    Thanks for your review and insight into this watch. I really like this watch. For me, this is all the Rolex I'd ever need. I don't need a date, just a simple clean 3 hand movement that maintains dial symmetry and simply tells time well in a modest but high-quality build. And, I like the fact it's a bit of an underdog in the Rolex catalog which makes it a very different choice to the mainstream choices that are hyped up as you say.
    Really like the white dial, best color of all the dial colors. Can't tell in the video, but did the lume have a green or blue glow to it?
    I would like to get this watch because it's a modern version of my vintage 6426 Oyster Precision. But, because they are visually so similar, I have a hard time feeling a strong urge to get one at this time.
    If I were to get one, not sure if I want to get the 39mm or 36mm? My 6.875" wrist can handle a 39mm no problem, but maybe a slightly more understated size of 36mm might be the way to go.. Can't imagine any difference between them other than the size and proportions.

      I’d suggest getting the 39mm variant . I wear a DJ41 without any issues, and my wrist is the same size as yours! Looks fine, feels great, as the weight is more widely spread out (making it less top heavy, easier on the stride)
      I’m guessing by now you’d have one. Which one did you get? I’m too torn between the white and the black dial. I’m a black dial kinda guy but I want to put it on a strap and wear it with black, blue, brown, caramel straps !

    Unless you are a pilot, yachtsman, diver, or regularly involved in measuring time (to within a nat's cock!), the OP is by far the most comfortable and practicable Rolex you can own. As for size, don't follow trends, use common sense! If you are of a larger build then a 39mm is probably better than a 36mm. Personally I own a blue 3,6,9 dial 36mm. Very comfortable and very well proportioned which adds to the aesthetics.

    I have the same wrist size and I bought an OP 36 black dial with white 3,6,9 Indices back in 2008 from japan, hardly wore it as I bought it simply for 1 reason - scarcity. used to be a fan of professional models but as you said that kinda died down when they get so much hype these days. so it's been in the cupboard, untouched. until recent years been experiencing different straps options. I paired it with a black rubber straps and I begin to see the same way as you do.
    OP is such a perfect, high quality watch that dont scream out rolex, the fact that they are so well built, discrete, now with a rubber strap. it became one of favourite watches and getting way more wrist time than I would have expected. truly a great piece that is near perfection.

      @@joes9545 I don't own an OP 39. I own an explorer and a sub no date. I personally think both watches you've mentioned are very similar. I like the history, sport hands and Arabic numerals on the Explorer. Some would view these aspects as both minor or major differences in my opinion. Both would fly under radar very well, i'd think. I have never had anyone notice either watch. I think they could be confused with a Timex. However, the more sports oriented Exp. can be worn with a NATO strap and would add to the low key, sport look more easily. No lug holes makes getting bracelet off difficult. I keep the bracelet on the Exp. and a NATO strap on the Sub for this reason. The Sub is the heavier watch so it makes wearing it with a NATO more comfortable in my opinion. The OP maybe easier to source? Food for thought.

    £4500 is still not cheap and with no complications I feel this watch appeals to those who want the 'rolex brand' rather than the watch itself. Take the name off and who would pick this in a line up on design only? Not many as its simplicity struggles to differentiate from from a tissot at £450.
    I am a watch fanatic who prefers watches that have such unique designs and still excellent quality at affordable price tags.

    The dial is simplicity at its finest. But the case shape just sabotages the whole timepiece. Rolex needs to dump the maxi case. The bulky lugs ruin the balance of the watch. The lugs on the older 4 and 5 digit Rolexes looked so much more aesthetically appealing and sat on the wrist much nicer. They’re selling so many watches and the hype surrounding the brand is so high that I doubt they’ll do it anytime soon, if at all...

    • @DocBaps
      @DocBaps Před 5 lety

      IMHO, there is better balance and elegance with the OP. The cyclops on the DJ is less appealing to me. Also the oyster links plus cyclops is a dead give away for a rolex should you wish to have less brand recognition. Lastly, the OP has the advantage over the DJ if you own multiple watches, since the former only requires one to just set the time and go.

    A bit too sterile for me. I'm very happy with 114060 as a do it all simplistic Rolex. Very well executed though but it is very annoying that Rolex gave it the downgraded clasp. It's as if they are forcing the "entry level" status on it.
