  • 1969 Pontiac Firebird Ram Air IV 4-Speed Muscle Car Of The Week Video #146
This week, we spotlight a car from The Brothers Collection we found at the Muscle Car And Corvette Nationals. It’s a freshly-restored 1969 Pontiac Firebird featuring the original 400 cubic-inch Ram Air IV V8 and Muncie 4-speed transmission. It’s a very good-looking but basic car, which is one of the reasons why we really dig it!

I had a 1978 Trans Am T/A 6.6. After I blew the engine racing a Corvette out on I-10 east of L.A. I had the engine rebuilt to Ram Air IV Specs with all the pertinent parts coming from Huffaker Engineering. It cost a LOT. But the result was worth every penny. At idle it sounded like an Offshore Power Boat. And it was brutally, wonderfully fast.

And yet ....... Another Awesome thing about the 80s,there were so many .............. The possibillities were WIDE OPEN as to what you might find out there, Randomly sitting in someones driveway with flat tires, or No drivetrain, or ......just a dead battery, ... They were in peoples garages, backyards, beside the house, a Field , and most people would be happy to have anywhere from 100.00 - 1500.00 handed to them for their old broken down, tired looking, neglected , "now" super rare Musclecar. And this was the case almost nationwide . ....

It's crazy isn't!! My dad even restored a Superbird back in the late 80's and it brought $8500 when he sold it. I was real young but I still remember that beautiful red son of a bitch!! 440 with a 4 speed. We both now wish he would have kept that car because we're just normal joe's that don't have alot of money.

Perfectly optioned car, the way I like them. RAIV, 4 spd, (Hoping at least a 3.90 gear), disc brakes, and "NO" pwr steering. Great drag car. Not a fan of the top and paint color, but the resto looks gorgeous.

@@mriosgto Brings back those old memories dosent it :) I remember a kid accross town that had a 67 GTO, He hd a 400 4sp as well. One sunny Sunday afternoon, at party is was invited to, he showed up and after a few beers started ragging on me and my "Shitbox". Challenged me with the encouragement of his buddies to race me. Of course my freinds encouraged me to race him. He kept taunting me and even suggested we race for titles. So we all went to a arera that was a dead end road and turned around and race a 1/4 mile run. I was never so scared in my life at the time. I figurd if I was going to lose my car. I would just give it everything it had. I won by about 2 feet. He drove off and a few hours later showed up at the bowling alley me and my crew hung out at. Brought a whole bunch of his freinds and wanted me to fight him for it. We didnt fight , I didnt get the car but on high school reunions, he gets asked all the time when a he is going to get my goat. I guess we'll play advocate here... we don't see this as a "stripped down" car... for THAT era. The only things missing from being considered nicely optioned is power steering, perhaps a console, and maybe an optional rear spoiler. Features like A/C (not available with RA IV... I don't think) were more common on cars from the southern U.S.; If it came from the northeast (Delaware) it would be common to have a rear window defogger. We think the vinyl top, factory styled wheels and wood-like steering wheel put it in a league of nicely optioned cars... for the day.

Was bought new in Delaware likely because of Dover Air Force Base in Dover and all the Vietnam vets that were coming home and passing through DAFB. Then once he bought the car, got discharged from military and headed home to Cali. Taking that piece of Delaware with him. The bastard!! (I live in Delaware.
Funny though, many very rare muscle cars were purchased in Pennsylvania just up the road from Delaware (DE is tiny). This Firebird is a rare Firebird for little old Delaware.
I'm not a fan of the colors at all. Triple tone with that black vinyl roof. Yuck.
