You're an absolutely Natural TV presenter.... the beautiful tone to your voice reminds me very much of the tone of the great TV gardeners...of old..
I can honestly say I've never had my slow cooker run dry🤔 The condensation/steam drips down from lid whilst cooking & I've never had anything go dry or burn even if I've been late back. Thats the beauty of having a slow cooker, you can leave it on & not worry about things burning or sticking to the bottom or running dry. I've been using one for over 20 yrs & wouldn't be without one now. Nothing better than coming home & smelling that lovely food & having a nice hot meal ready for you.
Never had mine run dry in 20 years either.
@@susiespearing6165 which make would you recommend?
I always put a few folded tea towels on top to weight the lid down a bit and find I don't lose too much steam, so even less water reduction.
@@fullofhope2222 Ive had two Morphy Richards 5 ltr ones over the years and never had a problem with them.
@@susiespearing6165 I have got a Crockpot one of the original makes I think, bought because it looked a quality product in the store & has been.
I enjoy the bicycle ride videos, a perfect pace to see the beautiful countryside. And the day in the life stories...thanks Sean.
Bone and skin chicken on will give you the nicest, most rich chicken broth... will you save your veg peels in the freezer, collect a lot, and then derive a most delicious stock from them? Such flavor! You have a glorious sunny day! Enjoy every moment!
Totally agree with that. The best flavour
@@grumpy_pooah yes the colour of the stock when you boil the carcass and skin. I also like to do it with prawn shells and fish bones makes the most beautiful tasty stock
My grandmother used to be able to pick a chicken carcass totally clean and never wasted anything. Like you suggested, she made chicken stock from the bones with vegetable peelings and added lentils and barley to thicken it when she made a soup or casserole later. Bone broth either chicken or beef (made with grass fed beef if you can get them) is brilliant for your gut and overall health. Full of probiotics and good nutrition. Wonderful when you are ill with a cold or flu too 👌
Tip for cutting meat, use sharp scissors, so much easier.
Just make sure you put it in the fridge over night. The flavour will be even more delicious the next day. Enjoy.
This is one of my favorite vIdeos so far...I like your videos, because they are a day in the life videos. A slower day in a quiet town....and I feel better, like a get away, with your videos, escaping the latest news escapades. Your videos don't just show a perfectly manicured garden...with perfect veggys in a perfect row....You are like some of us, we have the dream garden vision, and are chasing the dream....but to get your hands in the earth, ahhhh the smell of dirt, and watch your seeds grow is the dream..Its nice to get ideas and see what you are planting. I would turn off the slow cooker let it get cooler (my ceramic insert pulls up out of the cooker and it cools faster that way).....then put a hot pad on your fridge shelf and set it in the fridge just to be safe. Warm food left out is not good. If the ceramic insert, doesnt pull out, I would pour the contents in smaller glass containers with snap on lids (your portion size,) and what was left over, can go in freezer, after its chilled ,labled/ dated for another day. Working ahead is like having a chief cooked meal in a snap.
A beautiful instant meal. Chicken soup for the soul...it's takin good care of yourself. Thanks again, Sean.
Chicken is tricky health wise. In future I’d recommend bringing it up to the boil and let it simmer for 15 minutes before turning it down onto a lower heat. And no, you shouldn’t leave the chicken in the slow cooker overnight. It needs to come out and go in the fridge. After that you can just heat up a portion in the microwave and simply freeze the rest.
Hello Sean. Food doesn’t get dry in the slow cooker . Liquid doesn’t evaporate. If you cook traditional recipes you need less liquid when cooking it in the slow cooker . You can even cook a whole chicken in’it without any water or butter or anything and it comes out delicious . One major rule though ...never take off the lid during cooki g or you’ll lose so much heat that it takes 30 min to be back to cooking temperature. I often cook sliced apples with a few halved dates and cinnamon , no liquid ,delicious healthy dessert. 3 hours on high ...
Such a lovely day for a bike ride Sean, thankyou for showing us the beautiful area that you call home. I'm with you in loving the quiet gentleness of a sunrise.
