fan of. Found out The Meat Church is only 20 minutes away from my house. Went to buy the flour from there and will try on Pork chops tonight and steak next time
I'm a chicken fried steak kind of guy and that sure looks good. That will for sure be on my shot list for making.
I love it and do this all the time in Canada. We have a different version of gravy though hahaha. Cheers!
Now that’s Texas food there!!
Definitely on the immediate "to do" list!!! Looks fantastic!!!
My thought exactly!
Don’t know why I haven’t subscribed sooner probably just thought I already was! I like your channel! You do your own thing, not over the top, or a cheap knock off of other channels. Most importantly, always some great pointers to be had!
Picked up some of your Holy Voodoo rub the other day at a local store. Holy wow did ever turn out perfect on some pork chops!
AWESOME!
Man, what a hole in the boat: Imagine, having like a half-million dollars worth of well-used and tested barbecue grills and smokers in your garage, and all the years of learning the craft only to have your wife tell you the best thing you do is Sunday Brunch, (that you do every Sunday), Texas-style, with meemaw's old hand-me-down cast iron skillet...
You can imagine early settlers making this dish. They didn't have oil so the streak was fried in butter. Now, what to do with the leftover flour and butter from frying and breading? Let's add them together to make something and not let anything go to waste. Gravy was invented!
Man nice job Matt. That's one of my favorite meals right there!
Been a while, but finally purchased my Masterbuilt offsetSmoker 1050 it will be delivered Tommarow

How about a Meat Church cookbook?
Love these. Yum.
Love the iron!
That looks good that’s one of my favorite meals
That looks delicious 🤤 gonna try to make some !!
Dang that looks so good. I need some of the meat church dredging flour. Gonna make it this weekend😋
Looks amzing...Simple but beutiful. Not too intimidating I just might give it a try
Alright alright alright. Ant made about it. Mate , you’re the best!
Thanks Sean!
that's some good stuff right there.
I'll be making this one!!!
thanks
Awesome chicken dish sir. I wouldn't be mad about it either.
You the man Jay!!
👊🏽
Love me a vintage cast iron! I’ve got a victor griswold too! 723 no.9.
What model are those? I like the size and depth.
9s as well!
@@MeatChurchBBQ Rock on! Thanks for another inspirational video!
Not a BBQ Video ? AIN'T MAD ABOUT IT!!!
That looks very good. Ever try it with venison? How about double-meat and top with sausage gravy?
Ordered the kit, ready to eat.
looks great.
Gonna make this for sure
Oh hell yeah, making this for dinner tonight!
Gonna be a good night!!
@@MeatChurchBBQ
Cracked pepper gravy going on now!
Trying to bring some Texas to Australias west coast😂
Yeah, I'm making this tonight. 😁
Yea Buddy 👍
very nice video
Looks great... beans too!
This video is only missing one thing, a cold Miller Lite! Man that looks amazing.
Fact!
"Mrs Meat Church." Cracks me up every time.
Looks delicious 😋
So glad I came across you're channel definitely got my sub and like
Note: always use the skillet you fry in to make the gravy.
i just drooled on my keyboard god damnit
Would have used grease (with the little browned bits that fell off the steak) from the frying pan, not butter for the gravy, but as long as it’s not burned p, you can ruin chicken fried steak...
Good stuff!!
Heck yes I ain't mad about it!
Looks like there is corm meal in that packaged breading.
I do love me a little corn meal in my flour dredge.
Hey Matt - "Smoked Black Pepper"?? I think I need to make some of this - Any instructions you'd be willing to share, purdy please? 🙂
Canyou please show all of that space
A Griswald ?Nice .
Second video, subbed. You're great my man! Keep it up!
Ain’t nothing better than CFS!
Nicely done ✔
I know this is church but damn that looks good.
you gotta see cowboy Kent Rollins version of this.
Pro tip, use one hand for wet dip and one hand for dry dip when you dredge. Makes less of that mess you talked so much about. Great recipe!
Food looks delicious, but the metal whisk on the cast iron was audio hell.
Texas has the best chicken fried steak!!!!
I don’t disagree!
What smoker is that in the background?! That thing looks huge!
Mill Scale 94 gallon.
(Insert loud clapping sound) Well done!
