    put the key buzzer in before the lock cylinder. much easier. No need to make a hook to pull harness through. Just put harness in the opening and use a long screwdriver to push it through.

    Good morning from Michigan.
    Spring can't come quickly enough.
    My Poncho's out in the snow and the old GMC's sitting in its stall with a trashed front wheel bearing.
    I only gotv250 k miles out of it.
    Thanks again for all your solid info.
    It was 2 below a couple of nights ago and I pulled the Cat out.
    All that ice cold metal, a stock starter and that old girl fired up better than Mama's 2112 Surburban.
    I LOVE PONTIACS 💘

    Nice detail on the video! Having done this on my Chevelle’s column several years ago, I can say you made it look easy, with great narrative. Correct tools make a tough job much more tolerable!

      Thanks! In this case the special tools help and are worth it even if you only use them once.

    Appreciate the shout out I was creative with the name for the firebird 😂 you should name it the “redrum bird” so it’s still “murder bird” and also a reference to Pantera since we would be head banging to them while in that car 😎

    • @scottylimpin9177
      @scottylimpin9177 Před 2 lety

      And yes I know he doesn’t actually say redrum in cemetery gates just sounds like it 😅

      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      See I knew you where creative. Redrum bird might stick just like the black car. Its had that name for 20 years. Yes it has to have some way of playing some lovely sounds of pantera while driving it around again.

      Nice. You should get the spring compressor if you don’t have one makes the job much easier. Just about all parts store sell them.

    Isn’t the trunk key and glove box key the same as the doors? Wouldn’t you want to replace them all together with the same key?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Door and ignition are the same then glove box and trunk is the same on a 1969 Firebird. Not like newer cars

      @@VinylVillageGarage thanks a lot for that info. I have a 69 Firebird I’m working on now. I was given 2 keys that appear to be original, both are really old and say GM but the ignition uses one key and fits nothing else. The other key works both doors only. The trunk lock is missing and neither key works the glove box, which is locked of course lol. Is the glove box key able to be replaced? I’d like to get into it and unlock it without drilling it out and breaking it. I really don’t care if I can lock it, but it would be cool to have everything work and not have 4 keys lol. Now I know that either the ignition or door keys are not original to this car since they should be the same.

    Do you have a complete rebuild column for the 68 firebird dash mount key???

  • @michaelerickson1518

    The judge's are going to take points for all keyed the same

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      I wanted to keep the ignition and door lock keys the same. A long long time ago someone stole the keys to this car and I only changed the ignition and never locked the doors again. I figured now is the time to fix that issue.

      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 lety +2

      Couple names. Steering column spring, horn contact cancel cam pressure spring. If you want one Firebird Central sells them for like $14.00