Have a good day! ☀️
If you let things cook overnight on low the flesh of anything falls apart and everything is so tasty. Good luck with it all. With fresh food too you can freeze some portions. If youre making stuff you may as well make loads xx
Morning Sean. A tip for you with onions .... leave the root on until you're finished chopping. No tears. Enjoy your day sweetheart 👍
I always start my slow cooker on high to get it going then after a few hours put it on low until I'm ready to eat
I’m with you on the early morning peace and quiet, i have a chair in my yard Sean, and when it’s not raining i sit and have a cup of tea, starts the day of lovely 😊
Hi Sean. Good work with your soup; I love soup! I cook it a lot, because we like roast chicken, so have bones to make stock. But if you're starting from scratch with raw chicken, may I recommend chicken thighs? You can get them entire, with the bones and skin, which I think gives the best flavour if you can face a bit of dismantling after your soup is cooked, but you can also just get the thigh meat skinless and boneless. I think it stands up to slow cooking better than breast meat, plus which it's quite a bit cheaper, bonus! As many others have said, I recommend getting a plastic chopping board just for meat. Then when you're done you stick it in the sink and pour a kettle of boiling water over it, sorted. And yes you absolutely can freeze chicken soup. I save those little plastic takeaway containers and put one or two servings into each, once the pot has cooled down a bit. Then they will fully cool more quickly and you can chill them down in the fridge before putting them into the freezer. Don't forget to label them! x
I use my crockpot all the time. Actually own 3 of them in different sizes.
Looks good Saun glad I suggested a slow cooker for you, I would have put some of the leeks in your veg rack as well also potatoes chopped
I put the slow cooker on a chopping board as it gets very hot on worktop Sean.
Sean love watching your videos and your daily escapades in beautiful Wales .I live on the South Island of New Zealand
I usually turn my slow cooker on before I go to bed. Then it's ready the next day.
Good morning/day/evening Sean from Texas (USA)!
There are a few vegetables that you can regrow; such as onions, green onions, leeks lettuce, watercress, ginger, turmeric, etc..
You can grow them on pots. This will help you grow them in limited space in your backyard!!
Oh, one more thing; if you cook with the bones in chicken or beef, you will have a much richer broth as more coligan; which”WE” all need after 30 < younger years! 😉
Love you videos!!!
If you are planning on making a stew/casserole in your slow cooker make your gravy very thick, as the steam makes the gravy thinner.
Also always put your slow cooker on high, whilst you are preparing your food and then when you put your bowl into the base it’s hot and then you just turn the heat down to low.
You seem to be growing right into the good life Sean. Thank you for sharing. From Oregon
no silence in munich germany at 4 a.m., all my male blackbirds, fed all year round by me with mealworms, are singing their heart out from the highest trees...
You can do jacket potatoes too. Wash, stab with a fork *ouch* 😂...rub with seasoned oil. Wrap in foil. On low from morning to evening (no water!)..perfect!
The streets and terraces are very depressing looking but the beautiful drama of the mountains more than make up for it 👌
Surely it is in the eye of the beholding. This is what a true community looks like.
The soup will keep nicely in the fridge for a few days or freeze some - don't forget to label though, something I am guilty of forgetting! Tip for chopping the chicken - I use scissors and chop it straight into the pot - saves messing the chopping board and it's quicker too.🙂
Nice to see you out cycling on a Sunday morning Sean. I do that when it’s dry. I have an electric bike. It doesn’t fold up. I wear a helmet for safety. Hope you enjoyed your soup.
You're right about living in California and constantly getting bored of the same weather. I lived there for years, and the hot sun day in and day out gets boring.
What part did you live in? Did you ever come North to enjoy cold San Francisco summer fog or ski Tahoe? Yosemite is beautiful covered in snow. California has all four seasons not just summer sun.
@@Shantelle6253 I love Northern California, thoght about moving to SF a couple of times but I always got scared of the crazy rent prices! Stunning place though!! I was in San Diago.
@@benjohnson3022 I had the same choice to make! San Diego or SF. I took the SF job and lived in th East Bay. But you're right the rent was insane
Yes, Cali sun every day was a bit samey but I loved the LA rainy days in January because no one used the roads and they stayed home. I had a friend with a log cabin at Big Bear and winter skiing was great and summer boating on the lake equally so. Could have settled there, felt like home.
Also went to stay with my other friend in Apple Valley, who lived on a ranch there. The train from back east ran at the bottom of the meadow and were the longest trains I've ever seen, so slow you could hop on. I left a piece of my heart there...Brad Pitt filmed Kalifornia with Juliet Lewis on the Kemper Campbell ranch. It was baking in summer but cool inside. Many thanksgivings spent there. Hated leaving to return to UCLA Westward, everything seemed so dirty after High Desert living.
