      Make sure the base is rotated counter clockwise all the way

      It is, I don’t know what I did wrong, but the key won’t come out or rotate back to lock or accessory position.

      My guess is There is linkage from the floor shifter to the column from the factory that is supposed to lock out the shifter when the key is out of the ignition. That system is malfunctioning, it could be from worn linkage bushing, body mount sag, bent components, or you might be able to get away with just adjusting it.

    Good video I once rebuilt a tilt column from a 66 Bonneville cut the shift lever off and installed it in my 65 GP it looked good enough if you didn't know the difference you wouldn't know the difference you don't find floor shift tilt columns just laying around

      Silly enough I had this column apart over 20 years ago to replace the ignition switch linkage that I showed in this video because it broke and almost left me stranded. I ended up removing the ignition switch from the column started the car with a screw driver turned the key to unlock the wheel then drove home. That’s when I purchased the special tools to disassemble GM columns. Wow how time flys.

    Jon, wondering if you could do me a favor. Regarding the location of the console mounting bracket that is secured to the floorpan: is it welded or bolted, and can you provide a dimension from the center of the bracket to the front lip/ seam of the floorpan where it welds to the rear edge of the firewall?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes I can get you those measurements when I get home today.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 lety +2

      The bracket is secured with two nuts on the studs of the console bracket. The holes need to be drilled 7 inches from the leading edge of the floor pan. There should be a V groove or channel stamped in the floor pan there. drill thru that centered to the transmission tune and you should be good

    When you restoring these cars, do you replace wiring harness or do you reuse the old. Thinking of running updated lighting and fuel injection

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      Most of the time I reuse them after inspection. Some people feel the best to thing is to replace them. The aftermarket ones are nice and seem to come with the correct plugs so the quality has definitely improved. I did morph the factory harness and LS engine ecm harness on the Transmaroado project they work well together. With that said to run fuel injection doesn’t necessarily require a harness upgrade. If your old harness is good I would adapt it and run it.

      70 GTO taillight / headlight harness need replacing. Dash harness appears to be good and I do plan on running LED headlight possibly. I would also like to upgrade to dakota digital. Still on the fence about LS/LSA or Holley terminator x for Poncho power with HEI distributor.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      I have been toying with the idea of the Holley system for the 494 poncho i have, I think I was going to use the Holley distributor so the ecm could operate spark curve so you can adjust timing electronically
