    Hi again Sam......really enjoyable vides, even my wife stopped reading to look at the tenders......I have a similar problem, at first would store trains in their boxes but doing that one tends to forget, so like you I have them on display. Thanks again 😀

      +mairuz1 Thanks a lot mate - I know the boxes are a good idea, but as you say, it's a terrible shame to keep them out of sight! I'm going to try and manage for as long as possible before I start to do that!

    Great update mate. I need to catch up on your vids..I've not been around much and I like to watch everything all the way through. That CD motor is an inspired idea and it works really well, as you say. I think I'd like to try one in my old Class 37 :) Nice bodywork mods, too. and yes...I have some 'brutally disposed' items somewhere down the end of the garden (via window....lol) Those lights are a great idea...I think I need something like that myself. The pictures, certs and posters are a good idea to decorate a 'Railway Room'. ....Love the boxes!!..lol. My HM 2000 controller has always done the power drop after half way. Interesting to know that it seems to be endemic. Keep up the good work mate. All the best...Tom

      +kirk jones Hi mate, good luck with the motor mod - it was quite straight forward, the only trick thing is to make sure the gear is glued onto the shaft so it's dead centre - I used loctite gel to glue it since it dries on metal in seconds!

    Hi Sam, storage is an on going puzzle for many I would guess. Like yourself I have some locos and stock loose but in larger boxes, but as time goes by, I find I am buying generic boxes for used locos. These boxes then sit in larger plastic boxes with lids, for strength, which can then stack.
    The detailed locos stay in their original boxes, probably the safest place for them. : )
    Hope this helps. : )
    Regards, Cliff.

    Hi Sam, just a couple of questions. I have a 125 from the 70s-80s same problem with the ringfield motor, very slow. Have a number of CD, motors run well tested hooked up to the gaugemaster controller, what sort of glue did you use on the small cog and on the drive spindal. If possible would you be able to do a complete video on a conversion if time permits. Thanking you, John from Oz.

      Hiya Sam. For storage I've started collecting the hardboard stackable boxes (Spanish Clementines) that supermarkets get in at Xmas, aprox 30cm x 20cm x8cm high. they will hold a rake of 5 coaches or 5 locos with tenders etc. Th e beauty is they are shaped to stack safely as high as you want AND you get to eat the clemantines ;)

  • @russellbenton2987
    @russellbenton2987 Před 8 lety

    Ok a couple of suggestions. 1. More shelving. 2. Why not store locos in their boxes, storing employ boxes in your chest is a bit of wasted space. I store most of my locos in their original boxes. Why do you store the tenders separate from the locos. If you attached them wouldn't they fit on your shelf?

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  Před 8 lety +1

      +Russell Benton Thanks a lot mate, a new shelf might definitely be in order! I know to store locos in their boxes is sensible, but I really do like having them all out on display - it makes video planning much easier too, as well as being more practical! And yeah, there's no space for the tenders on some shelves, and on others I can squeeze more locos in if the tenders are kept elsewhere!
      Thanks a lot for the tips mate, I'm definitely going to look into a new shelf or two up there!
      Cheers,
      Sam :)

    Hi Sam, you have some excellent skills my friend. I am very impressed with the room you have for your layout, I wish I had a room like yours. Building a baseboard is something I'd really love to do one day, but unfortunately I'm not able to make any permanent changes to the current room since It's my parent's house and they'd completely lose their loft hehe ;)

    Is there any chance you had a video showing the mounting process for the CD motor into the 125 chassis?
    Has anyone modified a 125 chassis to have both bogies with powered wheels? Either with motors on both wheels or sharing the motor between two bogies like American diesels do?

    • @SamsTrains

      Hi David - yes I've since done a video on that - you should be able to find it by doing a CZcams search!

      Yes, just found it. Thanks for doing it and pointing me in the right direction when I was too stupid (lazy) to look in the first place.
      Has anyone done a conversion to adding a second motor to one of these chassis to improve the number of driving wheels? While I love my 125's, I get very frustrated with the lack of pulling power with it just getting power / traction from one bogie.

    Great video. I recently bought a second hand HM2000. Being new to me I checked the voltage terminals and as the dial was turned the voltage increased to 12 volts up the the halfway mark then dropped to 6 volts before increasing again to 12 volts with the dial turned fully. Do you think this is a fault or something to do with the feedback system. Locos seem to run fine. Would appreciate your advice.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  Před 4 lety

    Storage - you are going to have to sleep in a cupboard or a hammock. Problem solved. Seriously ,"Tender Tower" - place your empty loco boxes UNDER the tenders (should make a flat surface) - you might even get two layers of empty loco boxes supporting the tenders. (You may only want to preserve the box, not the moulded polystyrene, obviously you could discard the polystyrene, then carefully fold the emptied cardboard box flat (maybe yoy wish to preserve both)). Hornby HM2000 - had same problem when connected to auxiliary (HM2000x?). Bought another HM2000, worked well. Seems the problem was the auxiliary 9 pin connection, not the old HM2000. I seem to learn more from my mistakes as I get older, not benefit from experience!

    Hi Sam. I find your enthusiasm and your collection of locos a real treat. But...I can't understand why don't you stop using the carpet as a baseboard. Why you don't turn that nursery into a layout room and put up a real model railway. None of my business and of course you live your life as you please. But if I were you I would use that loft for a proper layout. Storage for trains....sidings. thanks for all the videos

      Thanks very much for the comment! The biggest 'selling point' for my channel is that it appeals to children - if I was building a layout just for me to enjoy, I would do it on baseboards - but as a business, it works 10x better on the carpet I've found!
      Thanks for watching,
      Sam :)

    Was anyone else screaming "Not on the carpet!!!" ?

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  Před 6 lety +1

      I don't think so... I've run on carpet for years, and with over 300 locomotives, I've never had a problem!
      It's absolutely fine as long as you keep it clean... I prove that every day! :D
      Thanks for watching,
      Sam :)