South Wales is beautiful, home is where the heart is and I've left pieces of mine all over the place.
Thanks Sean, this was great, love the choice of music too. Stay safe on that bike, it looked fun. 👍 🌼
Wow, Sean, you are really moving on that bike!
Hi Sean. Another great video the soup looks lovely. Really enjoyed the views from your bike ride. Take care.
What a great day for a bike ride! Enjoy your soup, looked lovely xx
Morning Sean love the spring. I too get up at 4am just to get that lovely cool quiet before the heat of the day in summer.
Living alone magic.
I tend to buy an organic chicken .Roast bird for 2+ then strip cooked bird into container for refrigerator. Bones into pot for 2 hours + extract all nutrients broth amazing.
I live alone and but a whole chichen once a week and can get so many meals out of it x
The last of chicken meal stir fry vedge ,courgette, carrots, pepper, onion, garlic, cabbage (.With jelly stock I get 2 glass jars of stock to add to meals.)
That was the fastest bike ride I’ve had in years! I’m so glad you’re out of London and into a quieter, healthier life. I see you blooming when you’re back to nature and engaging in community. Blessings! Made myself a cup’o tea while watching.
Thanks for the video - great.
I use met office for weather forecast. It's not always right though!
A bit of food hygiene advice - don't cut raw meat on wooden board. Best to have a separate board for raw meat (not a wooden one).
Hi Sean
Hope your well I’m glad to see you using your slow cooker the chicken soup sound lovely and warming best of luck with the allottment sadie xx
The chicken soup 🍲 looks really tasty 😋 . Beautiful scenery there is nothing like getting out and walking . And mention the film Celia Johnson I have got the D V D and another two I like is House wife 49 with Victoria wood she was an amazing actress and writer and comedian. And also goodnight Mr Tom. Have a great day ☕
The pictures from the bike were very good. Don't be worried about the fitness it will come with time and you have been unwell. It is nice to have a realistic view of what local cycling is like rather than the super fit cycling influencer types. I hope you do things like that again.
It is very nice to see a little of Wales by your travels and also while on a bike. Well done
Loved watching this❤Thankyou Sean
Hi Sean. It is safer to cool the soup after it is cooked and then refrigerate. It was a lovely video thank you
Yes! You can freeze soup! If you are adding noodles, I wouldn't freeze it. I would suggest that you make the base without the noodles and then freeze. Thaw the soup and add the noodles to cook as it warms!
8 hrs difference here in the states, "up with the chickens" as they say and yes it is nice to be up before everyone else, love it! Chicken makes it's own broth so 1 bullion or not. Purchased an Instant Pot and cooks meals in 1 hr. Uses less electricity than the slow cooker, i cook roast or beans, cabbage, veggies less than an hour...wonder how i lived without it, great investment, loved the video, nice to watch in the wee hours when i get up too early like today, be blessed and enjoy your awesome soup👍
I felt like i was whizzing along on that bike with you!
Speaking from California, I can assure you we are not bored by sunshine! We've had two very wet, cold winters. Once I worked on a project which had people from all over, who were expecting a sunny spring. It rained for 27 days straight! 35:26
Wow, very enjoyable video. What a journey! It seems your confidence is back like the spring flowers. Congratulations Sean.
Hi Sean. A friend of mine is no longer the same person after coming off her bike and hitting her head. Always wear your helmet (she didn't) and for that matter gloves will stop the very unpleasant gravel rash that results from a fall. Keep safe. Uncle Kev ;-)
Really liked the cycling trip Sean. Hope you can do some more.
What a great day! That's the good thing about slow cookers..you can go do whatever you want and your meal is ready when you come home! I think you're right, it was a perfect day for a bike ride! Glorious sunshine! Looking forward to a hike back to the waterfall with a picnic lunch or getting your garden in shape. Thanks!
Sean I would add cayenne pepper and black pepper.. Why not a potato to thicken it up too ? You can aiways add another stock cube if needed when you taste it. Just a thought. I make lots of soup and just put in all veg I have , hot water and seasoning, simmer for about 45 mins, blend and hey presto super soup
Lovely to see Pen Pych again. Thank you Sean.
Morning Sean, slow cookers are great. A whole chicken gives great flavour for soup and the bonus of plenty meat for dinner and sandwiches. It looked delicious 😋 you need to let the rest of soup cool then put in fridge. Chicken is dodgy if left out.
