Brendan is such a well-spoken and informed/experienced person!
Also, so many things make more sense in my little brain now, because you both are amazing at explaining really complicated things in simple terms..
Thank you for having him on the Look Back Diaries and for telling us this story!! 🥺🥺
When Ashley noted that Hank was on the Lookback Diaries (while others were not) 🫢 she said what she said!!
I love how far the mind pocket metaphor has come
We love bits!
Wow, this was a fascinating watch. It’s one thing to support the writers’ strike just knowing generally how streaming has screwed everyone over, but this frank glimpse into how you and the rest of the cast had to grapple with so much shitty behavior in relation to a show we all love so much, and have always thought of as a scrappy indie production, is a real cherry-on-top of the ways creators are taken advantage of in these new media deals.
Me, the entire time: Damn.
i fully clicked on this like yay new look back diaries and didnt realize How Long it was until brendan told me to pack a lunch very exciting
I remember seeing LBD on TV and being so excited because it meant that a show that I loved would be shown to more people. I also remember a tweet from somebody on the team saying they had no idea this was on TV and I was confused about how part of the team that made the show didn't know about it
When he said pack a lunch, pour some tea I was like whoa, since I'm on my lunch break eating my lunch and sipping my (cold) tea
I'm gonna knit hats with pockets now
We got the perspectives of LBD and Frankenstein MD on this whole terrible situation thanks to you two, Ashley and Brendan! But now I wish someome from EA cast would speak up, since from all the live streams and interviews I've seen of them, that cast seemed to be on very good terms with Bernie. I wonder what was going on there. And the revival of EA happened in 2018, after the 2017's being on TV and no residuals...so, well, I'm curious how the cast came along despite all the stupid dealings going on behind!
I believe the cast of EA had a very different experience. There was more money from the start and they were given things the LBD cast had to fight for. And they never had a Kickstarter debacle. We discuss the reboot a little in part two.
@@TheAshleyClements oh yeah, right, agreed. Eagerly waiting for next week's part 2!
You're both so good at explaining the ins and outs of this to people not familiar with the industry! I think this is really helpful to understanding the current strikes too. Also, I watched Non-Transferable last year! Interesting to hear more about how it was made.
Yes hat pockets! Pockets in pants (including pajamas). Pockets in skirts. Pockets pockets pockets! Pockets for days. Stuff that in your mind pocket.
I'm sitting here listening to this and with the specific context of this video the constant referral to "Pemberley"s failings on deliverables. Suddenly I just have the P&P line (Judi Dench stylez) in my head “Are the shades of Pemberley to be thus polluted?'” None of this is funny, but gosh did it make me laugh.
The insights in this episode were fascinating. This might be in the top 5 of Lookback Diaries episodes ngl
Wow. Thanks to you both for explaining things so well to someone who knows nothing about the industry.
Vlogbrothers fans and Austenites as your fan base. I think that Venn diagram has a pretty big middle section, no?
Funny, after the last episode, I sort of thought there was nothing more to discuss. Lol. This was a really interesting look at how all this works.
Oh hi, Brendan! It’s so good to see you!
Oh my, for the first few seconds of the ep, I was: “why aren’t they in the same room? WHAT HAPPENED?” Luckily, you cleared that up quickly! Phew!
This is so interesting! I am completely captivated!
Clearly BS was put in charge of something he had no idea how to manage, or he knew but hoped that nobody else knew anything so he could put as much money in his pocket…
I think when the Kickstarter ended, I didn’t know all of this things that I know now, but I was so closely monitoring anything LBD, I knew this guy wasn’t trustworthy. Then I remember Brendan tweeting about the TV residuals. Then the LBD wedding script and when you announced it wasn’t going to become reality… How is this guy still working in the industry?
It’s also interesting to learn about the bts of the Non-Tranferable Project.
Hiiiiiii!
Frankenstein was so rough to watch in this format
Does someone know what happened to Frankenstein M.D? The series is not available on CZcams anymore, the videos are private now on the PBS Studios channel. Only the bonus content are still on CZcams because it was published on a Pemberley Digital channel. I find it really sad that out of nowhere, the show is no longer available :(
My best guess is that this whole situation created a legal problem but I don’t know more details than that.
@@TheAshleyClements I watched it in 2020 or 2021, it was still available then
Not to make everything worse (possibly making everything worse?) as far as I'm aware, the DVDs and merch are still being sold. I got the DVD box and poster in 2021 I think
The plot thickens!
From DFTBA? They’re not up anymore.
@@TheAshleyClements I don't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure I got them from DFTBA then (I also paid an insane amount of import taxes, so I definitely got them from the US). Maybe they have sold out since? I remember some other merch things were not available anymore, like the "everyone deserves tea" mug, but I got the poster and DVD so at least those were still available.
@@CindersSpot I know I bought both in the last 3 years, but pretty sure they were both used through Amazon, which would seem to be a whole different thing.
@@Dreaming707 Yeah, mine were new and through DFTBA
Wow, this is fascinating. I mean I obviously knew there was some bad blood, but... wow. The hits just keep on coming.
😁
Bernie Su now sounds like Bernie Madoff......
