I met you at Vidcon 2014, and it was certainly one of the highlights of my Vidcon experience that year. LBD was a really special show for me, watching it air live as I read P&P for the first time as a high school senior. I still revisit it for the beautiful portrayal of this story I love, and it stands so strongly on its own as one of the best transformations of this classic story. I was also so grateful for how kind and open you and the LBD cast were when I met you at Vidcon, and I am equally grateful for your honesty and openness in the Look Back Diaries. Hearing all of this information certainly changes the way I think about the show and that moment in time for internet content, but I echo your sentiment that the enjoyment for the show can and must stand alongside the knowledge of the exploitation that allowed this product to exist. All that to say thank you, Ashley.

When you talked about how you wouldn’t have accepted things they paid for if you knew they were coming from the kickstarter fund, there was a small part of my brain that thought, well maybe that was the only way they could afford it (which of course was not an excuse for the numbers not adding up, but still), but I wasn’t thinking about the merch and the ad revenue, like…wow. All these extra tens of thousands of dollars and they couldn’t share ANY of it?
And the things I accepted were also unnecessary - like a group dinner and a VidCon hotel room. Don’t act like you’re treating me to something if I’m actually paying for it in a different way.

Three minutes in: "Kate and Bernie split an advance" on the book?! The same book where you asked him how it turned out and he said, "I don't know I haven't read it"? Argh. Okay, he does have writing credit for 26 episodes, and I assume that material was used in the book. Margaret Dunlap has writing credit for 29 episodes, so. How does that all work?
He owns the property, so he has control of any derivative content. It’s why I needed him onboard to make a Lizzie movie, which I’ll discuss in ep 114. He also took a portion of the Lydia book advance. He did imply in one email that some of the book money went into PD expenses, but I don’t have any breakdown of how his portion was allocated.
Good to hear your laptop survived the water spill last week. I do wonder about the "loose" end of the pemberley digital yt-channel revenue... is it just going to one person, or a group of people? And do you know if the actors on the other series had better conditions in their contract? Like did pemberley digital as an organisation learn from their mistakes?
Other actors had it better in some ways - pay started higher on EA, for example, and they shot over two days a month instead of one. And they got some other small stuff we had to fight for, like compensation/gas money for conventions. But the other stuff, no.

Is the audiobook still available as well? Not the physical one, but the audiobook… maybe? So they still make money of the book?
The audiobook and ebook are available, but I think that $ only goes to Simon & Schuster. Doesn’t really matter. I won’t receive another PD check, regardless.
It so sad to learn about the behind the scenes of LDB. I love rematching the CZcams vids. I just watched the whole about the app. I will NOT be downloading it.