I put a whole bottle of red wine in my slow cooker when I do beef stews etc ,it makes the meat taste beautiful
Washing your hands in cold water helps get rid of the onion smells quickly.
Good morning Sean, I had a good chuckle at 4:00am when I grabbed my phone and glanced at your header and read chicken cycling! I thought wow Sean is doing some new things with chicken haha! Enjoying your cooking while waking up with my morning coffee. I really need to get my slow cooker out and start using it again. I use AccuWeather it seems to do what your weather app does. I have a weather station in my garden that works well and gives me a really good idea of my microclimate. Love the drone footage. Wonderful ride and vlog❤
It made me laugh when you said the hill was too much for the bike .. not you xx Save the excess stock .. freeze and use next time x I leave it in the pot overnight out on low next morning .. lovely x Even better the next day x
I'm pleasantly surprised that there are still places in the UK that are not littered with rubbish. Good to see that there are neighborhoods looking after their very own environment.
I love the film Brief Encounter, anything else by David Lean is fantastic.
It gets me every time. So understated.
Hello Sean, great cycle ride, It must be quite a change to ride along the roads hardly any moving traffic, which ever corner you turned or Road you crossed over your road was clear, quite the opposite to previous place you lived. I used to have an allotment plot before moving and getting a much larger garden.Spaces available now are as rare as hens teeth. It's all for the good that's for sure. Hugs 🌞💐👏 thank you,
Sean you need black out blinds to keep the house warm in winter cool in summer.
I do the Met Office online Sean, as all other weather forecast come from them 😊
Love the video. If I was you, given your limited worktop space, I'd replace your slow cooker with an Intantpot pressure cooker. With a few accessories such as a glass lid - you would in my opinion have a much more versatile and economic kitchen cooking machine. You can slow cook, pressure cook, use as a saucepan etc etc.
I managed to do over 20 miles yesterday. 5 straight hours.
Get my weather on my iPad it does my location and it nearly always right.
Boootiful that looks so tasty good job just what you need 😊 x
Yes you can cook bread in a slow cooker. I cook it on a regular basis and very nice it is too
Interesting! I've never seen a recipe for that, I must look.
I suggest you check the instructions on your stock cube packet, it will tell you how to use them. I use Knorr stock cubes and one cube makes three-quarters of a pint of stock. I use lots of them as I make buckets of soup. You're doing great with the slow-cooker.
I’m in St Louis in the states and I use that same app for my weather! It’s awesome like you said practically right to the minute the rain or snow will be stopping or starting.
Please give that wooden chopping board a good rub with a Lemon to kill the bacteria 👍
Grate a potato or carrot or butternut squash if you want to thicken the soup as it cooks or towards the end. 👍🏻
Sean get a red plastic chopping board for when you are cutting raw meat.
Hi Sean I use my slow cooker a lot you can do all sorts of things in it, from cooking bread to cakes and a whole chicken..lol. I would use slightly less liquid and add a few small potatoes to thicken up or you could roll the chicken in some cornflour this will help thicken the liquid up as slow cookers make condensation . Someone showed me a bread recipe that was in the Manchester news , perhaps check that out..?
Loved the sunny bike ride out would love to ride a bike again unfortunately having had a nasty fall of a bike a few years ago not been on one since, but the idea of an assisted folding bike…it’s a thought lol.
Thank you for another beautiful video. Well done you for going on such a long and hilly bike ride. You must be pretty fit already. The soup looks wonderful but do put it in the fridge now , Sean. Never leave chicken ESPECIALLY overnight or even at room temperature once you've eaten what you want. Refrigerate immediately. All the best. Fondly, Dorothy.
I find that recipes for slow cookers usually have more than enough liquid
Slow cooker be best done overnight, 😊
The Weather Network mostly but I confirm it with Environment Canada. Particularly this time of the year because of horses out in the fields. Do I bring them in or leave them out? Do I close the stable doors (because of high winds) or leave them open for the horses to come in on their own? Do I turn the water heaters in the tanks on? Do I shut up the hens, ducks and turkeys or do I leave them to come and go on their own, every night? Always decisions to make this time of the year due to weather.
Hi Sean..I use the same app like you and I am in JHB..South Africa..too much sun here...although it's winter now..cold in morning and evening /night...during day t shirt weather till about 4.00 clock. Thank you for pleasant video.
.
I just put enough liquid in to cover the ingredients, it will be fine. It won't dry out. Good bike ride Sean, best thing you ever did, going back to Wales. You will be as fit as a flea in no time!
What a lovely day, and the soup looks wonderful! Thank you very much for sharing. :-)
Hi Sean, let it cool down and fridge it over night. Then high heat when you eat it again.😊
Beautiful video sean, love the music! and the bike ride, jealous! Views were lovely gives me the sense of adventure, everything looks good in the sunshine
Don't be jealous, be inspired.
being a bit of an outdoor photographer I use a couple of weather apps:
- Windy
- Clear Outside
I find them pretty accurate 🙂
Hi Sean, from New Zealand, enjoying your videos after long days in the Kitchen as a Chef. I love Foraging and Preserving, and following the Seasons. I’m a Pagan deep down 💚
I’ve just started growing more food now living costs and fuel prices rocketing. I just started following you on Instagram. Some advice on the slow cooker if you are worried about the liquid reducing and food drying out, then place a piece of baking paper on top before putting lid on, this catches steam which then drips back onto food. I always brown off any food going into slow cooker to get better flavour, I then add hot water to pan I browned food off in and stir well then add to food in slow cooker this effectively is Stock.
You are looking very well.We are catching up and love your Year in the Allottment series.Vivs shed falling in as soon as she puts her key in and poor Rusty sitting on the ruinsFunniest moment ever .Such wonderful people.
Radio 4 for news and weather, also have a look at the global wind map,it gives a pretty good idea of what weather we are going to get
It’s sunny in Colorado most of the time. I get depressed if it’s ever cloudy for more than three days in a row (rarely) except in summer when it’s just too HOT.
On my phone I use BBC weather, not an app- I just search for weather in wherever then click on BBC weather. I must admit I find it usually a good indicator.. On my desktop I use Ventusky which I find very accurate as it gives live wind, rain and temperature maps.p
I think you will need to decant the soup into a container then put it in the fridge. To re-heat put it in a pan on the stove. I think 're-heating in a slow cooker makes it go soggy and overcooked. I don't have one but I have been told this by someone who does. Hope you enjoy your soup.
I have a slow cooker that I have owned for a few years and it is still in the box. I do not know why I am so intimidated about trying to make something in a slow cooker. I know there are recipes all over CZcams that I could look up and I just might have to do that pretty soon.
Oh, do try it.! I don't bother with searing meat. I just put in stock, any meat and veg. Then when home from work I've a meal ready !
The chicken you are using will flavour the soup, water is fine. On high till boiling ,then low it will be ready tea time, or before.
Oh eh missus! Haven’t heard that for a long time. Living a slow life alone in Sussex.
At beginning of your video:
Tickles me that sound of rustling in the background out of sight, hunting for chicken in fridge whilst you chatting away to yourself. I Love it 😂
i do that too.
Well Done on your tasty Soup, yep it will freeze well.
Great your trip out, doing fitness on your bike👍
What's ocurring here? Well
i'm holding off starting seeds yet. Yep my android phone just has a weather app like yours.
Great bicycle trip ! Thankyou 😊 greetz from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
I looks over Swansea Bay from my back window! Never trust an app. My old fella has hundreds, he and the dog are constantly soaked
Lovely views on the bike.
Loving the video…nice to see the local sights…..only thing missing was the cats….cheers from Australia.
Oh wait until Saturday, you’ll have cats.
@@seanjamescameroncan’t wait….thanks for your message…cheers.
Loved this video Sean and especially enjoyed your bike ride. What wonderful scenery you have there. Good luck with the allotment. I can't wait to find out when you will be getting one and what you will be growing. Thank you for the beautiful video.
got try this in my slow cooker i not used it yet its a big slow cooker had it 2 years
Won’t go dry!! Put some bisto in made with some water, not to much. I’ve put a tin of veg soup in aswell. To much water and you will be watering down the flavour! Just make enough for a couple of meals. When I make a stew in my slow cooker, I keep going back for another portion, it’s that nice👍I would let what’s in your cooker cool down, then put in fridge for next day( that’s if there is any left for the next day!!😂😂😂) warm up in microwave or on top of cooker👍when I rode a bike for the first time in years, I couldn’t stand when I tried to get off😩my legs had turned to jelly and my bottom had gone numb!!😂😂😂🥰
I Love your wonderful daily posts to every day life Shaun....
You uplift me in my life!
Such a Lovely home you have. I can relate...
A Quiet life is what you have now....soul food for your soul ❤
